Terrified laughter in the face of the void is sometimes the only way to avoid succumbing to its crushing, annihilistic weight. We bang the cymbals to avoid the finality of making that leap.

Aaaah I gotta get my covfefe post in before the est noon becomes high - what if someone snatched his phone away from him mid-tweet and smashed it into thousands of tiny pieces and that's why he didn't correct it

Karl Malone, Wednesday, 31 May 2017 15:46 (six years ago) link

holy fuck everyone reacting like a fucking tambourine monkey to Trump's typo makes me want to jump out of a building.

it's been painfully unfunny all day - it's a typo. big fucking deal. even trump laughed at himself about it, that's how innocuous it is, the greatest manchild in the world can even brush it off.

Bein' Sean Bean (LocalGarda), Wednesday, 31 May 2017 15:48 (six years ago) link

i don't suppose american ilxors had to deal with being in a meeting at 3pm and a co-worker painfully, didactically relaying the story of donald trump's tweet and the subsequent memes. seriously more than anyone should be expected to tolerate, i had to think of myself on a beach on holiday in a few weeks to stop myself from screaming.

What's not funny = that "President's Daily Brief" that looked like a kids' menu and all the other jokes that hinge on comparing him to a small child

I found a copy of the President's Daily Briefing:

President Manchild was almost certainly not the party responsible for the follow-up tweet. He's probably working himself into a frothing rage over the laughter his typo has generated. Hell, I could see his spite over the matter being the deciding factor in pulling out of the Paris accord. 'Laugh at me, huh? I'll show those little SOBs.'

Covfefe the Strong / the Wizard Covfefe was funny

yeah tbf this was funny. an entire day of gloating and celebration like as if it's some national festival - that was unfunny. but i guess we should give up expecting the liberal half of twitter not to feverishly promote and boost the range of the figures we're all supposed to hate.

Bein' Sean Bean (LocalGarda), Wednesday, 31 May 2017 15:59 (six years ago) link

It went without mention here, but that Onion leak of some 200+ documents does hide a few gems. I liked the running joke in the Steve Bannon and Ben Carson files.

it's just locker room treason (Sanpaku), Wednesday, 31 May 2017 16:03 (six years ago) link

Old Lunch I 100% agree with your assessment. I think Kal Penn's thing where he imagines Bannon, Kishner and Spicer playing "not it" over who gets to tell Trump he passed out during a tweet is almost exactly what happened, albeit with several more staffers also abdicating responsibility.

There is a tedious new Rebecca Solnit piece doing the rounds that could easily be x-posted to the Annoying Stuff on Facebook thread

Chuck_Tatum, Wednesday, 31 May 2017 16:14 (six years ago) link

I think that tweet tells us a lot. It didn't stand for 5 hours because Trump got interrupted by his advisors during a crisis or because someone took his phone away. And it's disturbing not only because of the garbled letters, but because it's also an incomplete thought. I guess you could argue that he's suffering from jet lag or extreme exhaustion, but on a level where he can't even finish a tweet before nodding off? Do we have to start worrying about Alzheimer's? Even if it's just carelessness it's pretty extreme. Whatever it is, it's fucked up

god yeah, this piece really bothered me. it's just a series of faintly literary insults - and it went on and on. it's also incredibly pompous, as if the author has never been anything other than self-aware at all times. some of the "obliviousness" it describes is just the basic human condition.

One other thing to add to the covfefe hypothesis: if his wife was actually around, she could have noticed him nodding off and told him to put the goddamn phone down. But she hates his fucking guts.

El Tomboto, Wednesday, 31 May 2017 16:21 (six years ago) link

if trump's typo tells us that much about him, just think about what we can we learn from grassley's twitter!

I like Rebecca Solnit but she is wrong to think Trump ever expected his lifelong rivals, Manhattan snobs, to stop mocking him when he became president. He knows he is widely mocked, as much as he can be said to know anything. He thrives on it.
