RossThere is a rumor among Boston people on Twitter that David Price is faking his elbow hurting again so he doesn't have to pitch at Fenway tonight because he was apparently going to be booed for the Eckersley thing, and I would like your thoughts on this funny rumor.

Chris Sale comes off like a big dumb kid in the ESPN magazine feature I read waiting to get a hair cut a couple days ago. Funny thing is that there was like a couple people asked were they surprised that he cut up that jersey and pretty much all of them said 'no, not at all.' Heh.
At least by that article, what Eck did/said seems pretty mild compared to some stuff I have seen other home announcers say.

Mel: What degree of moral turpitude do you assign the Red Sox for their electronic sign stealing? Do you believe that Farrell did not know it was happening? Dave Cameron: No way Farrell didn’t know. In terms of moral turpitude, they broke the rules, they knew they were breaking the rules, and they did it anyway, so there’s some guilt here, but as far as infractions go, this isn’t that big a deal. Sign stealing isn’t even against the rules. It’s just the method they used that is problematic.
Bork: Heyman thinks the Red Sox should forfeit all their wins against the Yankees this year. What’s your hot take on punishment for the Red Sox? Dave Cameron: They should be forced to connect to an internet that only has Jon Heyman columns on it.

Chris Sale just got to 300 strikeouts in 209.1 innings. I was going to ask if that was the fastest to 300 k in a season but no, at the very least it looks like Pedro would have him beat (he had 313 Ks in 213.1 IP in 1999, so I'm sure he got there faster...)

gump:Curious as to what you meant by Boston being behind the curve: do you mean the team’s analysis isn’t as advanced as in the past, or that they aren’t being listened to as much as in the past. If it’s the second, care to guess how many playoff apps with no series wins Dombrowski makes before being let go?
Dave Cameron: Their analytics department has been one of the smallest, most underfunded in baseball for years, even before Dombrowski got there. When everyone else was staffing up, hiring developers, and modernizing their infrastructure, the Red Sox stayed put and got passed by.

― ice cream social justice (Dr Morbius), Wednesday, 11 October 2017 19:55 (six years ago) link
They're still winning division titles so if you subscribe to "my shit doesn't work in the playoffs" then they're still doing most things right.
DD inherited Farrell from the Cherington regime and probably just wants to hire his own guy (whoever that might be). Losing in the first round two straight years gives him the perfect excuse to make a move.
