I was introducing you as it seemed to me you couldn't have encountered him before if you needed to ask a question like that.

"kinda prefer the og janet track
― zzz (deej)"
i like both, i keep the Janet 12" next to R&B Drunkie in the box. i have been playing the Janet much more often recently.
"why?
― dan138zig (Durrr Durrr Durrrrrr)"
i mean, that concept doesn't sound horribly ironic to you? it does to me. they pulled it off nicely tho, without sounding like a joke.
i didn't realise that they were behind that Cadillac joint. that's another one i don't care much for. there are so many better Hot Chocolate jams!

wish i'd actually bought 'a collage education' for excellent rework of 'love can't turn around'.
love 'back 2 back' and ruf dog 'dirty' 12"s (which i did get).

or maybe leo zero? would fit your more balearic tempo sets easily. they're all great!

haha. i thought i was in this thread when i posted that
itt: kinda out there, maybe kinda experimental, maybe kinda pretentious modern r&b

mark e just released tons of stuff. i dig the freakin shriekin 12", and the one on endless flight (codsall juniors?) is growing on me
all instruments of rapture stuff from this year is also v good, tho the revenge seems to be falling off a bit with most of his other releases and remixes
also the don froth 12" from early this year is still doing it for me tho. and don't forget about the linkwood album!!!
― psychgawsple, Sunday, 4 October 2009 20:19 (3 years ago) Permalink
Some of the MCDE Raw Cuts tracks are right up this street too
― plazzTT, Monday, 5 October 2009 00:42 (3 years ago) Permalink
The recent Mark E 12" on Merc has a side ("track 1") that sounds like a slowed down house-y edit of an R-Tyme track!

I know I always post Juno links, but really if you go to their best selling Deep House page it is like a primer on this stuff.

also just realized this came out earlier in the year- http://www.discogs.com/Ray-Mang-Mangled-Again/release/1806800. what i've heard is pretty stellar
― psychgawsple, Wednesday, 7 October 2009 02:08 (3 years ago) Permalink
so yeah, this is pretty much going to be the next big thing, i think, as the cosmic disco / balearic trend slowly dies down
so what's really good and new?
― moonship journey to baja, Wednesday, 28 October 2009 04:31 (3 years ago) Permalink
It's not super-new, but have you heard "Walk in Deepness" by Reggie Dokes? (on Prime Numbers) That is my jam. It's 120 BPM psychedelic jazz house, but sounds awesome pitched down.
The new Big Strick single on FXHE is very good as well. There are some techno tracks on it, but "A Walk Down Linwood" is definitely fitting for this thread. It came out on the FXHE comp earlier this year, but the new single has two versions. Beautiful keys.

Gotta agree with you tricky, that whole EP is pretty mindblowing. Its a shame we might lose him to making R'n'B.
I guess its not a shame for the autotune cru though, I'm kinda curious what his stuff might sound like.
Apparently he's a big Jam and Lewis head.
Back when I still had a weekly I played Jam and Lewis's Latin mix of Patti Austin Heat of Heat all the time. The semi-empty bar appreciated that, my friends begged me to play dubstep instead.
But that kind of late 80s modern soul slots in like a dream with this kind of thing.
Obviously with the Janet edit.
Anybody care for a FLAC of the track?

if this is the next big thing it needs a stupid made up name

hypnagogic disco
Who are you talking about "losing to R'n'B" Siah?
― matt2, Wednesday, 28 October 2009 15:15 (3 years ago) Permalink
Reggie Dokes.
The John Daly - Sea & Sky album is pretty good. Can't wait for the Juju and Jordash album but I anticipate that being a bit faster in the bpm range.

yo dawgs, this is deep house
― jaxon, Wednesday, 28 October 2009 15:35 (3 years ago) Permalink
Is there an interview or something somewhere where he mentions going RnB?
― matt2, Wednesday, 28 October 2009 16:02 (3 years ago) Permalink
speaking of 'yo dawgs, this is deep house', the Lerosa mix up on InfiniteStateMachine is pretty much Slow Motion House. image even says Dead Slow. It's not very well mixed but the tracks are excellent.
― brotherlovesdub, Wednesday, 28 October 2009 16:56 (3 years ago) Permalink
as good as some of this stuff is its a boring thing to be 'next' imo

A: Yes, I am currently producing R&B, Pop and Hip Hop in Atlanta. That was one of my reasons for coming to Atlanta, Georgia. I appreciate most genres of music, and it has always been a passion of mine to pursue and challenge myself creatively. Right now as far as R&B producers of the past, it would have to be Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, Baby Face and L.A. Reid and Teddy Riley. In the present it would have to be Tricky Stewart and The Dream, Danja Handz, Timbaland and the Neptunes.

Thanks for that Siah. I had actually seen that interview, intended to read it, and never did.
