Chrono Trigger is another one of those games where you get too powerful too fast, and there's just an infinitude of awesome combos and powers you can acquire, but never actually would in the course of playing the thing.

This is literally the only thing I can think of that's wrong with this game.

YAY! Funniest game I've ever played.

If Toejam & Earl would have been ported to other systems, it would have broken into the top 75, I bet. As it is, anyone who never got a Genesis missed out. I actually never sat down and beat it until a few months ago, when I downloaded it onto my Wii.

i have a 1989 copy of C+VG somewhere that has a preview of this, but i didn't play it till 1994 :(

Along with maybe Dagger of Amon Ra, Monkey Island was the pinnacle of the mouse-based graphic adventure. No dead ends, no dying, puzzles that were genuinely fun to figure out, an amazing soundtrack, and the lushest pixel-painted world ever realized. I love Melee Island in all its blue-black glory, punctuated by glowing yellow windows...

It took a hit because only the first game of the series was nominated, which isn't the best. The huge, freeform maps didn't appear until Sonic CD and Sonic 2.

Sonic's a decent game, but if I were heading off to a desert island there'd be at least 100 others I'd pick first.

Surely an effect of vote-splitting - there was only one Sonic game nommed versus half a dozen Marios. Given the restrictions on nominations, that spread probably gives a clearer indicator of ILX's collective preference on this battle.

Yes.

For some foolish reason I begged for the Genesis over the SNES and got it. I think at that particular moment the Genesis was cheaper, and with Sonic in the deck the two systems were fairly comparable. Unfortunately, it turned out that the last 2-3 years of the SNES produced an absolute slew of stone-cold classic games, whereas the Genesis kind of just puttered on, getting somehow more grainy-looking with each game.

Not just the UK, Europe and South America as well were areas with much bigger Sega penetration than Nintendo.

It's only as I contemplate what puzzle games I like better than Lemmings that I notice the conspicuous absence of Dr. Mario.

Lemmings is possibly the perfect mobile phone game.

Brilliant game but there's never been a perfect version of it. Eventually too much of the challenge comes from hitting the right lemming at the exact right time.

NES version was fucked so you could get in an infinite loop that stopped you finishing a level. Coz of that--fuck it.

I voted high for nostalgia, didn't expect it to zoom so far up. It's one of the few games I played LOADS, though.
