Okay, this is just what I needed to rectify the short shrift I've given On Cinema (which I've only seen spottily, as opposed to the dozens of times that I've gone through other Heidecker/Hamburger projects).

if anybody does not cirque soleil then you should look it up online because it really is about a circus, on ropes and with a tightrope and clowms and the things you'd see at a circus but even better than a circus

'Kay, watched a sustained block of the first two seasons, was a little cowed by the two-hour runtime of the first Oscar special but by the time the camera was cutting back and forth between random hobbit faces and the VHS tapes Tim had barfed all over I knew I'd made the right decision.
Have you all seen Tim and Eric Nite Live because that was very much like this.
― Blithering Hayseed (Old Lunch), Monday, 20 May 2019 04:59 (five years ago) link
what on earth is the point of doing an "elaborate timeline" for a narrative that interweaves in parallel a podcast, a web series, another web series, a third web series, a TV series, live shows, multiple websites, years of in-character tweets and other appearances... and only including the podcast and two of the web series?
like, it's a nice design portfolio project, but it's functionally useless prima facie, let alone compared to the youtube playlist that puts the youtube episodes of On Cinema and Decker in narrative order

I just have to content myself with the fact that these dudes aren't as precious about curating their material as I'd personally prefer or I really would have to abandon ship.
You didn't even mention Bicycle Built for Two (which I only own a copy of on the basis of an absolute fluke of having looked at the contents of a random McSweeney's).

that these dudes aren't as precious about curating their material as I'dit’s just some nerd who’s done it, not them. once you get to the parts of the On Cinemaverse where the story goes back and forth between episodes of different series in different genres every week, you’ll see how ludicrously, magnificently precious they arehad not heard of Bicycle Built For Two, but from reviews it seems to have been written by the IRL Tim and Gregg, not the fictional characters?
― tfw you are not easily whelmed (sic), Tuesday, 21 May 2019 00:31 (five years ago) link
some nerd(I do assume as a college project in web design or database building or similar, given the massive attention to subsets and categories and filters, and very minor interest in story. It’s v v impressive at what it’s doing, just not at being a “timeline”! As a viewer, you’ll be far better off switching to the fan-created youtube playlist around the middle of S4)
― tfw you are not easily whelmed (sic), Tuesday, 21 May 2019 00:36 (five years ago) link
Thank you for showing the true path. I want this to be the truly enriching experience I know it can be.
Yes, I suppose Bicycle is by the 'real' Tim and Greg, much like the heralded Yogi Bear pamphlet
― 5 favrite kind of animal. jaguar. giraffe. (Old Lunch), Tuesday, 21 May 2019 01:02 (five years ago) link
hilarious that this is going on 10 seasons now and not once during the show is Tim as enthusiastic as he is in the title segments

'When you've got movies like Tom Cruise in them, you can't go wrong' gets me every single time.

Okay so now I also have to get caught up on the last couple years of the Best Show, this is becoming a more herculean endeavor than I ever would've imagined.

Well except that (in a fashion which I imagine is familiar to you) because I have listened to 15+ years of the Best Show it would basically be a crime against nature for me to cherry pick random episodes I haven't heard when it's clearly incumbent upon me to piss away hundreds of hours atoning for my egregious lapse.

Okay so just finished the second Oscar special and I think maybe that watching Tim get increasingly drunk and belligerent over the course of two hours is maybe the thing that had been missing from my life.

the ep where Tim & Ayaka review the One Direction movie is so good even though it did make me very uncomfortable

Holy shit, Mark Proksch is a secret MVP of this weird-ass world. I'd assumed through all of these Oscar specials (I'm now on my third) that he was just another Abso-Lutely weirdo doing very poor impersonations of W.C. Fields and Chaplin when suddenly I was all, 'heeeeeeyyyy...he's the pie-sitter from Better Call Saul!' That he's able to so seamlessly pick up such a Quall-esque mantle without arousing my suspicions is a real testament to his skill as a performer.
― Pristina Addlepate (Old Lunch), Saturday, 25 May 2019 06:24 (four years ago) link
speaking of not arousing suspicions, here's how he came to IRL Gregg's attention:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dj9VF7LyffU
also that you didn't realise until now either means you really don't notice him, or you're not watching the Decker episodes
― tfw you are not easily whelmed (sic), Saturday, 25 May 2019 09:48 (four years ago) link
Mark Proksch goes quietly from strength to strength. His character is as distinct as Tim and Gregg.
Watching it all through a second time at the moment and the full charm of Joe Estevez and the way his acting of obliviousness in a b-movie way slots into this universe is rapidly becoming apparent.
― alrakis morissette (tangenttangent), Saturday, 25 May 2019 09:58 (four years ago) link
Decker: Classified is what made me go 'waaaaaaitaminute...' but I had my first inkling that something was up when Tim started chucking Chinese food at him (an indignity I wouldn't expect to see visited upon, say, Doug Prishpreed).

oh my god I just saw S5E2 which is where they get the footage for Turkington's original appearance in "Decker", this is absolutely brilliant
― frogbs, Wednesday, 29 May 2019 20:05 (four years ago) link
not to mention Tim's encapsulation of the American right, "while I stand by my position as a member of the pro-life community, when push comes to shove, when you are a part of that situation, choices have to be undertaken...because there was no way...I was gonna be in that situation"
― frogbs, Wednesday, 29 May 2019 20:06 (four years ago) link
Proksch is also great in the "What We Do in the Shadows" series.

GO TO THE LIVE SHOW IF YOU CAN! seeing Turkington in this context live is incredible. it's like the role he was born to play.

also you get Joe Estevez.
Decker is now integrated into the timeline website: https://oncinematimeline.com/#season-5
(no Best Show calls or Marvel movies yet, but IRL Tim was in the studio on the Best Show last week, with James Adomian.)
