I don't hate softrock, as I love ELO, Supertramp and 10CC, for instance. But I hate that particular brand of slightly hard rock influenced softrock that Heart were part of.

man I saw them on that '78 tour, I was 11 years old and they were the fucking best - at the Forum in Inglewood they'd sell seats behind the stage for cheap and from the balcony (2nd cheapest) where I was seated I could see the people behind the stage go completely nuts when Nancy would walk behind the drum riser and give 'em 8 bars.

I love this band all the way through Dog & Butterfly & some of Bebe le Strange still - my love for them is all bundled up with becoming a music obsessive and realizing that I gave lots more of a shit about who played what and which album ruled over which other album etc than most of my friends did

I also saw them in '78, opening for ELO at the Pontiac Silverdome...(the show that saw ELO get sued by the promoter for "lip-syncing" the string arrangements)...the Nancy Wilson kick is still one of the best stage moves in rock, right up there with the Daltrey mike-throw, the Jagger chicken-strut and the Ian Anderson leg-lift...I remember going into a Tech HiFi to check out stereos back then, and the salesguy putting on "Barracuda" to demonstrate how good a particular turntable sounded...(and it did sound good)...he dropped the needle, sat back and said, "how about a little Heart?...Barracuda...barr-a-coooo-da"...
