Bought this "granola" today that looks like flakes with round nuts inside but tastes like granola.

it's their version of bakery on main's granola. i am enamored with it
― maura, Sunday, 20 August 2017 23:20 (six years ago) link
buy their joe's choice medium roast coffee and it is good enough for me. i'm sure there is better coffee in the world but i am not willing to pay for it.
Tried this for the first time a couple months ago. Found it totally adequate and a dang nice price. Think it's a blend using part Vietnamese beans which I previously didn't even know existed

are we sure they aren’t actually selling bakery on main stuff? I mean, it’s TJ’s
― mh, Monday, 21 August 2017 01:52 (six years ago) link
oh yeah by "version of" i mean "rebranding of"

I can still gag on demand by recalling the time I tried TJ sushi
― rip van wanko, Sunday, 17 September 2017 21:54 (six years ago) link
how is it that their universally-despised sushi has outlived so many wonderful delicious discontinued products, what a world
― musically, Monday, 18 September 2017 00:09 (six years ago) link
i like the tofu spring rolls but yeah, would never do their sushi

Anyone had the mango sticky rice rolls?
― Josh in Chicago, Monday, 18 September 2017 02:50 (six years ago) link
Their organic peanut butter is not very good.
― o. nate, Monday, 18 September 2017 03:34 (six years ago) link
xp
I have, thought they were fairly good, but be careful, the mango takes on a napalm-like quality when it heats up.
― Moodles, Monday, 18 September 2017 03:44 (six years ago) link
Their sushi truly tastes like food poisoning
― just1n3, Monday, 18 September 2017 05:46 (six years ago) link
i'd imagine the sushi is popular among those who would also buy it at a deli
― maura, Monday, 18 September 2017 14:29 (six years ago) link
Do all the TJ's locations have sushi? I haven't looked, but that seems like a weird item for their distribution chain
I'm really skeptical of the grocery store sushi but the couple stores I've seen people buying it at actually have a guy who comes in for a few hours each day to prepare it, presumably traveling between stores throughout the day
― mh, Monday, 18 September 2017 14:44 (six years ago) link
I like whole foods sushi, but it costs as much as restaurant sushi. you can pick up other stuff while there, though. so it is good last resort sushi imo.

also they sell (albeit overpriced) sake
― mh, Monday, 18 September 2017 19:02 (six years ago) link
at WF, that is. can't remember if TJ's has sake
Just ate Whole Foods sushi, really quite good.
― Jeff, Monday, 18 September 2017 19:03 (six years ago) link
But I'm a soy sauce/wasabi slurry kind of guy, so you probably can't trust me.
hmmm. are you also a pickled ginger on top of the sushi guy?
― you are juror number 144 and we will excuse you (Sufjan Grafton), Monday, 18 September 2017 19:43 (six years ago) link
I'm not that much of a disgusting savage. Even I have my limits.
― Jeff, Monday, 18 September 2017 19:54 (six years ago) link
if you have leftover pickled ginger at the end of the meal, do you eat the whole stack at once?
not that I know anyone who would do such a thing
― mh, Monday, 18 September 2017 19:56 (six years ago) link
Only if it has a chunk of wasabi on it.
― Jeff, Monday, 18 September 2017 20:05 (six years ago) link
favoring victorian-style sushi ornamented with multiple sauces and "outrageous" insides (e.g. beef, jalapeno-fried things, etc.) is the greatest sushi crime, though this is a very "just watched jiro dreams of sushi" opinion to have. minor wasabi or ginger crimes are a good way to convince others that you are also gross, just less gross than the sauced up sushi eaters.

i've come around on junk-food rolls, but i still love the simple basics the best -sashimi, nigiri etc
― Squeaky Fromage (VegemiteGrrl), Monday, 18 September 2017 20:43 (six years ago) link
Long ago discovered I liked sushi (the rice) and wasabi (even fake) more than the raw fish, which means I can enjoy a huge sushi happy hour meal with vegetable rolls for not much money.
A local sushi restaurant makes "Teardrop Rolls" with real wasabi as the only filling. They have a customer for life.
― Special Egyptian Guest Star (Sanpaku), Monday, 18 September 2017 20:49 (six years ago) link
I just love allyl isothiocyanate, the pungent component of wasabi, horseradish, and mustard.
― Special Egyptian Guest Star (Sanpaku), Monday, 18 September 2017 20:51 (six years ago) link
wasabi is fantastic. a colleague regularly brings wasabi flavored stuff from hawaii into the office. they all give you the inhaled-water-through-your-nose feeling that is somehow enjoyable.
xxp i guess there's a distinction to be made between junk-food rolls on the menu at a typical sushi place and the comic sans "signature" rolls at somewhere like this place, which is way overpriced for junk-food rolls

none of those places are TJs nor do they sell wasabi (outside of their vile sushi portions) i am sad to report i can no longer live without a bag of their "cruciferous crunch" blend in my fridge at all timesi hate being dependent on TJs products but here i am

I had WF sushi for lunch thanks to this thread. Almost bought a beer to smuggle in to the office but decided not to. I usually get Vons (Safeway) sushi so I am stepping up my game by going to WF.

Yes! But I was thinking, for $9.39 there's a lot of other food I would like too.

That's my science fiction scenario: I attend one of those shows, and one of the figures looks very familiar. Then a series of events leads me to deduce the mystery of time travel, and it ends with me fleshless staring at myself with prosthetic eyes
