There's no other recent-ish Robert Fripp thread that I can find but I gotta point folks to the Music For Quiet Moments series Fripp has been releasing weekly since the start of pandemic. There's over thirty of them now - the last few have been great sounds for the day.

Headline: Robert Fripp Crushed in Massive Box Set Collapse

As far as I can tell, though, this doesn't include the original mix of The League of Gentlemen LP? Is that going to be on the revised 33 CD version?

Halfway there but for you, Sunday, 13 March 2022 14:51 (two years ago) link

Goodness!

CD 5: Last of the Great New York Heartthrobs - Previously unreleased, the original album running order/featured vocalists/original lyrics in some instances (with the original proposed album title) as mastered in August 1978, taken from the master tape

Is this basically what would have come out had Daryl Hall's management not intervened? If so, I hope it gets its own standalone release for those of us who can't splurge.

Beyond that, discs 1-4 sounds like mana for anyone who wants to play around with those loops.

birdistheword, Sunday, 13 March 2022 18:05 (two years ago) link

correct, the original The League of Gentlemen LP is not included in this, for some reason. I read some explanation somewhere but it was weaksauce. There was plenty of room for it.

akm, Sunday, 13 March 2022 22:44 (two years ago) link

Maybe the League of Gentlemen LP is going to get its own 25 disc boxed set.

Josh in Chicago, Sunday, 13 March 2022 23:28 (two years ago) link

For whatever reason Dripp does t find those “indiscreet” tracks (which are assemblages off people talking) Important. They ARE funny.

akm, Monday, 14 March 2022 05:29 (two years ago) link

It wasn’t just Hall. I believe Debbie Harry was on Heartthrobs – perhaps doing I Feel Love? Fripp also supposedly shot the album cover at Radio City Music Hall of him with the Rockettes.

Notwithstanding the cost, I’m definitely franxious for this release.

I believe the new box set marks the first CD release of God Save the Queen / Under Heavy Manners. When I was in high school around 2004/05 and first getting into Fripp/Crimson, I went over to the house of a friend whose cool dad had a great record collection. He played us that record, which I had no idea existed, and the "Discotronics" side kind of blew my mind. More jerky new wave than disco and definitely proto-Discipline-era Crimson, complete with an extra-yelpy David Byrne on "Under Heavy Manners." So I'm rerally looking forward to the extended Discotronics sessions on this box...
