palin did well, but only in not blanking out/no embarrassing silences, etc. it was impressive enough that she was at that level of coherence, but it precluded any actual attacks; it's like last week, when obama attacked mccain and mccain attacked bush - it was only biden that got to really lay into them on the basis of records. i think the dems probably won the news cycle thing; biden looked shifty throughout, but when he'd go for the camera he was bold, spoke with gravitas, etc.

i still can't believe that she raised the 'you're pointing at the past' thing twice without getting pulled up on it/allowing venerable biden to dispatch lofty condemned-to-repeat-itself cliches. biden WIN for courting undecideds with his fluency, palin SECOND PLACE PRIZE for doing her base proud.

no women's rights questions though, despite roe/wade and biden mentioning introducing the act he wrote: disappointing.

It may already have been discussed, but since I seem to be the infrequent and absentee ILXor, I pose a question to all here: I reside in CA. Even in this left leaning state I hear people that I know to be left leaning saying the following things:
1) Obama should have taken Hil as the Veep. It would have helped him to win
2) (This one irks and scares me)No matter what he says and stands for, Obama will never win this election b/c of the many votes held by the middle states; be they democ or repub they simply won't elect a black man as pres of the US b/c they're still to old skool bigots. Comments?

Mom: 'Admit it, you were impressed. I bet she was faking all those dumb answers to Katie Couric to soften people up for that.'

S: 'I already knew she could debate using five sets of GOPAC taking points, but if she's into wasting the time of journalists and by extension the voters in this very important election, that shows plus de ego and minus de common sense.'

May have been Biden’s veep answer. Someone get that man a pocket Constitution. The Heritage Foundation should do a drop tomorrow.

also, it was very satisfying to hear Biden talk about Cheny's unconstitutional expansion of the vice-presidency in exactly the tone merited, i.e. alarm. wtf @ Sarah Palin endorsing Cheney's power hunger?

can I just say that there is no letter K in Ahmenidijad? Both of them kept pronouncing it Akmedinijad. Not that anyone cares, especially since Palin kept trotting out nukular and all.

Palin Tonight [Mark R. Levin]

I have been involved in and observed politics for a long time. Governor Palin is a truly unique national figure. She is down to earth, personable, and smart as hell. That's right. She has been on the national scene for a little over a month, she has been campaigning everywhere, she has had to bone up on all kinds of national issues, and she has shown class throughout. Too often too many are persuaded by the mainstream media's opinion and react to that. This should be another lesson in that regard. As for some of her populist views, she cannot openly campaign against the positions of her presidential running mate. She is the bright light in this campaign from my perspective.

I don't remember the particular question but the most egregious case of not answering the question had to be where the question was about bankrupcy reform and she said "my answer is no" and then starting talking about oil? wtf?

Oh, my mom still assured me that "we're (dad + her) voting Democrats, i don't like what she says," but that "she looked good and spoke well." It's not as if she answered any of the questions in any depth; she seemed primarily to give a one sentence answer and then launch into the pre-programmed response she's been prepping for the past two weeks.

This was most ugly and glaring when she was asked if lack of experience isn't her biggest failing, what her true Achilles heel was and she responded to the question by talking about how her Experience Matters. To be fair she produced a good strong speech there, really well written and delivered, but it didn't even come close to addressing the question! She heard "not experienced" and clicked play on the tape with a big ol' smile that read "ah, I know this one!" As an ex-theater major (god help me), that's the exact type of satisfaction I used to see on the faces of freshmen with a dash of talent who would just beam with the enjoyment of knowing all the words. Biden, on the other hand, heard the question and was really nimble about turning a positive to a negative in an eloquent turn of a phrase about how he had to learn not to accept Supreme Court Justices based solely on their competence.

The bar was so low that she cleared it easily; heaven save us from low expectations.
