I thought the first episode of Ziwe was pretty amazing. The Lebowitz interview had an "is this real or staged?" quality that was unlike any other examples of that sort of thing I could think of. Not all the sketches worked fully, but an impressive debut

Sketch comedy is pretty much always bad i have decided. Ziwe playing with fire, which is fun to watch, though I could do with a few less Office mugs to the camera. In general though, yeah, curious to see where this goes. I dig that Cole Escola looks to be a featured player/co-producer.

Haha I almost posted an identical take on sketch comedy in the, uh, Elon Musk thread the other day. One episode of I Think You Should Leave was one of the direst things I've ever watched; I couldn't even finish a single sketch from the Australian show people around here liked; etc. So yeah it was mostly about the two interviews for me, plus the Karen & Proud focus group, which had the same playing with un-reality vibe. Also I found it interesting as a ~pandemic show~, wonder if the quasi-homemade feel of some of it will continue or not

She was a writer on their show, plus I first heard about her show when D&M interviewed her the other day. I thought about using one of the all-purpose streaming threads, but figured it was a little premature to start broadly endorsing the show. ftr, it's not much like D&M but worth checking out!

i felt like this was coming for a while but ugggghhhhhhhhh it sucks

i mean...sometimes you can't get over person shit i get it, but it's been a real bummer to see the whole thing just evaporate. didn't seem like either one had really big plans in place when they killed the show, now Mero streams twitch (only 10K followers, just checked his last video had like 790 views), I know Desus subbed on Jimmy Kimmel but he mostly seems to be tweeting about the Knicks. I dunno, the whole thing should have gone much bigger than it did.

Yeah, feels like a swathe of missed opportunities. I wonder if COVID retrospectively was killing a momentum even with their home broadcasts (which were fantastic/sanity helping).

i saw that mero is hosting an F1 podcast for amazon w/ will arnett & idk... maybe it does well? i'm sure it pays ok. but it made me kinda sad. it feels like they don't really know how to mesh w/ the wider world of pop culture/entertainment when not doing their collective thing together

there seems to be some kinda hipster F1 thing happening so that could be more popular than I think but overall yeah it's not exactly mass culure

-Desus wanted to focus solely on linear (HBO, Showtime, etc) whereas Mero wanted to focus on both linear AND digital (bodega boys)
