btw to the discussion upthread, i saw it for the first time a few months back in the recent restoration, i thought it was good-good. not particularly digestible or "great" but not so-bad-it's-good. just closer to NYC performance art of the time than to the fun crazy NYC-set cheapo scifi exploitation movie which it's masquerading as.
there is also one point where one of the main characters is in this costume, seen very briefly, but it HAS to be where marc silvestri got the design for Jubilee. it's dead on.

two weeks pass...
This is on Amazon prime. Hadn't seen it in 20 years, very stunning in HD. Yes, it has plenty of ridiculous moments, although the humor seems purposeful to me. The cinematography is immaculate throughout.
The weird affected acting, deliberate framing, use of close ups, and bright colors all make this seem like a strong precursor to a number of indie directors like Hal Hartley and Gregg Araki.
