Because people suck so bad, this stuff is still all out of print.

Screaming Blue Messiahs also had excellent backing vocals, right up there with Van Halen....

Wounded Bird just reissued Gun-Shy and Bikini Red today. I just wish that label would start doing bonus tracks (first EP please) and liner notes.

these new time markers are so dramatic

A few years ago I sold the Elektra CDs of those two on Amazon for a ridiculous amount of money.

Smash the Amazon Marketplace.

No one mention 'Sweet Water Pools' yet?

Enemy Insects (NickB), Tuesday, 7 July 2009 22:35 (fourteen years ago) link

Bowie used to rep for them all the time; he hinted in a couple of '87 interviews that he wanted to produce them.

I think they even supported him at some of his stadium shows at one point.

Enemy Insects (NickB), Tuesday, 7 July 2009 22:38 (fourteen years ago) link

Wait? Are they re-mastered?

Alex in NYC, Tuesday, 7 July 2009 23:42 (fourteen years ago) link

The Wounded Bird stuff typically sounds like shit. :(

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 8 July 2009 00:35 (fourteen years ago) link

So when does the Motor Boys Motor album get reissued? That's when they were really ferocious. Or at least I thought so at the time, when I actually owned the thing. Even had a better Flinstones song than the second SBMs album, which I trashed as a sellout in Creem when it came out.

Wonder what my Peel Sessions EP would go for now...

six years pass...

There are plans for a box, currently titled Vision in Blues, that will include remastered versions of every album with B-sides appended (including the Good and Gone EP, expanded to 11 tracks as it is on iTunes), a live disc, and some extraneous material (a 7", reproduction backstage passes). Here's a mock-up photo of what it might look like; the rumor is it may be out in April.

any suggestion of a cd edition ?
i so would get one if so ...

mark e, Wednesday, 3 February 2016 19:48 (eight years ago) link

Yeah, it's a CD box set, not vinyl reissues. Sorry if that wasn't clear.

woo hoo !
brilliant news ..

The Vision in Blues box set (5 CDs, as follows: Gun Shy + all B-sides, Bikini Red + all B-sides, Totally Religious + all B-sides, the 11-track version of Good & Gone, and a previously unreleased live album, plus a live 7") is now available for pre-order. My order's already in, though there's no release date yet - all they're saying is "soon."

curmudgeon, Friday, 3 June 2016 13:44 (seven years ago) link

looking forward to the remasters, though i can't imagine there's much to be done about the drum production.

was just thinking re this yesterday so ta muchly for the tip off.

one month passes...

well, my boxset arrived.
sounding perfectly fine to me, but i aint an audiophile so could not say how they are in comparison to previous cd issues.
the booklet with bands history rundown is well done given i knew very little about the story of the band.
all in all a good summation of the bands catalogue.

mark e, Monday, 1 August 2016 17:36 (seven years ago) link

Waiting for mine to arrive - expect it'll take a little longer to reach the US.

Don Van Gorp, midwest regional VP, marketing (誤訳侮辱), Monday, 1 August 2016 19:21 (seven years ago) link

ahh yeah.
the laminate repro is a typical 'special extra' which is totally pointless.
however, the extra cd-r with 5 live tracks is bloody wonderful.

mark e, Monday, 1 August 2016 19:45 (seven years ago) link

(if i got the extras for early doors ordering, then you totally will have got them !)

mark e, Monday, 1 August 2016 19:46 (seven years ago) link

Yeah, my invoice says those are coming.

Don Van Gorp, midwest regional VP, marketing (誤訳侮辱), Monday, 1 August 2016 19:54 (seven years ago) link

just have to sit back and wait.
tis weird to be able to listen to a relatively successful bands complete catalogue in a couple of hours.
gotta love the era of the short album.
just a shame they could not get clearance for the peel session stuff.
i am assuming it was a clearance issue, as this has been released in conjunction with WEA who i guess have no access to the peel session.

mark e, Monday, 1 August 2016 20:03 (seven years ago) link

no neighbours tonight.
bloody hell this band knew how to make a fantastically brilliant noise.

mark e, Tuesday, 2 August 2016 21:21 (seven years ago) link

just been advised that the last 4 tracks on 'good and gone' are actually the peel session.

mark e, Tuesday, 2 August 2016 21:47 (seven years ago) link

Can't believe these guys get a reissue - good for them -- i'll throw a shout for "Killer Born Man". And on a completely unrelated note, Mr. Carter can plop a hot steamy one on a similarly-domed guitarist with the same initials.

bodacious ignoramus, Saturday, 6 August 2016 23:07 (seven years ago) link

Lol at the first half dozen posts.

It's £45.40 on Easy Action's site, and £28 (with shipping to US) on Amazon.uk, and $59 USD in the US Amazon site. That's quite a wide range in pricing. I ordered the cheapest option.

Fastnbulbous, Sunday, 7 August 2016 14:19 (seven years ago) link

Easy Action really jumped the price up - when I pre-ordered, I believe it was £35.

Don Van Gorp, midwest regional VP, marketing (誤訳侮辱), Sunday, 7 August 2016 15:02 (seven years ago) link

two months pass...

Just picked up the box set. (Found it in an actual brick n' mortar record store, if you can believe it. They had 3 copies.) What great racket these guys made! Can't believe the Bowie endorsement (plus that Flintstones song) didn't put them over the top. I remember seeing them in the 80's, Bill Carter playing with no pick, just using his fingers, a Tasmanian devil of blood, sweat and spit. (In an impeccable suit, no less.) I still wonder how it's possible to play like that and not shred your fingers to the bone each night.

henry s, Wednesday, 21 December 2016 21:27 (seven years ago) link

I only know the Flintstones song, what's a good example of what else they did

Whiney G. Weingarten, Wednesday, 21 December 2016 21:47 (seven years ago) link

Everything's on Spotify. My favorite album is Bikini Red (the one with "I Wanna Be a Flintstone" on it), but Gun Shy is really good too.

Listening to this now. I hate Gutfeld, but it's amazing to hear this guy's voice again after basically 30 years.
