gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 14:29 (twenty years ago) link

3 singles? There's just gonna be one, and they have it, artwork's not done. Jeff's book is finished, too. I'll email Jon and see what time they go on.

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 14:36 (twenty years ago) link

ddb, Wednesday, 28 April 2004 14:45 (twenty years ago) link

cutty (mcutt), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 14:46 (twenty years ago) link

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 14:47 (twenty years ago) link

ddb, Wednesday, 28 April 2004 14:48 (twenty years ago) link

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 15:24 (twenty years ago) link

gotta stick with "play the instore, then drink mint juleps" I think

J0hn Darn1elle (J0hn Darn1elle), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 15:29 (twenty years ago) link

well I might have to go to instore, go see CL, then get juleps. Or maybe put juleps first. Either way, if Pete's fucks up and still doesn't have mint, I can grab some on the way.

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 15:31 (twenty years ago) link

I don't think Steve Keene's coming this time unfortunately....

OH NOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!! my life suddenly has no meaning. my favorite all-time record fair buy was my steve keene neil young statuette. $1. i was so hoping to buy neil some friends this year.

fact checking cuz (fcc), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 16:53 (twenty years ago) link

Yeah, I was thinking of getting mint on the way also. Steve Keene also didn't do the last record fair. It is all very sad.

Carey (Carey), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 18:09 (twenty years ago) link

Steve Keene also didn't do the last record fair.

ahem. yes he did.

ddb, Wednesday, 28 April 2004 18:12 (twenty years ago) link

if y'all want to go to Pete's on Fri night, you can see my friend Pete (!) play there from 9-10:30

gabbneb (gabbneb), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 18:26 (twenty years ago) link

not likely!

cutty (mcutt), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 18:27 (twenty years ago) link

i figured

gabbneb (gabbneb), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 18:29 (twenty years ago) link

I'll be volunteering at the fair on Sunday. Can't wait to buy lots of records.

mcd (mcd), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 20:12 (twenty years ago) link

my old college chum Pete Galub...

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 20:14 (twenty years ago) link

Where was Steve Keene at the last fall one? I was volunteering and he was nowhere to be found.

Carey (Carey), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 23:09 (twenty years ago) link

I think he had mini-paintings (CD's?) last time.

Brian Turner (btwfmu), Thursday, 29 April 2004 02:21 (nineteen years ago) link

gang gang dance will be at tommy's tonight as well, word

cutty (mcutt), Thursday, 29 April 2004 12:12 (nineteen years ago) link

I made the instore but I was way way way too shy to come up and say hello. Apart from the new album, I'm not very familiar with John's music so I was surprised at how lively he was live -- sometimes his whole body spasms up to emphasize a word or line.

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Friday, 30 April 2004 09:34 (nineteen years ago) link

Yes, there were mini-paintings of album covers at the late 03 fair. There were mostly Neil Young and Sonic Youth paintings, but others were mixed in. I got a mini version of SY's "Dirty."

Matthew Perpetua (Matthew Perpetua), Friday, 30 April 2004 11:03 (nineteen years ago) link

I got a painting of the Feelies debut and one of the dB's debut. I think this was at the last fair.

mcd (mcd), Friday, 30 April 2004 12:59 (nineteen years ago) link

six months pass...
dude - like, psycho collectors

all these huddled groups of people that obviously know each other from every up n down the NorthEast events, comparing records n recent tales
and silent deadly types grabbing great handfuls of R&B 45's to sort thru, not letting on what they're after

paid for the $20 upfront each Fri evening bit
was fun even just for the experience

my takings:

Tim Maia - Tim Maia (1976) LP
Antonio Carlos & Jocafi - Mudei De Ideia LP
Marshall Jefferson presents Hercules - "Lost In The Groove" 12"
Tyrannosaurus Rex - Unicorn LP
Syl Johnson - Total Explosion LP

lotta music celebs there - Thurston, Tom Verlaine, Todd Terry, etc
best part was when I went up to Devendra Banhart and flashed Unicorn at him, eliciting a chuckle!

(Nov 5th-7th by the way)

Paul (scifisoul), Sunday, 7 November 2004 00:18 (nineteen years ago) link

First WFMU Fair I'm gonna miss in like 10 years!

mcd (mcd), Sunday, 7 November 2004 00:35 (nineteen years ago) link

I'm going tomorrow. There's your warning.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Sunday, 7 November 2004 01:42 (nineteen years ago) link

If you see a lot of 60's-70's country & western albums at the WFMU tables, they used to be my mom's. Give them a good home.

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Sunday, 7 November 2004 01:49 (nineteen years ago) link

(that wasn't directed at Alex specifically, btw)

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Sunday, 7 November 2004 01:49 (nineteen years ago) link

I swore to god I wasn't going to go this year. maybe I'll stop by near the end tomorrow. Much of the good stuff will be gone, I'll be able to find those few things I want that nobody else cares about, and you can make the deals...

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Sunday, 7 November 2004 01:50 (nineteen years ago) link

I might go by tomorrow when things are cheaaaaaap. I'm sure, even though it'll be picked over, that I'll find something fun.

Ian John50n (orion), Sunday, 7 November 2004 02:08 (nineteen years ago) link

I have found amazing things at the very last minute on sunday. Not to mention all the people who only have tables on sunday who won't be picked through by the people who only figure it's worth going on fri or sat...

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Sunday, 7 November 2004 02:26 (nineteen years ago) link

judging from the schedule this year, many dealers are only showing for one or two of the days
so there'll probably be good stuff all the way thru

I barely scratched the surface and soon as I left thought of all sorts of things I shoulda checked for
picture sleeve 7" (or any) of "Teenage Kicks" foremost

Paul (scifisoul), Sunday, 7 November 2004 05:19 (nineteen years ago) link

Tyrannosaurus Rex - Unicorn LP

haha i just sold my copy!

amateur!!st, Sunday, 7 November 2004 05:31 (nineteen years ago) link

Paul (scifisoul), Sunday, 7 November 2004 06:12 (nineteen years ago) link

I'm going on Sunday if anybody wants to tip a pint.

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Sunday, 7 November 2004 07:41 (nineteen years ago) link

*weeps*

wish i was there.

bulbs (bulbs), Sunday, 7 November 2004 07:53 (nineteen years ago) link

2 or 3 record fairs ago I was undergoing a serious Undertones phase and even though I had the CDs, found a dealer w/ most of the singles and picked up my 3 favorite songs in that lovely 7" format, You've Got My Number, My Perfect Cousin and Wednesday Week.

Paul, you still at Tower?

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Sunday, 7 November 2004 07:57 (nineteen years ago) link

yep -
wish I'd gone thru the whole messthetics table - lotsa great picturesleeve punk/newwave era 7"s

Paul (scifisoul), Sunday, 7 November 2004 19:46 (nineteen years ago) link

I just came back -- didn't buy one damn thing, but was tapped by Jimmy The Mod (or, as he said, "Jimmy the Asshole Mod").

Anyway, same ol' stuff -- but a thinning demographic. Sort've depressing, actually.
