I KNOW WHAT YOU'RE UP TO (Colonel Poo), Friday, 3 October 2008 18:27 (5 years ago) Permalink

"audio quality is terrible - really the only fun thing about it is watching the inmates get into it"

this, and how band members are perfectly at ease, i.e. brian gregory grinning happily all the time.

Marco Damiani, Friday, 3 October 2008 18:28 (5 years ago) Permalink

it's all on Youtube & video.google.com & stuff.

Saw them a couple of years ago and they're now embarrassingly old. Imagine your granddad in a bikini: that's Lux on stage now.

StanM, Friday, 3 October 2008 18:29 (5 years ago) Permalink

how dare people age, who do they think they are.

cramps were always grotesque

Shakey Mo Collier, Friday, 3 October 2008 18:33 (5 years ago) Permalink

lolz early 80s video quality

more like late 70s! it's smeary b&w but totally worth seeing at least once. also very easy to find.

lux is very old... 62 now?

Edward III, Friday, 3 October 2008 18:34 (5 years ago) Permalink

the napa footage on youtube looks like somebody filmed their TV while watching the video

Edward III, Friday, 3 October 2008 18:36 (5 years ago) Permalink

friend of mine says last time they toured Sweden, grown men were weeping with horror

3 years pass...

What in the fuck?

Human Fly by The Cramps, revisited by a classical group. 12 violins, 1 solo violin, 4 Cellos, 1 piano and 1 soprano.

Johnny Fever, Friday, 18 November 2011 17:16 (2 years ago) Permalink

Wow. Will have to check that out later.

Oh yeah, the RIP thread was a different one

tell me things about The Cramps (RIP Lux Interior)

curmudgeon, Friday, 18 November 2011 17:30 (2 years ago) Permalink

*wonders what's going on with Poison Ivy* :-(

She ruled at least as much as Lux did, IMHO.

downloaded a crappy rip of the Purple Knif Show and this is still the best shit ever

Kiarostami bag (milo z), Sunday, 6 May 2012 18:40 (1 year ago) Permalink

OTM. (There's no better rip btw, I've only ever found shitty sounding copies - that's almost part of its charm)

Hanni El Khatib is fuckin horrible btw

puff puff post (uh oh I'm having a fantasy), Sunday, 6 May 2012 20:29 (1 year ago) Permalink

they should just have used the original. no doubt some ad exec felt it needed to sound "modern".

stirmonster, Sunday, 6 May 2012 22:05 (1 year ago) Permalink

Maybe they didn't get permission or a cover was cheaper?

StanM, Sunday, 6 May 2012 22:19 (1 year ago) Permalink

that's possible. there's a great human fly cover by sonovac they could have used.

stirmonster, Sunday, 6 May 2012 22:37 (1 year ago) Permalink

such an amazing band

they really deserve a career-spanning box set

what's up ugly girls? (Shakey Mo Collier), Tuesday, 3 September 2013 18:49 (7 months ago) Permalink

True - but I'd like to see a feature-length documentary even more. There's amazing local news clips from Memphis TV in that Big Star doc, must be tons more great stuff out there.

brio, Tuesday, 3 September 2013 19:31 (7 months ago) Permalink

that panther burns footage is the shit

szarkasm (schlump), Tuesday, 3 September 2013 19:39 (7 months ago) Permalink

shitty quality version:

brio, Tuesday, 3 September 2013 19:45 (7 months ago) Permalink

I wish Ivy would play guitar again - totally underrated.

Elvis Telecom, Tuesday, 3 September 2013 19:52 (7 months ago) Permalink

Yeah - would be nice to know how she's doing these days.

brio, Tuesday, 3 September 2013 19:58 (7 months ago) Permalink

was just looking at the Cramps section of my local store, I could swear that all of the LP versions of their regular studio albums were counterfeit pressings. Really hope Ivy does some kind of comprehensive reissue campaign, and yes a box set would be v nice.

money, chicken and other DNA (sleeve), Tuesday, 3 September 2013 20:10 (7 months ago) Permalink

I can't blame Ivy for effectively retiring but seems like curating their legacy would be right up her alley. of course, there are probably legal/label problems up the wazoo, who knows who owns what

There seems to be many of these types of compilations, anyone hear this? What's recommended?

Gerald McBoing-Boing, Saturday, 22 February 2014 20:35 (1 month ago) Permalink

That looks like a fun set. I downloaded these years ago:

http://blog.wfmu.org/freeform/2009/02/lux-and-ivys-favorites-mp3s.html

but should upgrade to higher quality sets like this one when I get the chance.

EZ Snappin, Saturday, 22 February 2014 20:51 (1 month ago) Permalink

Ned pointed out on twitter that some of those have been cleaned up and the series expanded by the original compiler. Available here:

EZ Snappin, Saturday, 22 February 2014 21:04 (1 month ago) Permalink

who in the hell needs that cleaned up? it'd be better to have an unmastered underwater shortwave wax cylinder molten 96kbps cassette version

massaman gai, Saturday, 22 February 2014 21:15 (1 month ago) Permalink

exactly
