i have a special holiday message from el tomboto!
I sort of miss ILX but I definitely don't miss reading meaningless threads on Zing on my phone just to waste time and get infuriated. Zing should have an option (A DEFAULT, RATHER) that requires significant mental acuity, endurance and fast-twitch gymnastics in order to post, in an intentionally annoying routine that requires no less than 3 minutes of dicking around with your phone and if you fuck any of it up, you only find out at the end of the drill, so you have to start over from scratch. Eventually, people will put up speed runs of Zing to show how they can achieve posting status in only 2m56s. GDQ audience members will stand and applaud forcefully when this milestone is achieved.
In the meantime, I just lurk the WHOCHURCH thread every Monday morning, to remind me how much I don't miss ILX, because I'm clearly enjoying a completely different children's sci-fi TV show than every other old man on ILE.
he asked me to copy and paste that part. in addition, he says:
"big happy holidays you tiresome idiots. I hope you all attain self-actualization in your chosen lifeways."
:D

poster x was posting on every thread and really try-hard about
fuck, I remember when people said that about me, and it actually was really shitty to read, even if it was "true" or whatever, but after a bunch of my friends died in a fire 2 years ago, I'm trying to be a nicer person, even on the internet, and I think Ross is fine and has my sympathies for whatever criticism he's gotten on ilx for what sounds like something that really didn't hurt anyone?
― sarahell, Tuesday, 27 November 2018 01:49 (five years ago) link
Aw hope you’re doing well too tomboy!

I'm surprised some ppl are willing to be so frank itt knowing that there are posts on this board from 2001
― flappy bird, Tuesday, 27 November 2018 02:49 (five years ago) link
2000, even.
― Stoop Crone (Trayce), Tuesday, 27 November 2018 04:47 (five years ago) link
the thing about Ross is that even when he was clearly struggling with his issues, he would always respond to other people's problems they talked about with a post saying he was open to an email if they ever wanted to vent or share experiences. I hope he's sorting himself out.
― boxedjoy, Tuesday, 27 November 2018 10:22 (five years ago) link
I'd go so far as to say that most of the things that seemed difficult in Ross' life were due to his compassion, which as character flaws go is not a bad one.

You guys are way too rough on people who are totally fine or easy to just skip over.

i don't remember that alleged phase of sarahell's posting career, and i definitely don't remember her bizarrely threatening to sic gangster acquaintances on me
anyway, i miss djp more than poster x

thanks to ilx i now pronounce your first name hoosteen though so it's ok ;)
Next thing I suppose you're gonna tell us that your surname isn't pronounced as if there's a -meister to follow. What is this world coming to.

for years i'd hear "left-tenant" and get confused, or wonder why everyone called Jane Tennison "mum"

if u want to kno if u r louie tho:
are you huey, dewey, or louie?
― F# A# (∞), Tuesday, 27 November 2018 17:08 (five years ago) link
Houis, Douis or Louis.
― Monica Kindle (Tom D.), Tuesday, 27 November 2018 17:10 (five years ago) link
Wasn't there some quip about English being just French poorly spoken by Germans? Pronouncing 'Louis' as 'Louie' gives it the lie somewhat.
― pomenitul, Tuesday, 27 November 2018 17:11 (five years ago) link
over the last couple of years i've played a few cricket matches with someone called louis, but pronounced lewis. to his intense annoyance, everyone pronounces his name my way
tbf most famous people called louis are in my camp. the only noteworthy british sleb who does it lewis-style is gymnast louis smith, who's only a sleb for the two months either side of any given olympics
― imago, Tuesday, 27 November 2018 17:13 (five years ago) link
Worked with a Louie Louis, don't think I've ever met a Lewis Louis.

― Monica Kindle (Tom D.), Tuesday, 27 November 2018 17:16 (five years ago) link
I assume Lou-ie Armstrong because he wss from New Orleans?
― Monica Kindle (Tom D.), Tuesday, 27 November 2018 17:17 (five years ago) link
... as was Louis Prima!

I always thought the city was called St Louie but apparently that's just in the song
― Colonel Poo, Tuesday, 27 November 2018 17:18 (five years ago) link
It was founded by the French, so arguably everyone has been mispronouncing it for centuries
― rob, Tuesday, 27 November 2018 17:21 (five years ago) link
The Louis in my hometown and St Louis, MO is pronounced Lewis by everyone apart from my late paternal grandparents.

I thought whether the 's' is silent or not depended on your feelings about CK.
― pomenitul, Tuesday, 27 November 2018 17:30 (five years ago) link
Most of the places in Minnesota named after les voyageurs at least *try* for the French pronunciation.
― suzy, Tuesday, 27 November 2018 17:30 (five years ago) link
If any of you non-yanks have yet to hear an American pronounce 'Notre Dame' you should really check it out, you're in for a treat.
