I dunno like I could just keep listing like 80% of successful long running comedy shows

Yeah, lots of sitcoms might have sketchy first seasons, and many peter out towards the end, but there's usually a significant sweet spot in the middle of several seasons.

especially on the morning after the episode aired, my god

confirmed: FWWM existed

mh, Monday, 14 August 2017 16:23 (six years ago) link

Uh it's a spoiler.

Anytime I see headlines about some band appearing in a Twin Peaks episode it's a spoiler. Stereogum's been doing this for every cameo since the season started.

billstevejim, Monday, 14 August 2017 16:41 (six years ago) link

It's def a spoiler. People who've already seen it know it happened already, so for them it's a useless article.

Le Bateau Ivre, Monday, 14 August 2017 16:46 (six years ago) link

yeah fuck you for spoiling a repurposed scene from the 1992 movie fire walk with me

thanks for describing it. i didn't click on the article in hopes that at least i would be in the dark about if it was new footage or old. so thank you for spoiling it in greater detail!

AdamVania (Adam Bruneau), Monday, 14 August 2017 16:48 (six years ago) link

you're welcome adam!!!!

ToddBonzalez (BradNelson), Monday, 14 August 2017 16:54 (six years ago) link

btw welcome to the internet!!!!

ToddBonzalez (BradNelson), Monday, 14 August 2017 16:55 (six years ago) link

that's a shitty attitude brad, for one thing the story went up last night right after the episode aired, and not everyone is able to watch it the night of. Bowie's appearance wasn't publicized, unlike other cameos they've mentioned (Sky Ferreira, Moby, Hudson Mohawke). also spoiling who's going to be in the nightclub credits sequence is not as bad as spoiling a pseudo-Bowie cameo.

flappy bird, Monday, 14 August 2017 17:01 (six years ago) link

and yeah, who is the story for? La Bateau Ivre otm, it's a useless story

flappy bird, Monday, 14 August 2017 17:03 (six years ago) link

it's weird bc i spoiled that particular scene for myself by accidentally reading a synopsis of episode 14 when it leaked last week

anyway i know my extremely spoiler-neutral stance is super unpopular so i'll back down

ToddBonzalez (BradNelson), Monday, 14 August 2017 17:05 (six years ago) link

imo "spoiler" means revealing some sort of plot revelation before people may have seen it, but I guess if you want to be pedantic it could mean revealing anything at all

mh, Monday, 14 August 2017 17:11 (six years ago) link

also i feel bad about describing the context and spoiling it further so i'm sorry adam (but regardless there's more to it than i described and you will still be surprised imo!)

that Bowie/TP thing is some pretty gutsy clickbait. total non-story. 25 year old movie footage of dead pop star shows up in new TV show for a few seconds, whoooaaa.

Did they do a story back when that character on Veronica Mars got a Pitchfork internship?

President Keyes, Monday, 14 August 2017 17:52 (six years ago) link

There is at least one Pitchfork review from the mid-2000s with the Veronica Mars' characters' name as the writer.

no prob! to be honest i was just kind of joshing cos i was so pissed at pitchfork. i went on the site sunday night and it was right there on the front page.

(but regardless there's more to it than i described and you will still be surprised imo!)

holy shit all episode was like this! i really loved the callback it was both literally "in memory" of Bowie and giving him props for being (in this case) 25 years ahead of his time =)

Songs like "I'm in Touch With Your World" and "Don't Cha Stop" are, to the say the least, not some of the best songs rock music has produced

the Rain Man of nationalism. (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Thursday, 17 August 2017 16:57 (six years ago) link

As we all know, the world's population of geeks had their two hours of glory last night when theaters everywhere opened their doors at midnight, letting millions of rabid fans in for the first full showings of "Star Wars, Episode One: The Phantom Menace."

this should be read in an old-timey newsreel voice.

nomar, Thursday, 17 August 2017 17:00 (six years ago) link

in the kind of voice that describes some idyllic scene, right before a great atrocity takes place

Let's face it-- the Cars had their moment in the sun. Sure, there a couple of die- hard fans still roaming the planet, making their own rock music and camping out for movie tickets, but it's a rare person that's willing to drop a Jefferson on a nicely remastered, beautifully repackaged, two- disc reissue of The Cars.

niels, Thursday, 17 August 2017 17:06 (six years ago) link

nomar, Thursday, 17 August 2017 17:08 (six years ago) link

lol p4k couldn't give a shit cos selling music is such an afterthought at this point.

who care about The Cars? but read this book by an ex-Pepsi asshole on marketing

AdamVania (Adam Bruneau), Thursday, 17 August 2017 23:24 (six years ago) link

"a Jefferson" means 2 dollars? Or a nickel?

Screamin' Jay Gould (The Yellow Kid), Thursday, 17 August 2017 23:39 (six years ago) link

Evan, Friday, 18 August 2017 14:39 (six years ago) link

It’s like some of these prestige television shows, with their slate-blue filters, expensive set pieces, and crisp dialogue. Such series are supremely well constructed, made by creators of great skill and taste, but there’s something lacking in the heart department, something a bit hollow. Painted Ruins, cursorily an album about battling demons, can feel a little like prestige music.

Burn. Funny that this year has seen music by Animal Collective, Dirty Projectors, Fleet Foxes, Arcade Fire and Grizzly Bear, pretty much all the 'prestige music' that p4k promoted about ten years ago, and only Fleet Foxes has gotten bnm'ed. And that album is AWFUL.

Frederik B, Friday, 18 August 2017 14:41 (six years ago) link

well I think it hurts more for p4k & many of their readers because 10 years ago all of those bands (fleet foxes aside, i never fucked w them) were making better records.
