"Swallowed" has aged surprisingly well. I still prefer Sixteen Stone to Nevermind (except for Polly), I guess I was two years too young for Nirvana to really hit me (but was just right for the pretenders to the throne).

this thread has become...cumbersome.

Don't get it twisted, Bill - it was ROCK RADIO'S FASCINATION W/ GRUNGE'S MESSIAH COMPLEX IN TOTO that paved the way for Creed.

I agree. And if it wasn't for DMX there'd be no Ja Rule, but I still enjoy "Get At Me Dog".

Beavis & Butt-head watching "I Alone" was pretty classic, where they're talking about how the drummer forgot to bring his sticks so he has to just run around like a jackass through the whole video.

Actually he had the sticks, but no drums, so he kind of air drummed with the sticks, I think.

he did!!! and the singer was bald with the one long braid in the back!

Are you sure you aren't thinking of INXS?

Jeff Reguilon (Talent Explosion), Wednesday, 16 March 2005 16:55 (nineteen years ago) link

He's thinking of Journey.

actually he had NOTHING. he just hopped around like a jackass in slo-mo mouthing along with the chorus. supposedly thought the video was really heavy and improved by seeing their reserved drummer go apeshit but Live has to rationalize a lot of idiocy to keep from blowing their heads off. Me and my sister used to count the amount of times Ed K. touches his head in that video. He clearly wasn't used to the bald pate.

miccio (miccio), Wednesday, 16 March 2005 20:18 (nineteen years ago) link

The hair growing back was UPSETTING him! He was trying to keep the hairs DOWN!

David R. (popshots75`), Wednesday, 16 March 2005 20:21 (nineteen years ago) link

Or he was stoned. My once clean-shaven pate was palmed by some stoned chicks in college. It was grooovy. Then I went back to reading High Society. Well, skimming, really. Almost sorta like ogling.

David R. (popshots75`), Wednesday, 16 March 2005 20:22 (nineteen years ago) link

the video was directed by Tim Pope.

i think it was plastic

That doesn't answer my question!

"Is it raining outside?" "No, I had spaghetti."

David R. (popshots75`), Wednesday, 16 March 2005 20:27 (nineteen years ago) link

no it was just the guys holding candles around the tree. there was no flaming tree. it was just a tree.

I still like "T.B.D." or whatever it was called. And I sort of still like "Operation Spirit."

And I still think they were an odd choice for that 120 Minutes tour with PIL, BAD II and Blind Melon. One of the weirdest packages tours ever, I think.

billstevejim, Thursday, 17 March 2005 03:36 (nineteen years ago) link

lol.
growing up in SC PA held enough Live as well as SE.
i managed to "see them" 3 times without really ever thinking about it, always played with other local acts i was there to see...

thankfully, little, if any, stuck.

Turns out I might have been wrong about this song.

Or at least that opening riff. It's awesome. The rest is still kinda dreadful. But wonderful? I dunno, it's terribly confusing.

this song is still classic. though this was right around the time 'tacked-on strings' was becoming a thing in alternative rock and while they worked effectively here, gtfo with that shit for the rest.

I liked this album, but Live really went to shit after this album, especially when they started putting out shit like "Heaven"

Ha, love this song. did my link to it in the drop D tuning thread remind you of it?

Me & Mahomies (Spottie_Ottie_Dope), Wednesday, 16 October 2013 04:19 (ten years ago) link

I don't remember a single song off this album (including the one the thread is made for), but I loved that dolphin song from the album that came next.

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 16 October 2013 04:21 (ten years ago) link

lol, at least I'm consistent:

I loved loved loved the first two albums and debut ep, but this song and its corresponding album were trash trash trash.

Of course, I like the single from the album after this one about the dolphins, so what the hell do I know?

Dolphin's Cry was hilarious but catchy, the rest of that album was a pile of poopy.

Spottie both your post and then a thread that was linked to in the Hail Hail Pearl Jam thread (two threads removed).

I feel like Ed Ed Kowalczyk seemed to think he was the fucking Yogi of alternative rock pseudo-spiritualism though

Neanderthal, Wednesday, 16 October 2013 04:24 (ten years ago) link

lol he got kicked out of the band a few years ago? awesome

Neanderthal, Wednesday, 16 October 2013 04:25 (ten years ago) link

hahaha wait, what?

they must be the most faceless band ever without that dude

Doctor Casino, Wednesday, 16 October 2013 05:03 (ten years ago) link

Are they still active without him? I thought it was just a case of them saying "fuck off" and then dissolving.

Live (/ˈlaɪv/, often typeset as LĪVE) is an American rock band from York, Pennsylvania, composed of Chad Taylor (lead guitar), Patrick Dahlheimer (bass), Chad Gracey (drums), and Chris Shinn (vocals). Live's original lead singer Ed Kowalczyk left the band in November 2009.

On November 30, 2009, Chad Taylor revealed that what had initially been termed a "two-year hiatus" was more likely the end of the band, due to what he felt were inappropriate and possibly illegal actions by Ed Kowalczyk,[5] which have resulted in a lawsuit being filed against him by the other three band members.[6] In June 2011, Taylor revealed that he, Gracey and Dahlheimer were to reform Live without Kowalczyk,[7] who confirmed that he would not work with the other three again.[8] In March 2012, Chris Shinn, formerly of the band Unified Theory, replaced Kowalczyk as lead singer.[9]

On January 24, 2012 Taylor, Dahlheimer and Gracey announced that they were leading members in a project to renovate a four story building at 210 York Street in York. Three floors will house a technology company, creating 60 new jobs. The building will also include a brand new recording studio.[17]

The band returned from their nearly three-year hiatus on March 12, 2012, with Chris Shinn, formerly of Unified Theory, as their new lead singer. The new line-up performed before an invited audience at the Strand-Capitol Performing Arts Center in York. The band performed as a six-piece with The Gracious Few's Sean Hennesy on guitar and Alexander Lefever on keyboards.[9][18] In July 2012, Live commenced more legal proceedings against Ed Kowalczyk, this time for misuse of the band's name while promoting his live performances.[19]
Live's first major tour with Shinn was as part of the Summerland Tour 2013, playing 35 shows across the US. Other featured bands were Everclear, Filter and Sponge.[20]

Doctor Casino, Wednesday, 16 October 2013 05:10 (ten years ago) link
