When me and sgs were sorting out her visa to stay in the UK we compiled loads of stuff to prove our relationship - photos, air tickets, letters, you name it - and they didn't look at a single document. It was purely the compulsory residency documents (in our case) that they cared about.

You still should take pics of yourselves and save love letters for the grandkids.

Ed, do you not have working privileges on a student visa? CMU should be able to help with directing you, they must have office in London or something.

You can get working privileges but the default is not to have them and if you get them the restriction is to campus work only limited to 20 hrs a week, it is harder to get more general working rights. Of course they will help it is just more difficult.

Tza, was she beating things up with an umbrella-ella?

Sara, don't let school kill you. We would miss you.

she was at the show i saw. she was ushered in and out just as the lights dropped/came up each time. lots of girls were screamy. there were paparazzi. she seriously did not crack a smile the whole time. poss too drugged to do so? i wish she'd done something more exciting!!

I can imagine such a fuss following you everywhere you went would make you unlikely to smile. Especially if you're borderline crazy. (Speaking as someone who is borderline crazy.)

no i mean, she was unresponsive to the show when sitting in the dark with no one bothering her and nothing to do but watch/enjoy it.

What show was it? Maybe she was on tranqs.

in the heights: very high energy, funny, etc.

side note: i met a dude at karaoke last summer who told me he was a dancer in in the heights and i thought he was full of shit (this may also be because i congratulated him on the tony and he seemed confused, and also because he told me i reminded him of his wife... but he had an unmarried, identical twin brother i should meet). turns out he wasn't - he is like, dance captain! lol. he was good!

highly theoretical, of course. (tehresa), Wednesday, 1 October 2008 13:36 (fifteen years ago) link

oh nm i just looked he is not dance captain but oddly seemed to be featured more prominently than the captain listed...

I had a completely insane dream last night of Sarah Palin entering the debate ring as a figure skater, wowing the crowd in her spangly pink uniform and performing beautiful skating tricks. In my dream she then took a horrible fall on these skates.

I kind of like this dream, as it seems to me the perfect metaphor for what has happened to her over the last month.

That being said, get the hell out of my dreams, Sarah Palin. You're not welcome here.

I finished my "reflection" on my clinical experience. Now on to cramming for tomorrow night's test. Soooooooo sad that I'm going to be stuck in class during veep debate madness. Everyone must enjoy (or not) the event for me.

so if any of you are netflix friends with me and not hardcore horror fans, you can ignore my high rating for "Midnight Meat Train".

still though, directed by Ryuhei Kitamura, straight to exclusive Fear.net on demand movie release :(

oh sorry, the release plan for this was actually much, much worse:

On its official North American release to cinemas, the film opened in 102 discount theatres, also called "dollar theatres" for their very low admission prices, rather than at regular first-run cinemas with normal ticket prices, which was a factor in its poor opening weekend box-office earnings.

proving once again that lionsgate can compete with the best of them when it comes to fucking themselves over through marketing

sara i feel your pain! i am going to get out of class too late to make it anywhere in time for the debate, and i have a birthday deal to go to as well. will have to watch it on youtube or something this weekend.

highly theoretical, of course. (tehresa), Thursday, 2 October 2008 13:01 (fifteen years ago) link

If I had to choose one person of all the people I know who would watch a movie with a title like "Midnight Meat Train," it would have been you, John. It would have been you.

I think I will probably come home after class and hopefully find the debate streaming online. The problem is that I'll be hungry and I'm not sure I can stomach eating while watching Palin's image or hearing her voice.

My work computer, I hate it so

I tried to open Outlook 20 minutes ago and Windows has been frozen ever since; I can manipulate any windows or applications I had open but the desktop is hosed and I can't open anything new. Thank God my phone has Internet.

Remember this, everyone -- at least you're not the mayor of Arkansas City, Kansas:

The mayor of a Kansas town appeared in blackface as part of a drag-queen beauty contest but apologized after a meeting with NAACP officials.

Arkansas City Mayor Mel Kuhn won the weekend fundraiser, in which he appeared in dark makeup and used a vulgar reference to female genitalia as his character name. The fundraiser was for Court Appointed Special Advocates, which supports foster children.

I like my work computer for having two screens which nicely accomodate my scatty brain.

Go0 g1e bought me (and colleagues) a LOT of drinks last night. For which I was thankful at the time but over the course of today have come to resent them. Sleeeeeeeep.

Groth said she was unaware of what the character's name meant until a reporter explained it.

"I never heard that word," Groth said. "But I understand exactly what you're saying, and I'm mortified of it."

OKAY WHAT WAS HIS NAME???

http://bumpshack.com/2008/10/03/mayor-mel-kuhn-wins-drag-queen-contest-in-blackface/

Arkansas City, Kansas mayor Mel Kuhn found himself amid a heap of controversy after dressing in drag and blackface at a fundraiser for CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates). Mel performed as the character “Smellishis Poon” and actually won the contest. His backup dancers were the “Red Hot Puntangs.”
