Comey: (sheepishly) O, nevermind. I was just foolin' around.

Minor details:

http://abcnews.go.com/Blotter/trumps-disclosure-endangered-spy-inside-isis-israel-officials/story?id=47449304

The life of a spy placed by Israel inside ISIS is at risk tonight, according to current and former U.S. officials, after President Donald Trump reportedly disclosed classified information in a meeting with Russian officials last week.

The spy provided intelligence involving an active ISIS plot to bring down a passenger jet en route to the United States, with a bomb hidden in a laptop that U.S. officials believe can get through airport screening machines undetected. The information was reliable enough that the U.S. is considering a ban on laptops on all flights from Europe to the United States.

The sensitive intelligence was shared with the United States, officials say, on the condition that the source remain confidential.

“The real risk is not just this source,” said Matt Olsen, the former Director of the National Counterterrorism Center and an ABC News contributor, “but future sources of information about plots against us.”

my daughter was asking me what if Pence was also implicated/guilty of something involving Trump and I wasn't sure how that would work (can the vice president be impeached?) Shit, maybe if they both go down we'll finally get PRESIDENT RYAN

Οὖτις, Tuesday, 16 May 2017 23:18 (seven years ago) link

These people are so stupid that Krauthammer comes off a smart man merely by pointing out that job preservation and naked self-interest are precisely why Comey might not have resigned.

the Rain Man of nationalism. (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 16 May 2017 23:18 (seven years ago) link

can the vice president be impeached?

yes. The discussion arose when Agnew was caught with money in the drawer. He resigned before anything happened.

the Rain Man of nationalism. (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 16 May 2017 23:19 (seven years ago) link

ah thx yeah I knew Agnew resigned and why but I didn't recall any impeachment talk

Οὖτις, Tuesday, 16 May 2017 23:21 (seven years ago) link

I assume Pence will resign too. He was shown to have been untruthful about what he knew about Flynn.

President Ryan would suck but I don't imagine a shamed Republican Party will be able to advance their agenda.

Treeship, Tuesday, 16 May 2017 23:21 (seven years ago) link

Pence was at least untruthful about knowing about Flynn way before he admitted to.
Not sure what else he's done but hoping he goes too, though President Ryan would not be good.
Hoping all of the Trump appointees spend long years in jail or die painfully. Though dragging out the pain would be so much better, innit?

Stevolende, Tuesday, 16 May 2017 23:22 (seven years ago) link

lol what if proceedings begin > Dems win House in 2018 > Trump and Pence both impeached = PRESIDENT NANCY

Οὖτις, Tuesday, 16 May 2017 23:23 (seven years ago) link

I would think the odds of impeachment proceedings coming to fruition before the 2018 election are p slim

but who knows shit is moving super-fast!

Ryan is deeply unpopular. He'd be an embattled, despised president for three years -- our country could weather if better than we can a maniac with a cult following.

Treeship, Tuesday, 16 May 2017 23:24 (seven years ago) link

Didn't Pence tell Trump he thought he should fire Comey? I guess that in and of itself doesn't make him an accessory, unless he knew the intent was to stifle the Russia thing?

Comey and team are flooding the zone. Over at Politico

http://www.politico.com/story/2017/05/16/trump-comey-flynn-shutdown-238467

"It's very rich in detail and hopefully it will come out soon,” the friend of Comey, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told POLITICO. "There are other memos about his meetings too. He wrote down every word Trump said to him as soon as he could."

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 16 May 2017 23:30 (seven years ago) link

haha no way. they'd have to drag him out of there. which, fuck, they just might.

President Ryan would suck but I don't imagine a shamed Republican Party will be able to advance their agenda.

they'd keep trucking on like nothing happened (as long as they have a majority). those guys do not give a fuck. and Ryan would be "clean".

why would you assume any of this? no one is resigning without being forced out. you think mitch mcconnell cares that you think he's a hypocrite? neither do any of these other dudes

Ryan would actually be the wettest dream for GOP POTUS

constitutional crises they fly at u face (will), Tuesday, 16 May 2017 23:44 (seven years ago) link

assuming the repubs hold the line no matter what - which is looking pretty likely, given how good they are at it - I see nothing good coming from President Ryan or Pence, whereas the sheer shame of 4 years of Trump would help to more effectively tarnish the repub brand for a long time. plus it trashes the sanctity of the office and other commonly held assumptions about "electability" or whatever which is also good and helpful imo
