It was kind of a meta joke — like “look at this, this is what the algorithm rewards”. But in effect it dehumanized women musicians so this context isn’t exculpatory at all and I understand why they hated him

I never read HRO because I wasn't interested in it so I have absolutely no stakes in defending its tone or its coverage of Grimes, which I am 100% certain was shitty

When that entire “I think AI could make music” thing happened a half dozen musicians who work in that space tried to explain what she was saying didn’t quite make sense, offered to talk about it, etc. and then she drifted on to the next thing instead
