Any mix that goes from Deerhoof to Adam Beyer to Praga Khan in the space of five songs is something that I need to hear.

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Monday, 6 June 2005 14:55 (eighteen years ago) link

It does too!

I don't think Congo Natty is Rebel MC. I'd love it if it was.

what software are people using to make these "dj mixes"?

Acid Pro.

Are you using the new Sony Acid Pro 5? I've got the demo but it's gonna run out at the end of the month (unless I be naughty and manage to get it cracked...)

meanwhile, yes Congo Natty and Rebel MC are one and the same.

How convenient that this thread was revived just as I'm launching my blog.

I like that dub kult record a lot. will be checking this mix when I get home.

tylero (tylero), Thursday, 7 July 2005 22:36 (eighteen years ago) link

I have a new one up as well, strangely it features the same Dub Kult record. What a weird tune, all those oddly timed loops tripping over each other.

This is the first mix I've done all digitally using MP3s and a computer (Ableton Live 5 beta!) so I'm not 100% happy with how it turned out, but here you are anyway.

i love that guido schneider dub kult remix, too. i have been playing the hell out of it. i found out recently that it's also in m.a.n.d.y's body language mix (which is unbelievably good and which i have also been playing the hell out of)...i think that it is strange how popular the dub kult remix is because as jeffrey said, it's, well, a strange tune. i like when a tune like that crosses over into the popular consciousness (popular being relative here i guess). it messes with people's heads.

all of the mixes just posted here look excellent...i need to do a new one and post it, but i have been traveling. i love that villalobos auch remix. also those reynold twelve inches on morris were really good from what i remember.

I threw this together in MixMeister over the course of this week for a party I'm about to hit up. There's probably nothing on here new to y'all (considering that I get most of my new music either from Fluxblog or the YSI thread), but I figured some of y'all might just want something to listen to so what the fuck.

The thing with doing mixes in Ableton...you go back a week later and realize, hmmm, you really did like the first track that you cut out last time you worked on the session. And you *can* just output a revised mix, so why not?

So...my tracklisting now starts with Pantha Du Prince: Suzan and proceeds from there. The file is updated, the link is the same.

Jena, I've been rocking New Identities all week. Brilliant stuff! I'm unfamiliar with Bruchstuecke but *really* like both of the tracks you included from that label. Here's hoping the label will find it's way into the Kompakt-MP3 store soon.

jeffery (jeffery), Sunday, 10 July 2005 17:13 (eighteen years ago) link

Yeah I started looking into Bruchstuecke when I heard that Galoppierende Zuversicht took Mutek by storm this year, and found brilliant records along the way. Great track selection and the mixing is phenomenal, I burned a copy and have one for the computer and one for the car now. Downloading the new version right now. Did you use the Ableton 5 beta for that?

Jena (JenaP), Sunday, 10 July 2005 20:27 (eighteen years ago) link

Did you use the Ableton 5 beta for that?

Yes, the revised version is almost the same mix, I just opened up the original Live session, unmuted the intro track, made a few adjustments to the compressor/limiter on the master channel and re-exported. The other mixes linked off of my site are done using turntables only though.

The tempo-matching aspect of mixing in Live is a no brainer, which is fun because it gives you more freedom to just focus on layering things, editing the tracks as needed and working with the effects.

I'm going to try to pull off my first laptop-based DJ set next month; hopefully I won't have to dodge any beer bottles.

I'm addicted to making mixes lately. Here is a mix of Schaffel that I did. It's mostly stuff that's been around for a while:

Shuffle, Don't Walk

01) Tortoise - The Equator
02) ???
03) Ferenc - Neng
04) Nominal - Untitled
05) Michael Mayer - Pride is weaker than Love
06) Ferenc - Punto Pilota
07) Ferenc - Bul
08) Akufen - My Way
09) Michael Mayer - Amabile
10) The Emperor Machine - Expanding in Reproduction
11) Markus Guenter - 1981

vex'd did a great little 30 minute or so mix in the breezeblock last monday: http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio1/dance/breezeblock/tracklistings.shtml?dp_rhn_block_link1
available on 'listen again' until tonight...

and on a completely different 'tip' (as i believe the young people are saying these days), found some great minimal electronica mixes by a bloke called Banyek here:
