I just heard Scott Walker's 'lights of cincinnati' and it reminded me of this song.

Perhaps you could also connect it to 'streets of Baltimore'.

I worked out that if Gene Pitney was 24 hours from Tulsa, he was most likely in the atlantic ocean.

yep i wondered why this tour was listed as his farewell one. very sad but super glad i got to see him a year ago, and will get to see him on this tour. also my wife got to work on promoting meet glen campbell so it's been a good glen related few years!

very, very sad. glen campbell does not get the props from musicophiles that he deserves. he has an extremely musical sense that made a lot of his albums much better than they had any right to be. even some of his odder, more idiosyncratic moves--like having a celtic tune on each of his albums for a while--actually work out pretty well. and he is a beautiful singer--if you need proof beyond the hits, get that reunion album w/ jimmy webb. he navigates some knotty lyrics and soaring melodies very powerfully.

anyone know where i could write this guy? not that it will mean much, but i do hold a ton of respect and admiration for him and would like an opportunity to express that.

That sucks. As to the O.P.'s question, it seems obvious he's starting in L.A., being a Jimmy Webb song and all.

:( i saw him last year at our local horrendously cheesy casino. i didn't have high expectations but i wanted to see him because <3 and i was very glad i did; his guitar playing was really great and he sang a lot better than i expected, and he had a good band and he talked with fine sensibility about music and he was generous and sincere in his praise of his peers. he was a little confused at times though so this news is not completely surprising. now i'm even gladder i took the opportunity and i hope he's at peace.

Glen was starting from Hollywood.

Want to reiterate that he is indeed still fantastic live - the show i saw was with an orchestra and he came out to Wichita Lineman - almost cried it was so good. And also people should definitely check out that Meet Glen Campbell album. Dude even made me like a U2 song.

He gets plenty of props! Musicophiles who don't respect are not worth anyone's time. My only beef is that many young people don't know about Glen Campbell, he's not being sold to them as a canonical artist. But he's a pop country and some people will never respect that.

My one friend in the "music biz" told me about this a couple years ago, so sadly it's probably progressed pretty far by now.

He is really talented. I believe he was one of the only if not the only guys in the Wrecking Crew/Shindig crowd who couldn't really read music, but the stuff he came up with was so good they didn't care.

Never though much about Glen Campbell until this last week...

Just finished watching the Wrecking Crew film a few days ago and previously had no idea how many classic records of the 60's he played on.. Then next day the story about his illness hit the news..

Today I bought a copy of Wichita Lineman LP for a euro, and i'm really enjoying it..
