Dude he is a demented psychopath and likely a rapist who gets his news from infowars. He ran an openly xenophobic presidential campaign, peppered with conspiracy theories, that kindled a new white nationalist movement. He is so much worse than the blue blazered granny starving brigade, whose appeal is drying up anyway.

whose appeal is drying up anyway.

is it?

Now he is all cornered and irrational too. The potential downsides of this situation are impossible to fathom now, only four months in.

Trump is the culmination of every dickweed who's been in the Congress and Oval Office since 1981.

Pence is different only in that he breathes through his ears and knows 18 English words.

i dunno, pence seems to hate women at a 90th percentile level relative to his GOP colleagues, maybe even more, and the average republican hates the shit out of women.

Karl Malone, Wednesday, 17 May 2017 01:07 (seven years ago) link

who hates women more is a really terrible metric for determining legitimacy of a president

remember when the narrative was "LOL we shouldn't root against Trump winning the primary! him running is better for us, he'll enjoy the GOP"?

Trump has got to be jealous of Putin, who can do all the shit he does but gets away with it. (And can't figure out why.)

Josh in Chicago, Wednesday, 17 May 2017 01:12 (seven years ago) link

also does anybody really think the stink of Trump POST-impeachment wouldn't deal the GOP lasting damage? this isn't "LOL Trump will ruin the GOP by running", this is "their President became the first President in history to be forcibly removed from office", cos, y'know he isn't going to do the Nixon and resign

That's the exact reason you shouldn't be living with a live CNN feed being injected into your brain. The GOP wouldn't risk hurting themselves in 2018 or 2020 no matter what.

hasn't half the thread said any "impeachment" won't likely happen until after 2018? who are we reacting to here other than G-Treezy

Charles "Butt" Stanton (Neanderthal), Wednesday, 17 May 2017 01:27 (seven years ago) link

Treeship is right, of course.

FWIW none of the people who have let their minds wander down the path of "would Pence be worse?" have advocated going soft on Trump. It's all just speculative now anyways. NOBODY is saying that impeachment should be taken off the table, or opposed because self-pwning clownpotus is politically advantageous. AFAICT people are just gaming out scenarios while waiting for shoes to drop.

leprechaundriac (Ye Mad Puffin), Wednesday, 17 May 2017 01:28 (seven years ago) link

i realize republicans have perfected deliberate blindness to popular political realities, but i'm not sure why we have to suppose that they'd be able to get much done if one of them succeeded to office upon a house-cleaning. trump already lost the popular vote, a lot of people in office are likely to be directly or indirectly (through condoning this garbage for cynical reasons) tarred by involvement or association, and there will be a fairly strong anti-GOP sentiment hanging over the country. the pressure to 'work with democrats' would seem to be at an all-time-high under those conditions, if any

It's kind of remarkable how the Trump presidency has proceeded more or less exactly as many predicted it would, and yet ... still remains constantly shocking and surprising.

There was no way to predict Trump would act like this in office except for everything he'd ever done his entire life

Supercreditor (Dr Morbius), Wednesday, 17 May 2017 01:45 (seven years ago) link

Worth noting, yet again, that the hot water Trump finds himself in is not due to his venality but rather his self-defeating stupidity. Imagine the kind of success one could attain with the breaks he's been given. And yet he always finds a way to slam his dick in the drawer.

the Rain Man of nationalism. (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Wednesday, 17 May 2017 01:47 (seven years ago) link

I can't say I'm shocked or surprised by anything other than the speed at which wheels are falling off the car. I expected more staff turnover, diplomatic gaffes, insider reports of ignorance, incompetence, and angry rage, but I mostly expected 45 to play figurehead while Pence pushed his Christian dominionist agenda covertly.

Tbf, that speed is exactly what I would expect from both the worst person and worst president ever.
