yeah sports Twitter is generally very good esp. during games

using decent search terms, twitter is good for learning about local news as it's developing. for example, last week a car drove through the front of my local grocery store. so i just typed in the name of the grocery store, sorted by "latest", and it was the quickest way to find out wtf happened

it's also good for yelling at dumb politicians and never, ever getting a response

a lot of ppl are against this behavior but like we have proof that the actual president checks his mentions so why wldnt u take a shot on him knowing that you want him to choke on his own shit

the only celebrity i consistently try to torment, for reasons that i myself dont fully understand, is newt gingrich

i try to yell at politicians in the most natural way, possible. i don't force it, in fact, i try not to do it. i just wait for a particularly incredibly dumb politician to break me out of my rational zone and then just fucking go for it. "THIS will the clever tweet that ends his presidency". then, several hours later, after it attains 1 Like by someone who appears to have posted only NowThis videos for the last 3 years straight, i delete it

one time i replied to hillary "please leave us alone" and it got RTed into maga twitter and i felt kinda gross so i deleted it

also ive made that same reply to hillary on a number of occasions, its my standard hillary reply

i kinda miss when facebook was good. i mean not that it was ever good-good but like there was definitely an era when it wasn't exclusively ppl i hate who posted to it

its also just full of of cruft now, the less it becomes —a site for friends— the worse it is

i deleted my fb account abt six months ago and there's not a single thing i miss about it, though i had essentially abandoned using it for at least a couple years prior to that

Last year, we upgraded tweet length to 280 and guess what? Use of 'please' is up 54% and 'thank you' is up 22%. I love that! Also, people are asking more questions and having more conversations. All this, and the majority of tweets are still under 140. It worked.

i just deactivated my account. the site really caters to the bad, dumb bit of my brain and just feeds me rage. it's the first social media thing i ever ended up actively hooked on and I'm going to try and read during the times i would have reached for my phone

I admit I'm addicted to Twitter, but I do think you can manipulate your user experience there to be something you like

that's quite possible but the addiction to a website/app is something i find sufficiently deleterious or alarming regardless of the experience with the thing itself.

yea i've been halfheartedly trying to quit for a while.. internet is kind of awkward without twitter though, it's weird like, going to websites

ive been thinking about deactivating for a while. it's a miserable place where people act small and petty, sanctimonious, unreflective, uncharitable. there are things about it that work but it also brings out terrible qualities in people. every time i go on it i feel irritated by what i see.

after 8 years I still don't "get" twitter and that's probably a good thing. it seems like either opinions4u or 'look how I zinged this famous/semifamous person' but I have zero confidence in the accuracy of that appraisal

oh and then there's weird twitter but I never found one account I really jived with there either

Arts/science/professional/straightlaced twitter can be great of course. Sports too but how you filter your feed into something digestible and good I have no idea
