Look at the comments at any news article about the Wolfenstein ad campaign and you'll quickly see that it IS actually a bold move to take a stand against Nazis in 2017. which is all kinds of pathetic and scary.

Prolific and popular gaming forum NeoGAF (formerly the Gaming Age Forums, founded in 2006) is currently offline at the time of writing, and it might not be coming back this time.

In the wake of some very serious allegations of sexual harassment (captured here on Imgur, with names removed) levelled at site-owner Tyler 'Evilore' Malka, at least 11 site administration and moderation staff have stepped up and walked out in a show of solidarity with the accuser, taking many of the site's regular users with them.

The allegations against Malka carry additional weight, due to claims from the man himself, posted on NeoGAF back in 2012 that he has treated women in a far less-than-gentlemanly fashion. Joining the admin/moderation stuff, NeoGAF's community is scattering far and wide, with some other major games forums seeing mass sign-ups in the past few hours, with Waypoint in particular seeing a large number of arrivals welcomed with open arms.

huh. my wife lurked on that site. i told her about it and her reaction was "ugh, now am i going to have to go to ign to find out what's happening in gaming?"

weird yeah that was a big forum w lots of industry posters. it could be a very censorship heavy place, run by some power mad Holier Than Thou mods. towards the end it seemed to get more and more social justicey (the Weinstein stuff as well as a bunch of videogame-related stuff getting a lot of attention). of course this kind of thing would collapse such a place lol. out with the creeps.

fwiw i was permabanned from that place for reviving a 5 year old thread on Yoko Ono when i should have started a new one. no warning, just a ban w a smug message about getting rid of me forever.

always enjoyed the insane japanese game sales analysis threads. to be honest i can deal with an over modded holier than thou forum if i dont have to see most of the heinous shit thats on every other gaming forum.

Neogaf had its fair share of stupidity, but a sort of common decency as a basic norm meant it was far better than any other mega huge video games board. I used it, it was my place for news, I followed some discussions, contributed at times. That's unfathomable for reddit or ign boards or whatever.

Hope the dick in charge reads the situation and gives this thing over to someone else so I don't have to look at gaming communities.

lol xp ilx is like the only internet forum where reviving old threads is considered more polite than making new ones, everywhere else I've posted its considered something akin to trolling to bump a year+ old thread even if you mean well

I've always found that rule bizarre

same here. one of the reasons ilx is best, we try to minimize dupe threads and kill stickies almost altogether

Scrolling through long ilx threads can be hell to be honest, but I do like seeing the history of posts on smaller ones

Perhaps, but I'd wish instead we could give people a second chance? Or at least accept that when people are teenagers/YA's they say dumb stuff (which 100% of them) which cannot be carried after the person forever. Which is *not* to dismiss his remarks, at all, but the greediness in the search to nail people doesn't sit well with me either.

Malka (the guy implicated) has opened up neogaf again as a games-only forum, doubling down on his assholery and even checking people's personal messages to censor links to the new place. lol. That place is dead to any sensible user.

I think Nhex may have chosen one of the more awkward possible ways to convey the sentiment that “it is not surprising that women are not intimidated by competing or playing with men, considering how competitive women can be with each other”

This is also weird because isnt one of the sexist-git arguments about how many women gamers there are, is "no they just play mobile games, and those dont count!".

One quibble with that finding: I'm not sure that this statement is well-phrased:

"I would spend more time playing mobile games if I knew I was playing with or against players of my own gender"

It's ambiguous between "only players of my own gender" and "at least some players of my own gender". It's not clear that the 25%/47% are all saying that they would prefer to play exclusively with men.
