Last Winehouse is best. Dan, do you consider yrself to be influenced at all by Robert Crumb?
― libcrypt, Wednesday, 12 March 2008 23:03 (5 years ago) Permalink
I'm a big Crumb fan, so that's probably true.

dan lacey what are your top 5 most important political issues?
― and what, Wednesday, 12 March 2008 23:20 (5 years ago) Permalink
I've been trying to care. I'm not much motivated by politics anymore, mainly because I see neglect everywhere. 'Hot issues' run for a while as fads and then nothing gets accomplished; I've been trying to get off of that stupid train.
As a partial answer I would say life issues, if anything. Euthanasia still interests me, as does cloning. Renewable energy; if we had advanced solar capacity it would solve many of our domestic and defense related problems.
I'm more interested in why people care about certain issues, particularly as seen through the lens of faith and sexual motivation.
― Dan Lacey, Wednesday, 12 March 2008 23:41 (5 years ago) Permalink
what are your religious beliefs? are you against euthanasia because you believe it takes a life provided by god?
― and what, Wednesday, 12 March 2008 23:54 (5 years ago) Permalink
That's a good question.
I've sort of had a falling out with God as of late, so I'm not really advocating anything except doing good, or trying to do good.
There are still too many cases of people 'coming back' after all hope was gone, so I would err on the side of caution. But as for moral absolutes; except for a few cases I've lost my enthusiasm.

I've had Ilxor's ask me now and then if they can buy a cartoon; if you click on the above image it will take you to a page where you can purchase a high resolution copy from Paypal for $5. If you guys would like to support the cartoon that's a great way to do so.
I'll post a link where you can download a print-copy of the Neverborn/Bob Ross Happy Tree toon as well for GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ. Would make a nice coloring sheet.

Dan, I hate to be all frenchy pedantic here, but the 'e' at the end of petite makes it a feminine adjective. Petit is the proper spelling and p'tit is "li'l".
― Michael White, Thursday, 20 March 2008 20:41 (5 years ago) Permalink
Well, let's get it right. Drop the 'e' and what do you suggest with 'p'tit is "li'l"?'
― Dan Lacey, Thursday, 20 March 2008 20:48 (5 years ago) Permalink
If she's going to call someone 'bonhomme', she's quite likely to say 'p'tit' instead of 'petit'. It's kind of idiomatic, is what I'm saying.

Pic showing penciling and inking for the finished 'bicycle' cartoon. Sometimes I'll isolate different elements to layers in Photoshop and then move them around to get what I want, but I also draw and scan cartoons 'whole' as well.
I started using red markers a few years ago when my local art store was out of black. I never really know what a finished cartoon will look like until late in the process. Also, cartoons don't look that great in red so I really have to try harder to get a better looking product.
For my sketches I'll try to draw upsidedown as much as possible, which forces you to copy what's really there instead of just recording presumptions.
Tried a tablet once but it didn't really work for me.

'Memories Of Barack Obama's Breakfast' - Ebay Auction
One man’s garbage, another man’s online phenomenon - Times-Tribune.com
Dan Lacey, the Minnesota author of the Christian cartoon “Faithmouse,” saw the waffle image online and said he was inspired to make the “Memories” painting, which he offers for sale on eBay.
He paints on the side to support his cartoon business and has made other portraits of Mr. Obama.
“I just thought it was a very nice-looking, half-eaten waffle. It caught my artistic eye and immediately engaged me,” Mr. Lacey said.
