Accentmonkey: How was Fringe?

Dude, Fringe is not till the end of September/beginning of October. Come with me to the Heart of Darkness thing, it will be weird and strange.

accentmonkey, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 13:02 (sixteen years ago) link

Also, you do know that that's half a zine you've written right there.

accentmonkey, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 13:02 (sixteen years ago) link

Ha ha that's pretty much what it's going to be: gig reviews, cd reviews and I'm going to call DV a gay.

I've forgotten, what date is hear of darkness? Myself and s.o. might be on for that. We can haz culchewer?

kv_nol, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 13:31 (sixteen years ago) link

Kv, I'm SOOOOOOOOOOO jealous you got to see the Beasties. :( (also I'm not a confederate, just a Southerner)

Ms Misery, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 13:31 (sixteen years ago) link

Oh, not for ages. October 14th, something like that. I'll keep you posted.

accentmonkey, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 13:34 (sixteen years ago) link

Savage. Thanks.

I saw them twice! Greatest hits set which was fucking ANIMAL (as in packed and insane) but their gig after (where they were playing b-sides and some newer things from The Mix Up) was just class. The first was full of people shouting along, the second more music-y and fun!

kv_nol, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 13:38 (sixteen years ago) link

Their last tour for 5 Boroughs was like this. Three different sets complete with costume changes.

First: old school b-boy outfits rocking the hits
Second: suits, instruments and rotating stage rocking the instrumentals
Last: I don't remember what they wore but it was mostly post-Ill Communication tunes.

I love them. *sigh*

Ms Misery, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 13:41 (sixteen years ago) link

Beastie Boy fandom kills thread. :(

Ms Misery, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 14:08 (sixteen years ago) link

ack, is Oilyrags on this thread? I told you to email me and remind me if I forgot to send you NY State Mind. (which I obv. did.)

Ms Misery, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 14:09 (sixteen years ago) link

Thread still alive, don't worry! It was just suits and instruments for both. Walked in this morning to their older stuff. I think I'll be looking for Paul's Boutique then tidying house later!

I've not seen Oilyrags post. Who knows who lurks though.

kv_nol, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 14:33 (sixteen years ago) link

Ahhh, PB. My most favorite record of all time. I've longed tried to think of a track off there that I could request played at my funeral. I might just have to go with an instrumental.

Ms Misery, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 14:34 (sixteen years ago) link

"Shake Your Rump"

kv_nol, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 14:36 (sixteen years ago) link

My fave song by them is "Sureshot" though. Love the beginning, the middle and the end. It was v good live.

kv_nol, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 14:38 (sixteen years ago) link

"Looking Down the Barrel of a Gun" nah, too macabre.

I'd truly love "B-Boy Bouillabaisse" as that's my favorite. But it just might be too weird. Who knows, maybe I'll live to a ripe old age and my grandkids will just be thinking "Grandma sure was weird" instead of being offended like my older relatives probably would be.

Other than what I just mentioned, I think I'd be hard pressed to name a favorite track.

My fave song from the last tour was "Hello Brooklyn" from Bouillabaisse. They performed it at the Dallas show and the sound was incredible. The bass that started off the beginning shook every brick of the arena. It was hard to breathe and I was gleeful shouting along with every word. I've never heard them do that live and it was awesome. Sadly they did a different tune a couple of nights later in Detroit.

</stops killing thread>

Ms Misery, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 14:42 (sixteen years ago) link

You followed the tour? Fair fucks to you, I am still debating whether to go down to Galway on Saturday to follow Caribou. It is looking less and less likely as hangover kicks in!

kv_nol, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 14:44 (sixteen years ago) link

No, sadly not. The Dallas show just blew me away so I took the rent money, leased a car and took my brother on a breakneck non-stop drive to Detroit to see them. We literally arrived right before they played. It was fantastic.

That tour was so good I wished I had had the foresight to drive down to Austin to see them (was living in Dallas then.) Kicking myself.

I usually only see one show per tour but have still managed to see them, hmm, 13 times?

Ms Misery, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 14:47 (sixteen years ago) link

Okay, wow etc. That's pretty hardcore!

Delighted we agree re. Paul's Boutique.

kv_nol, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 15:11 (sixteen years ago) link

Hey! I HAS 2 FERRY RESERVATIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am getting off this rock! Two modest vacations planned:

First trip 9/15-through 9/19 and maybe longer (fuck cutting the trip short for Mr BP's family reunion) to Cambridge, where my niece's apt sits empty while she's on digs in Cyprus and Albania (she's an archeological draftsperson).

Second trip 9/26-9/30 to my sister's cabin in Brattleboro VT. I'm bringing a new-found distant cousin from Missoula to meet the VT relatives. We got in touch when she posted a query about our mutual great-grandfather's paintings on an art website. I wish we could stay longer, but Mr. BP has a time constraint.

Beth Parker, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 15:28 (sixteen years ago) link

Yay, vacation! Are you going straight from one to the other?

Ms Misery, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 15:29 (sixteen years ago) link

Almost. Have to come home and meet up with Missoula cousin, who's coming to the island first, on the 23rd.

Beth Parker, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 15:32 (sixteen years ago) link

I always forget how to act off-island. I treat red lights like stop signs. I stop, look around, and proceed when safe. Duh. No traffic lights here.

Beth Parker, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 15:33 (sixteen years ago) link

Better safe than sorry. Lots of idiots treat red lights like green lights.

Ms Misery, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 15:34 (sixteen years ago) link

Haha, I just got what you meant. Well, if you're proceeding safely I assume you're not going to cause an accident. But you might get a ticket.

Ms Misery, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 15:35 (sixteen years ago) link

I've driven right through them, too. I have to train myself to even see them.

Beth Parker, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 15:36 (sixteen years ago) link

Is there a waiver for people like me?

Beth Parker, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 15:36 (sixteen years ago) link

If there was it would probably involve surrendering your license. ;)

Ms Misery, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 15:40 (sixteen years ago) link

Well, time to hit the highways and byways of this quaint little island. Work still is a presence in my life, though a diminishing one.

Beth Parker, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 15:42 (sixteen years ago) link

I hope that is a good thing.

Ms Misery, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 15:43 (sixteen years ago) link

Old joke:

In Turin traffic lights are instructions.
In Rome are advice.
In Naples they are Christmas decorations.

kv_nol, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 15:55 (sixteen years ago) link

Ms Misery, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 15:55 (sixteen years ago) link

I was buying toys for the under seven set, thank you very much, at a proper toy store that allows kids in :)

That reminds me, when my brother was here we were on North Loop. I pointed to the Forbidden Fruit across the street and said, "You should go in there now that you're old enough. Come back here whenever you're done." Only took him about five minutes, and that includes crossing the street both ways. I should have been cruel and gone with him!

The Toy Joy bounty: A big bubble blowing kit for the neighbor's kid, a Spider-Man activity book for a friend's now oldest son, and a crinkly-squeaky-rattly caterpillar for the 36-hour-old youngest son.

Sam, the problem with volunteering at the animal shelter is that those animals need a home, and I am very weak. Left unchecked, I would have a menagerie. And I'd be dead because of my allergies!

patita, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 15:58 (sixteen years ago) link

Fair enough.

Facebook depresses me. I am officially depressed by facebook. I don't know what it is but I am saddened by seeing all these names from the past and thinking: "What's been going on with them?" and realising that I only care in a competitive way. That's just pathetic. I am going to stop going through friend lists to see who I recognise when someone contacts me.

What is Forbidden Fruit?

Beth. There should be a card before you go on hols. I'm trying to remember. Sorry again!

kv_nol, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 15:59 (sixteen years ago) link

dirty mind, etc, etc. I need new toys.

Also need desperately to make a toy joy trip.

aww, I know about wanting to adopt them but helping take care of them is good for you and them! Plus they have lots of bunnies there.

Ms Misery, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 16:01 (sixteen years ago) link

*Insert rampant rabbit joke here*

kv_nol, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 16:06 (sixteen years ago) link

Forbidden Fruit = nice sex toy shop where they have demo models out, staffed by very progressive people who are not afraid to ask you what kinds of things you like to put in your butt.

patita, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 16:17 (sixteen years ago) link

Yes, it was me you poked. I have poked you back. I cannot finds teh_kit though.

aldo, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 16:39 (sixteen years ago) link

It seems like Beth leaving the island should be an occasion for those flashing highway signs:

CAUTION 9/15/07-9/19/07
BETH PARKER OFF ISLAND
BE ALERT DON'T GET HURT
OFFER SHINY ROCKS/BEER

patita, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 19:28 (sixteen years ago) link

Not beer, if she's driving. Seems the red lights are enough for her.

Ms Misery, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 19:33 (sixteen years ago) link

I think the rocks would be more of a problem, concentration-wise!

patita, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 20:20 (sixteen years ago) link

Not beer—red wine, like the lights!
Kv-Nol, if you don't stop fretting about your postcard to me I'm going to send you another postcard, just so you can amuse us all with your DOUBLE FRETTING.

Beth Parker, Wednesday, 5 September 2007 00:24 (sixteen years ago) link

Beth--I was confused by your beer run for your son!

btw, I feel that I can rib you because there is a BOX headed your way.

should we all send kv_nol things so that he'll be awash in fret?

patita, Wednesday, 5 September 2007 00:30 (sixteen years ago) link

Yes!

Beth Parker, Wednesday, 5 September 2007 00:32 (sixteen years ago) link

I am excited re: box!

Beth Parker, Wednesday, 5 September 2007 00:33 (sixteen years ago) link

I can't wait to move into our new house. Just starting to have had quite enough of living in one room with the 4 of us -- although the view out the window is so nice and all. I had hoped we'd be in by Sept. but not all the windows and doors are trimmed yet, and there's still the final coat of paint (robin's egg blue in my bedroom) and flooring and appliances and toilets to install, etc., etc.
