Eddie Harris' "The Reason Why I'm Talking Shit" reminds me of the Bernie Sanders "Once again I am asking for ..." meme.

I feel like there should be an equivalent for this thread for horrible rap album titles from 88-98.

i think blues/blues-rock was a little late to the game in this regard, this A.C. Reed album is from 1987

Swamp Dogg has an Eddie Harris-like knack for these kinds of titles.

One of those belongs on Albums covers that depict the artists hanging out with their clones and I don't seem to see it there yet.

I don't know his later albums but his 70s albums are great.

They are; his productions on others are just as good IMO, but don't tend to have such thread-worthy titles.

Tim, Saturday, 14 March 2020 23:35 (four years ago) link

He did one a couple of years ago that was full of autotune and still pretty great

Pinche Cumbion Bien Loco (stevie), Saturday, 14 March 2020 23:41 (four years ago) link

I haven't heard that one but the cover art is awesome. kinda curious about the slew of mostly self-released '80s-'00s Swamp Dogg albums that virtually nobody has heard. I kept seeing the same used copy of Surfin' in Harlem at my local record store for about 5 years but never had a strong enough impulse to buy it

Give 'Em As Little As You Can As Often As You Have To

is p perfect, definitely has the going through the motions vibe that these titles have

Blues Guitar Solo Heatmap (Free Download) (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Sunday, 15 March 2020 12:41 (four years ago) link

i haven't heard the vast majority of swamp dogg's work but for whatever reason "love, loss, and auto-tune" did cross my radar, possibly due to someone saying "no look this is fantastic", and whoever said that is right! he's got a duet with his auto-tuned self, he closes with an auto-tuned take on "stardust", he just has this knack for bringing out the best in anything he works with

swamp dogg should have a bigger cult than he does, the man is a national treasure. does he even have a dedicated thread here?

Kate (rushomancy), Sunday, 15 March 2020 13:06 (four years ago) link

I interviewed him for Love, Loss & Autotune, he was such great company. He's good frends with Bon Iver now, afaicr.
