Ege = better all the way through Tago = has the better moments

ege is better

It's not fair that I can't vote for Tago Mago any harder.

Right there with you - Tago Mago is the Can record for me.

Opinions just. Here's mine. My favorite 4 Can records, all with Damo Suzuki because I'm in love with him and Can was pretty much shite after he left:
Ege Bamyasi > Future Days > Tago Mago > Soundtracks.
― Moka, Saturday, 30 August 2008 19:50 (fifteen years ago) link
Also, before he joined, it was brilliant too
― I know, right?, Saturday, 30 August 2008 20:00 (fifteen years ago) link
Tago Mago. For the second disc as much as the first. (Seriously, how can you not like Peking O? It's the closest anything in 1970 got to early Boredoms.)
Also:
Can was pretty much shite after he left:
RONG.

I only heard it like that one time, but the one with all the fake world music is pretty funny

What Hurting2 said.
EB was the first Can record I bought -- and for some reason, I was always a little disappointed by it. It may have had something to do w the Musician Magazine review of the reissues which described EB totally wrong. In retrospect, it's obv great--"Vitamin C" is clearly one of their all-time best--but lacks TM's hypnotic grooves and space and the great texture of some of their best recordings, and feels a little...raw in places.
For my money, I think my favorite Can listen is Unlimited Edition.

SOB is a Damo record sans Damo.
― Naive Teen Idol, Saturday, 30 August 2008 23:02 (fifteen years ago) link
Can's self-titled album is arguably as good as anything during the Damo era, albeit it's good in a very different way.
― i fuck mathematics, Saturday, 30 August 2008 23:23 (fifteen years ago) link
I'd actually agree with that. Aside from the Damo era, the self-titled Can album is the most memorable for me.

Tago Mago is just plain better.
I too am with Hurting2 on this. Tago Mago rules too though.

I'd still go with Future Days ahead of either, however.

Tago Mago tastes great, Ege Bamyasi is less filling.

(and Future Days is my favorite Can album)

I'm pulling for Ege Bamyasi. Are you going to join the gang or do I have to corner you in a dark alley?

Tago Maqo for me. EB is not as memorable. TM is messy but the highs are higher.
I also really like Monster Movie. Malcolm Mooney's vocals are almost as good as Damo's.

Someone in 2005 posted on the "lyrics you love to sing wrong" thread that when he/she heard Can's Mushroom, he/she sang it as "I'M GONNA GIG MY DESPAIR!" So that's why my other screen name is that, now.
I'm on a goddamn Can kick. And I love it, god I just love Can. And I never listen to Tago Mago either like I am today, I always head straight for Ege Bamyasi. I always feel like I should play them more, so it's so nice to come back to them. I have an Ege Bamyasi T-shirt thanks to another ILXor.
― Sleep Tundra (Bimble Is Still More Goth Than You), Sunday, 22 March 2009 20:01 (fifteen years ago) link
really hard. basically tago has 'halleluhwah' so wins on that alone. ege is more "consistent" but lacks 'halleluhwah'.
― FREE DOM AND ETHAN (special guest stars mark bronson), Sunday, 22 March 2009 20:04 (fifteen years ago) link
'Tago Mago' is the one I heard first and so in a way had the greatest impact, but 'Ege' is definitely and easily the fave, and has a sound (literally the production) that I like a lot more, their matured sound.
― Soundslike, Monday, 23 March 2009 02:20 (fifteen years ago) link

ilm got the maths right:
32 votes : 16 votes = 2 records : 1 record
it is also about twice as long and can * 2 is two times better then can * 1, isn't it?
and in terms of hypnotic groove "tago mago" totally shits on "ege bamyasi". it doesn't sound like a band, it sounds universal.

But, which Can was better?
Can # 1, with MooneyCan # 2, with SuzukiCan # 3, without either?
