anyway there was talk of Danny's...

deej, Friday, 28 September 2007 14:37 (sixteen years ago) link

yeah Carrell has good moments and meh moments, but luckily the whole cast is great. Dwight, for instance.

kenan, Friday, 28 September 2007 14:40 (sixteen years ago) link

It's at its funniest when it's focusing on...anyone else. The good Carell moments now are when he seems halfway human or competent.

Jordan, Friday, 28 September 2007 14:43 (sixteen years ago) link

Still need to see that show someday.

jaymc, Friday, 28 September 2007 14:50 (sixteen years ago) link

Dudes stop talking about lame shit like TV and start talking about cool shit like art and dancing.

Jordan, Friday, 28 September 2007 15:01 (sixteen years ago) link

horseshoe, how was the play? i'd heard some stories about it, and i'm curious as to how it turned out...

(and yes, it's frustrating sometimes to hear of ppl from your graduating class being insanely successful. my mother is always regaling me with stories of her friends' kids my age who are now working with peter jennings or getting published to wide acclaim or blahblah yawwwwn)

the 49th post or so is invariably about ass or something, nick. it's how these things go.

JuliaA, Friday, 28 September 2007 15:02 (sixteen years ago) link

I forgot to watch Hotel Chevalier last night. Although video downloaded from iTunes doesn't play as well as it used to. I fear it has something to do with the 14,000 mp3s I have.

jaymc, Friday, 28 September 2007 15:03 (sixteen years ago) link

I really liked it. (Passion Play at the Goodman in case anyone's interested.) her name used to be all over the playbills at the student shows I went to in undergrad, and it was kind of cool, because I could see the line of development. I had some criticisms, but mostly I thought it was great and really moving. it is really long, though.

but seriously. wtf am I doing with my life?

horseshoe, Friday, 28 September 2007 15:06 (sixteen years ago) link

horseshoe - Success is however you define it. I define it by my happiness level.

DANNY'S - WHO IS IN? RAISE UP

KitCat, Friday, 28 September 2007 15:06 (sixteen years ago) link

(you're right, Sarah. I'm being horribly petty.)

horseshoe, Friday, 28 September 2007 15:08 (sixteen years ago) link

Don't be so hard on yourself!
DO whatcha FEEL, Maaaannn.

KitCat, Friday, 28 September 2007 15:09 (sixteen years ago) link

I know how you feel, though, Horseshoe. It's hard to read the Class Notes section of the alumni magazine sometimes. Then I remind myself that the only people who write in are the ones who have something to brag about.

I'd love to go to Danny's tonight but will still be packing, etc. Kr and I might reward ourselves with a beer when we're done for the tonight, but it will probably be someplace walkable.

jaymc, Friday, 28 September 2007 15:10 (sixteen years ago) link

Danny's is not going to happen, I am predicting right now.
xpost

No! Happen!

KitCat, Friday, 28 September 2007 15:14 (sixteen years ago) link

The Cubs game will likely preempt any Danny's-like activity for me.

Oh, and a heads-up to Julia: there's one tomorrow and Sunday, too. Prepare to watch a baseball game. Or ignore me for a few hours. :)

kenan, Friday, 28 September 2007 15:16 (sixteen years ago) link

Yeah, I will likely have the radio on tonight.

jaymc, Friday, 28 September 2007 15:16 (sixteen years ago) link

Oct. 7 is a free concert with Flosstradamus, Cool Kids, Califone, Poster Children, the 1900s, the Eternals, and Headache City.

POSTER CHILDREN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think I just had a seizure. A seizure of happiness.

No Danny's for me. I am WIPED THE HECK OUT.

Hey can somebody give me Stingy's email address? Or, really, Dr. Sh@na's email address? But I think she said she doesn't check her email?

Jenny, Friday, 28 September 2007 15:23 (sixteen years ago) link

I might be convinced to goto Danny's.

Then again I might also be convinced to stay home and play Halo 3.

:) kenan

Success is however you define it. I define it by my happiness level.

i like that. my parents are coming to visit this eve and i'm steeling myself for more stories of other ppl's kids and their incredible successes. sigh. maybe i can steer the convo to my car or something else neutral. (they love my car--it's a 1985 honda civic, which contrasts with their luxey cars interestingly)

i was making conversation with my mom at one point after my friend laura visited, and mentioned how disappointing it was for her to know that she couldn't make her living dancing (it would be too much of a strain financially, though it's her first love). my mom's response was that it would be such a waste for her to be in the arts because she's so bright with the summa cum laude and etc whatever and you need to do something challenging for a living when you're smart. arrrrrrrgggghhhhhhhhggrrrrrrr.

many xps as usual--i think that was jesse that had an oscar de la hoya crush.

JuliaA, Friday, 28 September 2007 15:29 (sixteen years ago) link

you need to do something challenging for a living when you're smart

heh. Dancing is for morons, obv. And not difficult at all.

kenan, Friday, 28 September 2007 15:31 (sixteen years ago) link

yeah. wtf mom.

JuliaA, Friday, 28 September 2007 15:33 (sixteen years ago) link

mama's gotta work tomorrow so no dancin/margaritas/goin' out til sat/sun

even then the dancing will probably occur in the kitchen along with the margaritas

the goin'-out is tba

La Lechera, Friday, 28 September 2007 15:54 (sixteen years ago) link

ooh... I haven't had a margarita in ages. Who makes a good one in town?

La Lechera, Friday, 28 September 2007 16:00 (sixteen years ago) link

Argh, I just started reading Achewood from the beginning, and now that's all I want to do all day.

jaymc, Friday, 28 September 2007 16:06 (sixteen years ago) link

Amanda makes a good margarita, I'll tell you that.

Equal parts tequila, triple sec, and lime juice. Easy breezy and DELISH.

HAHA xp!

Jenny, Friday, 28 September 2007 16:09 (sixteen years ago) link

Like, I was always kind of luke warm on margaritas until I had a Handamandarita. It's just another example of how overcomplicating something can make it totally suck.

Jenny, Friday, 28 September 2007 16:10 (sixteen years ago) link

Maybe that's why I haven't had one in so long, because I fear that it'll be not-so-good. I don't trust Chicago margaritas. Possibly an unfounded fear.

I love a good rita, though -- it's the colorful, fruity beverage you can drink without looking like a Girl Drink Drunk.

good morning, chicago.

two travel questions-- any opinions on the best way to o'hare from lakeview? going into the loop to find the blue line seems silly, but i don't know. car is an option, but i heard construction is insane.

also, how early do you have to check in for domestic flights these days? i know i should check the TSA website but am still half asleep...

colette, Friday, 28 September 2007 16:32 (sixteen years ago) link

take fullerton bus to blue line @ california stop, take blue line the rest of the way

deej, Friday, 28 September 2007 16:32 (sixteen years ago) link

Take a bus west to the blue line.

Check in online (usually allowed 24hrs in advance) and print off a boarding pass.

xp: see?

dan m, Friday, 28 September 2007 16:33 (sixteen years ago) link

Bob Cummings played Bob Collins, a swinging bachelor and a professional beautiful model photographer. In his leisure time, Bob loved the ladies and had frequent dates with those gorgeous women.

Yes - any westbound bus to a blue line stop is your ticket to O'Hare happiness.

Jenny, Friday, 28 September 2007 16:33 (sixteen years ago) link

Man I cannot imagine taking bus/subway to the airport if I had a lot of luggage.

Jordan, Friday, 28 September 2007 16:33 (sixteen years ago) link

Wuss.

Jenny, Friday, 28 September 2007 16:34 (sixteen years ago) link

Oh yeah - definitely print off your boarding pass from hom, and if you have to check bags, check in with the outside guys. It's like $2, but $2 not to stand in those long clusterfucky self check-in lines is the bargain of a lifetime.

Jenny, Friday, 28 September 2007 16:36 (sixteen years ago) link

i thought that seemed weird, chalk these up to experience.

i'm still eating them though. i think i'm going to eat my books next. i need a cigarette in the worst possible way. physical withdrawal symptoms in full effect.

I didn't think I was exaggerating, but sometimes I have doubts [about nights when I have a gut full of beer].

...we should agree to disagree and move along to some of the other actions that you have suggested that I undertake. Such as your idea that it might be advantageous for me to fuck my mother.

I daresay that the obverse action, of fucking your mother in my own mother's stead, however, leaves me no such compunctions and is an undertaking I am more than willing to commit to at this time.

If the character and comportment of the issue of her womb is any indication, I cannot help but assume that obtaining your mother's consent for such an act—including the oral and anal penetration which your remarks so clearly describe—would be an easy matter.

Good morning.

Hey, is it Radiohead Download Day yet?

If I won a million dollars, I would:
* First pay off all my debts
* Then give each family member an elaborate present (including Nick)
* Then go on a vacation, maybe to Greece
* Then buy a small bungalow with a manageable yard

I guess it would be nice for me to do something for you guys too... Hmm... What would you like?

KitCat, Tuesday, 9 October 2007 13:26 (sixteen years ago) link

WHAT? That didn't spark any discussion??

I'm in a good mood today. Watch out.

KitCat, Tuesday, 9 October 2007 13:54 (sixteen years ago) link

Okay, I think I'm receiving more e-mails not intended for me. This was last week, and I responded thusly:

Guys

Mike Bett1no has graciously opened his house. I'll provide food and beverages.

please bring words of wisdom for the future married man, and especially a spiritual blessing, maybe a verse or passage that has ment a lot to you. we will have a time to share , encourage and pray for him.

Also i thought it would be fun to give manly gifts to jordan, such as tools or whatever you think he might need or like, if you can.

If you think of anyone that might like to come that i have overlooked please let me know

dan m, Tuesday, 9 October 2007 13:57 (sixteen years ago) link

I thought about it, Sarah, and then I thought how you already threw a great party (wedding), and how a Thirsty Thursday with cognac would just be decadent, and how Vegas would not be a consensus vacation, and so there's not much else I can think of, unless you wanted to give us each a check for $5,000 and enjoy hearing the stories of how we spent it.

Eazy, Tuesday, 9 October 2007 13:57 (sixteen years ago) link

Jordan, this sounds like a Twilight Zone episode where you show up at the house and it's a parallel version of you marrying the grown version of a girl you liked when you were 8.

Eazy, Tuesday, 9 October 2007 13:59 (sixteen years ago) link

I wish I knew where it was! All I find about this Bett1no character is someone at Cerritos College in CA and this: There at the helm was 16-year-old Mike Bett1no,. handling the wheel like a veteran. The captain grinned. and relaxed; for a moment he'd forgotten about the ...

Forgotten about the WHAT????

I'm in a bad mood, too. My morning already sucks between the swamp heat, my foot hurting, and walking all the way to the train without my wallet and going all the way home again. And being PMSy and so clumsy that when I tried to fan myself with my book this morning, I popped myself in the lip with the hardcover edges.

I have got to find a new job, I hate these people. They bitch and bitch about being "so busy" and having "so much to do", but they are apparently not busy enough to keep them from shooting out the door at 5:00 on the button like a rocket. Meanwhile, I'm working 10-12 hour days to keep up with the workload. Fuck you all.

i'm waiting for the record store to open so i can sell some records and buy some food. i think it would be cheaper if i just kept smoking because i can't stop eating when i'm off them. i ran out of food yesterday and was eating things that technically are food but really aren't like left over tortillas and cheese or my attempt at making bisuits.

there's a small chance that this apple-scented candle that's on my coffee table won't see the end of the week.

Hey guys, this is that fondue/beer/cheese/burgers place that I really liked but can never remember the name of: http://chicagoburgerproject.blogspot.com/2007/10/hot-chocolate.html
