THE HORROR

dan m, Wednesday, 5 December 2007 21:44 (sixteen years ago) link

I know.

jaymc, Wednesday, 5 December 2007 21:56 (sixteen years ago) link

I'm just bitching because now that the el stop is literally right around the corner from my apartment, it makes me want to drive less.

jaymc, Wednesday, 5 December 2007 21:58 (sixteen years ago) link

I hear ya there, except as of late I have been too lazy in the morning to get up in time.

dan m, Wednesday, 5 December 2007 21:59 (sixteen years ago) link

hi chicago; how are you guys doing?

horseshoe, Wednesday, 5 December 2007 22:01 (sixteen years ago) link

I am pretty alright, but hating PostScript at the moment.

dan m, Wednesday, 5 December 2007 22:05 (sixteen years ago) link

I am pretty alright, but hating PostScript at the moment.

I want to live where John lives.

Jesse, Wednesday, 5 December 2007 22:12 (sixteen years ago) link

i found a secret stash of graham crackers on top of the fridge in the break room

Jordan, Wednesday, 5 December 2007 22:16 (sixteen years ago) link

If you lived where I live, you'd be drunk on crab legs every week.

jaymc, Wednesday, 5 December 2007 22:23 (sixteen years ago) link

OMG you guys, i'm british!

colette, Wednesday, 5 December 2007 22:26 (sixteen years ago) link

BEGONE

dan m, Wednesday, 5 December 2007 22:27 (sixteen years ago) link

jaymc-- i know liz through the wedding website that she and sarah and i were all on. we met last xmas to have a champagne and cupcake tasting at my hotel.

jesse-- you could go to volo, especially on a monday (half price wine bottles), it's dim and cozy and not stupidly expensive.

colette, Wednesday, 5 December 2007 22:27 (sixteen years ago) link

A-ha! We went to high school together. Now I'm really bummed I can't make the party -- I haven't seen her in about a year and a half.

jaymc, Wednesday, 5 December 2007 22:59 (sixteen years ago) link

I had one of the best lunches of my life yesterday at a place that fits Jesse's description (actually, Napa and Sonoma Counties are full of places that fit Jesse's description). It's called Market and it's fancy at dinnertime but they have a lunch deal of soup/sandwich/treat that was so so so so delicious.

I think expensive restaurants with high-value relatively inexpensive lunches are the best thing, besides a good heart and empathy and stuff like that.

Eazy, Wednesday, 5 December 2007 23:30 (sixteen years ago) link

I made an awes sandwich for dinner the other night: Tofurkey, havarti, tomato, arugula, avocado, and hummus on wheat toast. Delicious.

jaymc, Wednesday, 5 December 2007 23:34 (sixteen years ago) link

(oh, and J, I did win that Scrabulous game -- I was thinking that I would be about 5 points short.)

Eazy, Wednesday, 5 December 2007 23:36 (sixteen years ago) link

So what would've happened if I'd played WET and you played GEL and we ended up tied at 345? Would I have been able to keep playing tiles?

jaymc, Wednesday, 5 December 2007 23:40 (sixteen years ago) link

The game ends goes on until either of us runs out of tiles, and whoever has tiles left has the remaining points subtracted from his score.

Eazy, Wednesday, 5 December 2007 23:43 (sixteen years ago) link

(cut 'ends')

Eazy, Wednesday, 5 December 2007 23:43 (sixteen years ago) link

Hmmm OK. At least I got a bingo, finally.

I think I'll stick to constructing crosswords, though, for linguistic kicks. A couple times in the games I've been playing in the last week (you, Kelsey, and Kenan) I've had the tiles to make hyphenated words like IN-LAWS or fun proper nouns, and of course neither of those are legal, but bullshit like AE is. Kind of dumb.

jaymc, Wednesday, 5 December 2007 23:49 (sixteen years ago) link

do you get the big fake turkey tofurkey, or is there like lunchmeat version as well? i've only had it once and would like to try it again.

colette, Thursday, 6 December 2007 01:31 (sixteen years ago) link

the tofurkey deli slices are pretty good, better than the smartlife (?) ones. i bet that's what he's talking about

n/a, Thursday, 6 December 2007 02:25 (sixteen years ago) link

So I just had to make a short run to the store in what my computer tells me is ten degrees -- sorry, once more with proper emphasis, ten degrees -- and I promised I would have a new expletive when I got back. I came up with: "Colder than a dead man with his dick cut off." I do not know if this will catch on. For one thing, it doesn't make much sense. And yet, in an abstract way, it is powerfully evocative, and appropriately foul.

Jesus, it's cold.

kenan, Thursday, 6 December 2007 05:14 (sixteen years ago) link

colder than a witch's tit

I just caught a ride home from the bar that is 4 blocks from my house.

It's not really that cold though, the ride was just convenient (thx April).

dan m, Thursday, 6 December 2007 05:22 (sixteen years ago) link

I think Dan just called me a pussy. I think I shall be offended!

kenan, Thursday, 6 December 2007 05:29 (sixteen years ago) link

Kenan, if I was going to call you a pussy I would have said, "Kenan, you pussy".

I really just wanted to use the witch's tit line.

dan m, Thursday, 6 December 2007 05:34 (sixteen years ago) link

Surely a dead, dickless man is colder.

Especially if it's ten degrees outside.

kenan, Thursday, 6 December 2007 05:36 (sixteen years ago) link

Colder than a breast that's been suckled by Satan himself?

dan m, Thursday, 6 December 2007 05:37 (sixteen years ago) link

I think Satan is hott. And real.

kenan, Thursday, 6 December 2007 05:45 (sixteen years ago) link

I'm at Courtney's house. I don't want to go outside. The forecast calls for tits.

Jesse, Thursday, 6 December 2007 12:23 (sixteen years ago) link

Sheeeeit. Tits was yesterday. This is way more... sloppy. Stay inside if you can.

kenan, Thursday, 6 December 2007 12:31 (sixteen years ago) link

morning, chicago! I am waking up with Paul Simon. :)

kenan, Thursday, 6 December 2007 12:32 (sixteen years ago) link

The problem is all inside your head, she said to me...

kenan, Thursday, 6 December 2007 12:34 (sixteen years ago) link

Oh man, you know what I'd love to hear right now? The old awful Kool Moe Dee track that heavily samples "50 Ways to Leave etc." and has a rap that is... ahem... inimitable. "I got 50 ways... ta getcha!"

I will settle for Big Daddy Kane. Actually, Kane is quite fine. Not at all awful. (But still kind of hilarious.)

kenan, Thursday, 6 December 2007 12:40 (sixteen years ago) link

haha totally

La Lechera, Thursday, 6 December 2007 12:46 (sixteen years ago) link

like, it's in the mid... ones? How do you round that off? Kinda like there's no snappy shorthand for this decade.

kenan, Thursday, 6 December 2007 12:57 (sixteen years ago) link

La Lechera, Thursday, 6 December 2007 13:06 (sixteen years ago) link

about three or four hours after the first episode of season fifve airs, I'm gonna be one torrent downloading mofo.

kenan, Thursday, 6 December 2007 13:17 (sixteen years ago) link

Sloppy? No. At 6 degrees, there is no slop.

Jesse, Thursday, 6 December 2007 13:20 (sixteen years ago) link

In the Kelvin scale, 6 degrees is the temp at which all slop becomes still.

Jesse, Thursday, 6 December 2007 14:36 (sixteen years ago) link

I am waking up with Paul Simon.

edie brickell pages through the phone book under "divorce lawyers"...
