currently we're looking at a likely scenario of the GOP losing the House, which would mean impeachment proceedings that would then die in the Senate. Things could change, of course.

these guys don't do long-term planning. well, McConnell does I guess. But impeaching him with votes from his own party won't really do any good for their legislative agenda either - it will be an admission of defeat

any republican senator who votes to remove trump from office is killing their future senatorial prospects dead. i'm not saying we won't get to the point where 20 or so republicans are willing to never eat lunch in dc again in order to get rid of him, but they have a pretty strong disincentive to throw the bum out.
