this whole thread is a treat, it always brings a smile to my face.

I don't think i've knowingly ever heard a Dave Matthews Band song in my entire life. Or a Phish song.
I assume this means i'm pretty lucky?

But then Americans don't have to listen to Kasabian or The Enemy so its swings and roundabouts.

Jamie_ATP, Monday, 15 June 2009 22:44 (fourteen years ago) link

feel free to take the piss of the phrase swings and roundabouts
or indeed the phrase 'take the piss'

Jamie_ATP, Monday, 15 June 2009 22:46 (fourteen years ago) link

But then Americans don't have to listen to Kasabian

You'd be surprised. Kasabian made the rounds at American summer festivals a few years back and my ears were an unfortunate victim.

I am so glad I found this post. I finally managed to get through the whole thing. Why?? I have no idea, but it's just too addicting to stop!!

Grendel1969, Monday, 6 July 2009 17:21 (fourteen years ago) link

"some of the greatest artists ever are bland" is possibly the greatest single thing ever written on ILM.

Neil S, Monday, 6 July 2009 17:44 (fourteen years ago) link

I finally managed to get through the whole thing. Why?? because it's intersting.

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Monday, 6 July 2009 17:45 (fourteen years ago) link

surely "because it intersting"?

I think you'll find that the board has lived up to it's description if you look hard enough. Or if you have the time to go through the whole thing.

In the proposal, which The New York Times examined, Mr. Young says that he assisted the affair by setting up private meetings between Mr. Edwards and Ms. Hunter. He wrote that Mr. Edwards once calmed an anxious Ms. Hunter by promising her that after his wife died, he would marry her in a rooftop ceremony in New York with an appearance by the Dave Matthews Band.

I'm from germany. DMB is not widely known around here. I gotta say I think DMB is a great band. I don't know what's going on with the american fans, then again I don't care, because I don't judge a band by its fans (frankly that would be just plainly stupid).
Anyway I was wondering about some of the DMB bashing in american media and googled around, that's how I ended up here.

If you don't ban me for having a different opinion or for digging up this thread, I'd be happy to find out what music you DMB haters listen to (if there is still anyone out there who remembers this thread). Maybe someone could give a counter example to DMB's supposed blandness?

choo, Monday, 14 December 2009 16:19 (fourteen years ago) link

Ah I'm sorry I meant maybe somebody could name a band which is not as bland as DMB.
So I can figure out what you mean, I'm just curious

wait are you just asking what ppl like on a board called I Love Music?

being being kiss-ass fake nice (gbx), Monday, 14 December 2009 16:42 (fourteen years ago) link

I asked what DMB haters listen to.
Maybe DMB haters defines the board, maybe thats your joke.
Mainly I want to know what you mean with bland.

As for Excepter, that is certainly an interesting choice. Very experimental music.
I find it hard to compare it to DMB, but it is certainly more original and unexceptional music than dmb.

choo, Monday, 14 December 2009 16:54 (fourteen years ago) link

DMB haters listen to Excepter, exclusively

jazzgasms (Mr. Que), Monday, 14 December 2009 16:57 (fourteen years ago) link

What makes you think you will be banned? I may not like DMB but that's no reason to dislike you, I say welcome to ILM! and I hope you dig around the rest of the board and join in. There's even an introduction thread somewhere in the archives. Also tip to new person, click on new answers. I think i was here a year before I found out about new answers page. Only noticed when we relocated from greenspun. <end of embarrassing admission>

Thank you for the warm welcome, I'll be sure to stick around :). I was not serious about that banning stuff. I was refering to the post above my first one (by Evan), seems like someone was suggest banned.

It's so aggravating how many people fall for Dave Matthew's fake singing. Thank god his bull is not on the radio as much as it was a few years back! He'll write a 3 (or so) note melody that is actually rather convincing and tuneful, but then he drives it in the ground, repeating it relentlessly until we all just want to say "please, make it stop!" Beyond the 3-note refrain melody, though, everything else is shit--just random unrelated notes that any kindergarten child could write. He might as well come up with those notes by drawing them out of a hat. Then he either whines or whispers them, and everyone thinks he is passionate and sensitive. People seem to think he has a nice voice. I don't get it: since when does closing off the throat until a duck-like quack emerges considered beautiful singing? Please make it stop, Dave Matthews!
