Yeah, been pondering that one for a bit.

that synth (?) riff that opens ”robbers” sounds just like the hook to “love it if we made it”

k3vin k., Tuesday, 24 July 2018 19:10 (five years ago) link

The best possible results you could hope for by mashing up the Dowtown lights beat with the my sharona topline

Vapor waif (uptown churl), Tuesday, 24 July 2018 19:43 (five years ago) link

Haha, good call on My Sharona

Vinnie, Wednesday, 25 July 2018 00:43 (five years ago) link

this is the best band that has ever existed

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 25 July 2018 03:54 (five years ago) link

that better be the lede for the spin review

k3vin k., Wednesday, 25 July 2018 04:32 (five years ago) link

they play "heart out" and "a change of heart" back to back which is so perfect

k3vin k., Wednesday, 25 July 2018 04:36 (five years ago) link

i can't imagine listening to "heart out" and then not following it immediately with "settle down"

monotony, Wednesday, 25 July 2018 04:47 (five years ago) link

"so far (it's alright)" sounds like dj koze

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 25 July 2018 06:01 (five years ago) link

That Healy tweet from a few days ago is funny because 'Antichrist' really is one of their best tracks to date and I don't blame the 1975 hardcore for repeatedly badgering them to play it live.

Le Baton Rose (Turrican), Wednesday, 25 July 2018 17:57 (five years ago) link

would much rather hear Haunt // Bed as far as EP tracks they've never played live

ufo, Wednesday, 25 July 2018 18:08 (five years ago) link

new song is their blue nilest yet

||||||||, Wednesday, 25 July 2018 19:08 (five years ago) link

Ooh, I wonder how long it takes for him to talk about rehab in this one... *clicks*

Le Baton Rose (Turrican), Thursday, 2 August 2018 17:18 (five years ago) link

To be fair, it wasn't him - but six words is going to be a record that's going to be hard to beat.

Le Baton Rose (Turrican), Thursday, 2 August 2018 17:19 (five years ago) link

it's what the album is about

princess of hell (BradNelson), Thursday, 2 August 2018 17:23 (five years ago) link

band talks about things that happened to them in interview shocker

princess of hell (BradNelson), Thursday, 2 August 2018 17:24 (five years ago) link

As much as their music has grown on me, in 2018 "posh boy with a smack addiction goes to rehab in Barbados to end his drug hell" is one of the most tedious/lousiest/boring angles to promote a record. The whole thing gives me 'Used to be in Evil Gazebo' vibes, which is a shame - I'm sure their forthcoming music is going to be very good.

Le Baton Rose (Turrican), Thursday, 2 August 2018 17:31 (five years ago) link

thanks for your input

princess of hell (BradNelson), Thursday, 2 August 2018 17:36 (five years ago) link

He excitedly plays me some of A Brief Inquiry on his Mac. The songs variously recall George Michael, John Cale, Chet Baker, Radiohead and Drake.

oh jeez

where can I go to end my turrican hell

||||||||, Thursday, 2 August 2018 20:08 (five years ago) link

Actual hell, iirc.

Le Baton Rose (Turrican), Thursday, 2 August 2018 20:11 (five years ago) link

Many would call it a protest song, though Healy is dubious. “Hopefully it could be used on a montage for the times, but it’s not going to change the times,” he says. “It doesn't provide a solution.”

I have such low standards for musicians' level of insight into their own work (or capacity to reveal it in interviews) that Matt's generally OTM little statements about his music are always a bit more surprising to me than they should be.

Don’t forget killfile!

droit au butt (Euler), Thursday, 2 August 2018 21:07 (five years ago) link

Or perhaps you could attempt to argue why - in 2018 - it isn't one of the most tedious/lousiest/boring angles to promote a record with.

Christ, not even Damon Albarn circa 13 was this crass.

Le Baton Rose (Turrican), Thursday, 2 August 2018 21:14 (five years ago) link

Anyway, one thing I'm looking forward to is seeing how the forthcoming two albums stack up against each other... Will they have two distinct approaches or more like part one and part two? Will people treat it as a Load/Reload or Kid A/Amnesiac and start making their own compilations/ideal tracklistings? How far will they reach stylistically over the two records? Etc.

Le Baton Rose (Turrican), Thursday, 2 August 2018 21:24 (five years ago) link

i mean everything is pr when you're about to release a record but matty actually went to rehab

i'm still struggling to figure out what you're really complaining about: the nature of profile writing over the past several decades, the nature of promotion over the past several decades, the nature of being a band with an album to promote over the past several decades

princess of hell (BradNelson), Thursday, 2 August 2018 21:26 (five years ago) link

changing the subject abruptly is definitely the only way turrican admits that he's full of shit

princess of hell (BradNelson), Thursday, 2 August 2018 21:27 (five years ago) link

Christ almighty, Brad - if you have to ask, then I suppose you will never know. If the band are as interesting as they say they are, then perhaps they'd be better off talking about the most interesting part - their music. Matt Healy's drug habits are anything but interesting.

Changing the subject abruptly? I gave you an entire three fucking hours, Brad.

Le Baton Rose (Turrican), Thursday, 2 August 2018 21:34 (five years ago) link

it's so cliché that he did this thing he actually did, what a wanker!!!!

princess of hell (BradNelson), Thursday, 2 August 2018 21:41 (five years ago) link

OTM.

Le Baton Rose (Turrican), Thursday, 2 August 2018 21:42 (five years ago) link

i nearly had forgotten that you think people get addicted to heroin on purpose, thrilled to be reminded

princess of hell (BradNelson), Thursday, 2 August 2018 21:44 (five years ago) link

I guess you would be thrilled to be reminded of something that I never actually said.

Le Baton Rose (Turrican), Thursday, 2 August 2018 21:50 (five years ago) link

However, I do look forward to reading what little I can about The 1975's forthcoming music in between paragraphs of a spoiled brat waxing lyrical about his drug habits and the dumb lifestyle choices he makes to colour in his black hole of a personality.

Le Baton Rose (Turrican), Thursday, 2 August 2018 21:57 (five years ago) link

It's okay, though - I think Billy Corgan is a prize tit as well, and I still like his music.

Le Baton Rose (Turrican), Thursday, 2 August 2018 21:59 (five years ago) link

i don't understand why you continue to do this when so many people have asked you to stop..... what do you get out of it

J0rdan S., Thursday, 2 August 2018 22:10 (five years ago) link

I'm discussing the promotion/PR of the forthcoming album by The 1975 on a thread about The 1975 on a forum about music.

Le Baton Rose (Turrican), Thursday, 2 August 2018 22:16 (five years ago) link

yeah but nobody wants to talk about it with you. what's your fascination with posting in this thread? surely there are other places for you to go

J0rdan S., Thursday, 2 August 2018 22:17 (five years ago) link

this thread is something enjoyable that you make unenjoyable, it's incredibly selfish

J0rdan S., Thursday, 2 August 2018 22:18 (five years ago) link

What's my fascination with posting in this thread? Well, I guess that would have something to do with the fact that I'm looking forward to The 1975's next album and as a result am reading this thread and press surrounding the album.

That people are throwing their toys out of the pram because I have the nerve to like this bands music while thinking their singer is an idiot is not really my problem.

Le Baton Rose (Turrican), Thursday, 2 August 2018 22:26 (five years ago) link

If we could get back to discussing the music rather than the Cult of Matty bawling away, that would be wonderful.

I think there's a chance people are still annoyed because you spent five years trolling this thread and the end of year lists any time they placed about how much you hated them. It's not that you disliked them, it's how you expressed your views over and over again obviously looking for trouble or to get a rise out of their fans. Now it just seems like that even though you've come around to the music, that people can already see the pattern where you're going to bring up how much you hate him as a person every single time. The repetition is tedious and I honestly don't know how you can be bothered with this style of posting all the time.

there's no new music to talk about, so we're talking about this story, a conversation you're derailing, even though people are pleading with you to stop. you can't just come back when there's a conversation you can actually contribute to? i don't get it.

J0rdan S., Thursday, 2 August 2018 22:46 (five years ago) link

I think what people need to do is stop getting aggressive when people say something they don't like about a member of a band they like. This conversation wouldn't have taken the turn it did had this not happened.
