Minor details!

seems like a little bit more evidence every day of attempted obstruction of justice. I'm really curious where this story is going to go from here

i hope Kushner heads to the clink. also, i hope Sessions has to resign in disgrace. which is probably more of a pipe dream than Trump serving any time.

constitutional crises they fly at u face (will), Monday, 22 May 2017 22:52 (six years ago) link

anything that gets rid of sessions would be dope

jason waterfalls (gbx), Monday, 22 May 2017 22:54 (six years ago) link

well i'm looking forward to Trump's pre-resignation moment of respectability, cf Nixon in China. like maybe he'll open a golf course in Iraq or gently rebuke Tila Tequila for a Nazi meme.

the post literally describes it as "a growing body of evidence" in that story

I'm just gonna keep making this prediction: Trump bros down w Kim Jong-Un

Οὖτις, Monday, 22 May 2017 23:00 (six years ago) link

I'm also curious whether or not Trump and Sessions are going to try to prevent Mueller from investigating Kushner using Code of Federal Regulations, which restricts newly hired government lawyers from investigating their prior law firm’s clients for one year after their hiring (now two years as per Trump's executive order, apparently). A Reuters report a few days ago said they were exploring it

spud called maris (darraghmac), Monday, 22 May 2017 23:20 (six years ago) link

yeah, how is this not jail-worthy exactly?

"Trump made separate appeals to the director of national intelligence, Daniel Coats, and to Adm. Michael S. Rogers, the director of the National Security Agency, urging them to publicly deny the existence of any evidence of collusion during the 2016 election."

scott seward, Tuesday, 23 May 2017 03:22 (six years ago) link

but I'll be surprised if *nobody* goes to jail for this

yes, because rich white collar criminals have such a rich history of getting actual jail time

Wouldn't want to be in Flynn's shoes right now. But I have an ominous feeling the "Russia thing" is not actually going to sink Trump. Is there going to be any evidence of obstruction of justice apart from one-on-one conversations that Trump can deny? As for collusion, why would the Russians be so dumb, they didn't need to collude to give Trump a helping hand. The investigation will pull up some stuff but nothing directly linked to Trump personally, and it won't be enough to force him out, is my feeling

Zelda Zonk, Tuesday, 23 May 2017 03:41 (six years ago) link

He can't easily deny things he admitted to on national television.

Treeship, Tuesday, 23 May 2017 03:43 (six years ago) link

dunno, seems to come pretty easily to him

j., Tuesday, 23 May 2017 03:44 (six years ago) link

This is a political issue now not a legal one. He obstructed justice, whether or not he is guilty of "collusion." There is enough there for impeachment but the Republicans won't assent to it.. yet

Treeship, Tuesday, 23 May 2017 03:46 (six years ago) link

He obstructed justice, but you've got to prove it. Will one-on-one conversations stand up legally when one side denies? Even on television, what's he admitted to? That when he was deciding to fire Comey, he was thinking that the Russia thing was made up. Pretty damning, but the link between the two remains implicit rather than explicit in what he says. He never said outright I fired Comey because of Russia. That leaves legal wiggle room I'd have thought

Zelda Zonk, Tuesday, 23 May 2017 03:52 (six years ago) link

if there's one thing Trump is known for, it's being able to make controversy go away swiftly with smooth talk and southern charm.

Bio-Digital Jezza (kingfish), Tuesday, 23 May 2017 04:33 (six years ago) link

Is there going to be any evidence of obstruction of justice apart from one-on-one conversations that Trump can deny?

When it is discovered that Trump has ordered that all tapes be destroyed of his conversations with various officials, during which conversations he is specifically alleged to have suborned obstruction of justice, then we will have solid evidence of obstruction of justice, because such an order destroying evidence would be illegal in itself.

A is for (Aimless), Tuesday, 23 May 2017 04:42 (six years ago) link

Are there any tapes though? The last thing on earth that we should take at face value is a Trump tweet. With the White House leaking like a sieve, I'd have thought we'd have had some more info by now about any tapes if they really existed.

Zelda Zonk, Tuesday, 23 May 2017 04:59 (six years ago) link

if there's anybody that will know of the existence of secret White House tapes, it's ILE

Charles "Butt" Stanton (Neanderthal), Tuesday, 23 May 2017 05:04 (six years ago) link

One day, Donald Trump is going to look a reporter straight in the eyes on national TV and say "I never ran for President."
