I thought Americans would know him for taking the piss out of Michael Jackson (not the dead beer writer) at the Brits.

onimo, Wednesday, 5 September 2007 19:48 (sixteen years ago) link

At the what? (j/k I know what the Brits are. Although I'm really not a good barometer for that.)

Ms Misery, Wednesday, 5 September 2007 19:51 (sixteen years ago) link

The Mary Chain actually made me nearly cry during Some Candy Talking by being so blindingly good.

It is at this point I say, on behalf of of myself and I believe onimo, OH JUST FUK OFF. (Only kidding IR just jelus)

aldo, Wednesday, 5 September 2007 20:17 (sixteen years ago) link

2nded (only kidding but no really FUK OFF, jokes jokes, no really).

JAMC are playing some US shows in October. Hopefully some UK dates will follow if William cba dragging his arse across the pond again. There's talk of a new studio album plus the Rhino b-sides, demos & rarities thing is due in February or thereabouts.

Oh, morning all :) Back on the early starts after a couple of lazy days. I even managed to make time for breakfast before leaving. I expect to crash around 11am when this stupid hueg latte wears off.

Listened to Siouxsie on the way in today. I fucking LOVE Siouxsie.

onimo, Thursday, 6 September 2007 06:43 (sixteen years ago) link

I don't think most Americans know who Pulp is much less Jarvis Cocker.

I wuv him. Sigh.

I am really only kidding about my friends being ungrateful bastards. I will have to email them soon to find out whether the actually got the card or not, though.

My god, I don't give a damn about Luciano Pavarotti dying. NOT ONE DAMN!

accentmonkey, Thursday, 6 September 2007 07:00 (sixteen years ago) link

Today's Metro had a "close to death" story with something like "football fans would know him from doing Nessun Dorma, the theme for the Italia '90 World Cup" - like no football fan would have heard of him otherwise.

onimo, Thursday, 6 September 2007 07:16 (sixteen years ago) link

Jarvis

Not having heard his album I found him great fun. He finished with "The boys are back on town" which was ludicrously good!

Rilo Kiley (OK)

OTM. Nice hot pant suit thing though.

Managed to miss Bjork totally (no great loss)

Sadly OTM from what I caught.

the Beastie Boys (even less of a loss)

U MAD + RONG!!!

I wish we could do our entire bathroom in them but they are a bit pricey.

Long term project? Plans are a bit similar with wherever I end up except I would like lights recessed into the actual base and side walls. Sounds mad but actually works out quite well. My love of the whole art deco thing has already been done to death on these threads. Needless to say I am hoping to buy a his and hers walnut set of cupboards with a dressing table/vanity thing shaped rather like a penis (elongated elliptical mirror, two round pillars for tables).

*BANG*

Aldo? Aldo? Oh shit. We didn't see nothin' people, keep movin', angry beastie fan packing heat and glass tiles of polyphonic destruction...

I believe they have played several times since, bless their plaid trousers.

RONG. EP was first time in years and years and years. Possibly 13.

Humansuit isn't a troll, I believe that he is the small cat.

Luciano Pavarotti dying

Really? That's a bit sad :(

Hello all.

Aldo, you can now post to the "Have You Ever Been Shot?" thread full of misplaced pride.

glass tiles of polyphonic destruction...

This sounds like a good name for something. .

I like the small cat(s).

Ms Misery, Thursday, 6 September 2007 13:50 (sixteen years ago) link

What the heck is that picture kv_lol? Confused nao!

I bought an 07/08 diary today and have been happily writing in SOCIAL ENGAGEMENTS. So, tell me your birthdays and your social events I can guarantee that in my usual 2 months time I will have forgotten I ever bought the diary, never mind remember what I put in it.

Sarah, Thursday, 6 September 2007 13:54 (sixteen years ago) link

I dunno. Saw it on another thread and I though that it fit!

Social engagements already? I am intimidated by your organisational abilities!

kv_nol, Thursday, 6 September 2007 13:58 (sixteen years ago) link

I'm having a party on the 22nd if you'd like to pencil that in. I'll send you directions if you need them.

Ms Misery, Thursday, 6 September 2007 13:59 (sixteen years ago) link

I've taken to writing NOM NOM NOM on my deskpad instead of drawing eyes. I'm sure this is endearing me to the woman who thinks I'm into Christian Child Slave Steroid Suicide Cults.

onimo, Thursday, 6 September 2007 14:02 (sixteen years ago) link

The 22nd is so far free! But I may wish that to remain free, as the weekends before that are all full. But this will depend on what I am doing during the week, which is currently unplanned! Send me the directions anyway. I might swing by. Where's the nearest offy?

Sarah, Thursday, 6 September 2007 14:03 (sixteen years ago) link

offy

off-license??

Be forewarned it's the much anticipated Harry Potter party that was previously canceled at the last minute due to one participant's extreme illness. If you are not down with HPP, you might want to skip. (although I'm definitely making a treacle tart this time and there will be lots of bouze.)

Ms Misery, Thursday, 6 September 2007 14:05 (sixteen years ago) link

Yes, substitute Food & Wine store, liquor joint or whatever! Anywhere I can get a Watneys Party Seven. I will be there if there is treacle tart! In fact this is reminding me I never had treacle tart after we talked about it somewhere upthread *waves hand*

This was stupid of me and I want treacle tart.

Sarah, Thursday, 6 September 2007 14:14 (sixteen years ago) link

I will send you some in the mail.

There's a liquor store near my house. It's a pretty scary place. The ancient man behind the counter was very rude and refused to give a box instead of a bag. I spent $50 the other patrons were only buying Steel Reserve tall boys! he should've been kissing my ass

Ms Misery, Thursday, 6 September 2007 14:18 (sixteen years ago) link

I cannot imagine Jarvis doing Into The Valley or The Boys Are Back In Town. I would like to though. Maybe youtube will deliver...

A treacle tart with black treacle and pastry bat-shapes on top would be the best thing ever, I reckon. Maybe such overt witchery theming is passé for Potter parties though.

(Yeah, I just rudely wandered into your thread just like that. Hope nobody minds but I'll probably forget to look back anyway since these jumbo threads move so fast. Hi.)

a passing spacecadet, Thursday, 6 September 2007 14:19 (sixteen years ago) link

Hi, introduce yourself, I'm not good with keeping up ILx pseudonyms.

I briefly looked for HP cookie cutters to make lightening bolts, snitches and the like. We are a bunch of silly grown women meeting to gush over a children's book. And drink. Nothing's passe.

Ms Misery, Thursday, 6 September 2007 14:21 (sixteen years ago) link

a passing spacecadet lives up to his name!

kv_nol, Thursday, 6 September 2007 14:32 (sixteen years ago) link

*Her* name, surely (if you are indeed ms lo-fi space :))

I have fab dinosaur cookie cutters - but my last attempt at biscuits in our somewhat bonkers oven were a disaster so I haven't used them since. I will try and rectify this soon. DINOSAUR COOKIES man.

Am pretty sure you could say they are DRAGONS ie hungarian firey nose dragon or whatever they were called in that competition where Harry flew about a bit and stole 1x golden eggy.

Sarah, Thursday, 6 September 2007 14:40 (sixteen years ago) link

Humansuit isn't a troll, I believe that he is the small cat.

Why thank you!

humansuit, Thursday, 6 September 2007 14:41 (sixteen years ago) link

I still have no idea what a troll is, but I know a thing or two about little felines.

GOLDEN SYRUP OF FIGS EGG

Someone stop me

Sarah, Thursday, 6 September 2007 14:45 (sixteen years ago) link

hungarian firey nose dragon

I believe it was a Norwegian (Ridgeback?) Horntail. I could look this up to confirm but I shall avoid the geekery and possibly accept a dressing-down from a more obsessive HP fan.

Ms Misery, Thursday, 6 September 2007 14:49 (sixteen years ago) link

Ms M, I am currently posting pictures of fighter planes so shouldn't be throwing stones from my glass house but GEEEK!

Hey, that's me! Hi Sarah, haven't seen you ILXing for a while but maybe I am just on the wrong threads.

Uh, yeah, hi, I'm Rebecca, and in a dazzling fit of imagination I used to post mostly as Rebecca. As you might expect from that, there isn't really much else to say about myself. UK corny indie semi-lurking nerd crew.

a passing spacecadet, Thursday, 6 September 2007 15:31 (sixteen years ago) link

Welcome to non-location specific heaven!

kv_nol, Thursday, 6 September 2007 15:35 (sixteen years ago) link

Nah I'm not on ILx much - I sometimes post here but not so much generally. Although I did revive something on ILm today about Finnish boybands (the answer is there aren't any who aren't sub-Evanescence pouting boys - but they are not pouting RIGHT! I will still look more into the pop of Finland though. It can't hide from me forever)!

DIANNE WIEST JUST CALLED ME

Surmounter, Thursday, 6 September 2007 18:19 (sixteen years ago) link

Who is she?

I just got back from first weekly bowling session. Blew except for a couple of strikes. Also picked up a flyer for a math tutor on the walk back. Should probably shoot him an email.

Ms Misery, Thursday, 6 September 2007 18:39 (sixteen years ago) link

Could you stop shooting people for one night?

:( Sorry. Cowboy-ing up a little too much over here.

I've seen ES many years ago. Was she calling to ask you out? Sell you some skincare products? More details.

DIANNE WIEST JUST CALLED ME

accentmonkey, Thursday, 6 September 2007 19:09 (sixteen years ago) link

oh my god. i was like, well this is a Patron office, are you a Patron? cuz she sounded kinda like hesitant. and she was like Yes, my name is Dianne Wiest.

Surmounter, Thursday, 6 September 2007 20:06 (sixteen years ago) link

How cool!

accentmonkey, Thursday, 6 September 2007 20:08 (sixteen years ago) link

omg and of course she had like the SAME EXACT VOICE she has in the movies, that really sweet soft thing. i really barely knew what to do with myself.

i gave her an aisle seat.

right??!!

Surmounter, Thursday, 6 September 2007 20:08 (sixteen years ago) link

So, where do you work that you have people like this calling you? And can you get me tickets to good Shakespeare shows? Love a bit of well-acted Bardery, me.

You know what else I like? That Brothers and Sisters programme. I never cared much about him before, but I would shag all this Rob Lowes.

accentmonkey, Thursday, 6 September 2007 20:10 (sixteen years ago) link

Brooklyn Academy of Music in Brooklyn, NY - one time, HOlly Hunter rang me up. My direct line! she's another one of those ppl who you just KNOW the voice. her assistant touched base me with soonafter saying "yeah sometimes she just does that - we don't know who she calls."

ya i can get u tickets! if u live in nyc that is :-)
