FWIW none of the people who have let their minds wander down the path of "would Pence be worse?" have advocated going soft on Trump. It's all just speculative now anyways. NOBODY is saying that impeachment should be taken off the table, or opposed because self-pwning clownpotus is politically advantageous. AFAICT people are just gaming out scenarios while waiting for shoes to drop.

i realize republicans have perfected deliberate blindness to popular political realities, but i'm not sure why we have to suppose that they'd be able to get much done if one of them succeeded to office upon a house-cleaning. trump already lost the popular vote, a lot of people in office are likely to be directly or indirectly (through condoning this garbage for cynical reasons) tarred by involvement or association, and there will be a fairly strong anti-GOP sentiment hanging over the country. the pressure to 'work with democrats' would seem to be at an all-time-high under those conditions, if any

I can't say I'm shocked or surprised by anything other than the speed at which wheels are falling off the car. I expected more staff turnover, diplomatic gaffes, insider reports of ignorance, incompetence, and angry rage, but I mostly expected 45 to play figurehead while Pence pushed his Christian dominionist agenda covertly.
