Better Star Wars analogy is killing Darth Vader and leaving Palpatine in power.

the best case scenario is Trump serves the full term imo

the usa would not have any allies left by 2020

this is also fine by me on its own, what good has US influence abroad served lately

With Trump resignation/impeachment/XXVa.4, many Trump diehards will be sour to vote in 2018. Perhaps more than the Blue would lose from "normal" midterm disinterest.

what i'm thinking is that chances of impeachment are very low anyway. so why focus on that?

Van Horn Street, Wednesday, 17 May 2017 00:33 (seven years ago) link

there are seats to be won first and foremost. i think as the opposition, this is should be priority.

Ex Trump comms director Jason Miller spinning on CNN, says Comey's "little diary" about his meetings with Trump is "a little bit weird."

If that's the best Trump's defenders have got, well, the president is pretty badly screwed. https://t.co/s1YwoNbjwn

if I understand correctly you need 2/3rds of senate to impeach, right? can you imagine, right now, the Dems getting 2/3rds of senate?

love how so many ITT seem to think an unhinged animal of a President is someone to endure for 4-8 years instead of a shitty but less criminally insane successor that probably won't get us nuked til we mutate into three-dicked aliens

I wish you guys had it like we do in Aus where, when polls tank cos a PM is doing shit, the party just knifes them and installs a more popular twat.

this is uh a little different in that it looks like we have solid EVIDENCE of Trump doing something illegal and impeachable, not just the smoke around the fire

Trump's continuing to stay in office is not in the Republicans' best interest though.

maybe. i'm not sure it's that clear cut, which is why we haven't seen en masse abandonment of trump after the numerous previous dumb things he's done. as shitty as he is, he was apparently a more appealing candidate to their base than any of the blowhards that gave it a shot during the primary. if the GOP leadership are seen as turning against him about 4 months into his presidency, there's a gigantic idiotic chunk of the country that will blame everything on mcconnell and company.

disagree with the fury. there'sANECDOTAL reporting by a vendetta-wielding spook of Trump ostensibly saying some of his normal asinine shit. it's more of the same smoke, and he'll backpedal as usual until the next scandal comes past.

remy bean, Wednesday, 17 May 2017 00:52 (seven years ago) link

Even if it's not deemed to be impeachment level, it (a) Cock-blocks the Trumpgenda somewhat. and (b) When he's angry and frustrated he lashes out ever more impulsively, raising the likelihood that he WILL do or say something that crosses the line for a lot more people.

Trump's continuing to stay in office is not in the Republicans' best interest

^that's the calculation upon which the Trump administration will live or die. the worry level among congressional republicans over their own futures just kicked up several notches today to where they are visibly sweating.

A is for (Aimless), Wednesday, 17 May 2017 00:55 (seven years ago) link

pretty obvious point, but this is also reaaaally early on to be speculating about impeachment. it would probably be good to wait at least, you know, 8 or 10 hours, possibly even a full day to gauge the likely response of out noble political leaders

Dude he is a demented psychopath and likely a rapist who gets his news from infowars. He ran an openly xenophobic presidential campaign, peppered with conspiracy theories, that kindled a new white nationalist movement. He is so much worse than the blue blazered granny starving brigade, whose appeal is drying up anyway.

is it?
