Sara R-C, Sunday, 5 October 2008 05:39 (fifteen years ago) link

I've had a really nice last two days; so so SO fantastic to have three consecutive days off from school. I don't want to go to bed now, though, because I don't want to admit that I can't avoid Sunday.

resigning lease... again... makes me decide i MUST do something to make this apartment more presentable since it's the place i've lived the longest in about 10 years...

highly theoretical, of course. (tehresa), Sunday, 5 October 2008 16:53 (fifteen years ago) link

Ha, I've been spending the last few weeks paring down my book collection. (Working for a top level university library + inter-library loan = I don't really buy books any more; meanwhile, having a slew of books around that I mostly don't touch at all makes no sense.)

Ned Raggett, Sunday, 5 October 2008 16:58 (fifteen years ago) link

Envying all this bookcase/book paring nonsense. I have to keep buying textbooks that I don't even want to read. Damn all your eyes!

Sara R-C, Sunday, 5 October 2008 22:58 (fifteen years ago) link

OMG I hate owning books. I ditch em as soon as ive read em

Bright Future (sunny successor), Sunday, 5 October 2008 23:07 (fifteen years ago) link

i miss my books. they are all at my parents' house waiting for the day i have enough space to hold them. like that's ever gonna happen! hah!

My mother suggested that I try reading my assigned text reading when I was having trouble sleeping. I had to explain that if I fell asleep with my med surg book on top of me, I'd likely suffocate. What an embarrassing thing for her to have to explain at my funeral!

Sara R-C, Monday, 6 October 2008 01:35 (fifteen years ago) link

Also, I kind of like owning books in general and I have a terrible time parting with them, but at the same time I know that my collection is entirely out of hand and that I should not be allowed near a bookstore again, ever.

Sara R-C, Monday, 6 October 2008 01:36 (fifteen years ago) link

sara are you sure that 10min debate clip you were talking about was not just the snl spoof?

highly theoretical, of course. (tehresa), Monday, 6 October 2008 02:36 (fifteen years ago) link

i can see how it would be hard to differentiate.

highly theoretical, of course. (tehresa), Monday, 6 October 2008 02:36 (fifteen years ago) link

Yes; I found the sketch hilarious, but the 10 minute highlight reel to be somewhat nauseating.

Sara R-C, Monday, 6 October 2008 04:58 (fifteen years ago) link

I would go look for it for you, but I have to go back to (guess what) studying. I apologize for my uselessness.

That being said, there isn't much to be gained by watching the actual debate unless you're suddenly thinking Palin sounds like a great candidate.

Sara R-C, Monday, 6 October 2008 04:59 (fifteen years ago) link

i watched most of it earlier. it was so painful.

highly theoretical, of course. (tehresa), Monday, 6 October 2008 05:07 (fifteen years ago) link

I was driving while I listened to the last half hour of it. I realized I was accelerating a LOT during her answer about the role of the vice presidency... and slowed down. Good thing I didn't have far to go!

Me too. I don't think you can ever own too many books.

I like owning books as a physical reading record but I think I prefer sharing them. A book is one of those things that I can give away to someone with confidence that I'm never going to really want it back.

ShNick (Upt0eleven), Monday, 6 October 2008 13:24 (fifteen years ago) link

in the last 3 months, i have bought almost as many books as i had to get rid of before moving here - a number that i had accumulated over 10 yrs. between the two of us, jordan and i probably buy about 5 books a week, on average (but he also has a little side business of book-selling).

Bright Future (sunny successor), Monday, 6 October 2008 15:34 (fifteen years ago) link

yeah afterwards jordan said that if the dude had mentioned 'sarah palin' anywhere in his rant he probably would have taken him seriously.

OTM. And if I love a book so much I can probably deal with spending £6.99 to buy another copy. Which I'll then lend to someone else, probably.

Maybe we could keep her around for lolz somehow without her being in politics. Those Katie Couric interviews would be comedy gold if Palin wasn't actually a candidate for high office.
