there is no poll option for "inherited a CD from a housemate who left it in my CD player once & proceeded to occasionally play the kinda dub track about looting musical equipment during the LA riots & yeah, I probably still have it tucked away in a CD book somewhere."

Just remembered an interview with the surviving members in While You Were Sleeping mag. One of them referred to their interviewers - a pair of petite blondes - as "spinners".

One of the few bands I have any real hatred for, surely related to both the sheer number of people I knew who thought that dude was some sort of genius and a particular ex-girlfriend's love of the band. Not the best reasons I know but what can you do...

Yeah, these results are baffling to me. Everyone I knew had a Sublime album, even the dorkz.
The fish'n'chips contingent must be strong in this one.

~~~~~GMan Auctions~GMan Auctions~GMan Auctions~GMan Auctions~~~~~Whats up Y'ALL? I'm "BACK IN BLACK"...
and I'm KICKIN' it into HIGH GEAR right here!!!!Let's get back to the business of:..."ALL SUBLIME ALL THE TIME".....A fool went ahead and dug into the vaults to bring you one of THE most sought after "sublime" collectables around!IT'S THE LONG OOP, "CASSETTE" RELEASE FROM THE BAND THAT THEY CALL"sublime"KNOWN AS THE:.....!!!! BLACK !!!!.....
FIRST PRESS
"40 oz. to Freedom"
cassette!
_____________________________________________________________________________________
..... SOOOOO RARE !! .....
_____________________________________________________________
Having said that,....Let's have a look at this Bad Boy!!,...Time's a wastin'!!.....P.S. Click on ANY of my pictures to get the SUPERSIZED view...
***By the way,....There is no "barcode" to be found on this cassette; as they were never sold in stores. These are the "Trunk of their cars" cassettes !! Sublime gave these out at shows,.. to Bros, Music Shops, Sold them at gigs or where ever they could, etc. !! ******THIS CASSETTE RELEASE WAS MADE PRIOR TO THE "CD" PRESSING OF "40 oz. to Freedom" & I HAVE HEARD THAT IT WAS A LIMITED PRESSING OF 250 MADE!!!!!!!!***Check this sucka out.....SICK, TO SAY THE VERY LEAST!!!Check this sh*t out!!!....
**I don't think that I really need to go on about how cool (Or RARE!!) this cassette is,..just the fact that it's sublime and from 1992', speaks for itself, however I will tell you this......
**These cassettes were mostly handed out at shows with the exception of some being given to friends, family, etc.,...and I don't know about you,...but if you were at a sublime show back then, you know what I mean when I tell you that not a lot of these "survived"!Take a look for yourself at the CLOSE-UPS of this cassette!
....Absolutely CRAZY!!, huh?..A little story for Ya'll....
*** This little gem was made by the guys right around the time that they also released the "40 oz." CD, but the killer thing that is on this cassette, THAT WAS/IS NOT ON ANY PRESSING OF THE 40 oz. CD,....is the ***infamous "EXTENDED THANX"!!!***
(As you know, this is at the end of the cassette, BUT, I'm not talking about the "Thanx Dub" from "Second Hand Smoke".)
***The "EXTENDED THANX" are WAY longer & highly sought after by any sublime collector!!!.....*** This cassette also has the INFAMOUS "Misprint Address" (As it is known by collectors.) of "996 Redondo" , Not sublime's correct address of "966 Redondo" !!!.... Can anyone say: "Bong Load !!??...They forgot THEIR OWN ADDRESS!!!....Purely Sublime~~!!...And, Finally,...**This cassette contains the Original version of "Get Out", as well as "Rawhide" after "Date Rape"!!
...................................................................
**Another cool thing here (and RARE),.... There is NO BARCODE anywhere to be found on the cassette!...Which means that they didn't sell them in stores... These are the cassettes that were sold by the guys at shows & given away to friends, etc.!! The "Second" pressing of this cassette has a barcode right on the front of the J-Card. "Skunk Records" is all you see here....
Also,... With the previous cassette releases from sublime..."c003" & "Jah Won't Pay The Bills", the members of "sublime" were listed as: Brad, Bud, & Eric.The names on the Original "40 oz." cassette, however, are not Brad, Bud, and Eric,...rather it has the guys listed as: Texas, Cricket, The Yellow Lover (on Drums); as Bud was in rehab & Kelly Vargas & Marshall contributed most of the drumming on the album.**This cassette is a MUST for any true hardcore fan of sublime, and if you are just starting,...sh*t,....you couldn't start your collection with a better piece of history!!!This cassette is in absolutely PERFECT shape; & IT'S 18 YEARS OLD!!!NOW, for the TRACK LIST (As if you don't know it!!)....Side1:# Waiting For My Ruca# GET OUT!# 40oz. To Freedom# Smoke Two Joints# We're Only Gonna Die For Our Arrogance# Don't Push# 5446 That's My Number / Ball And Chain# Badfish# Lets Go Get Stoned# New Thrash# Scarlet BegoniasSide 2:# Live At E's# D.J.s# Chica Me Tipo# Right Back# What Happened# New Song# Ebin# Date Rape# RAWHIDE (Hidden)# Hope# Krs-One# Rivers Of Babylon# THANX (EXTENDED!!!)**I only have ONE extra of these, so bid away,...but please don't bid if you can't come up the cash.Thanks!!.
..... A FIRST PRESSING SUBLIME CASSETTE IN PERFECT CONDITION AFTER ALL THESE YEARS!!?? .....
..... What Are You Waiting For??!! .....
sometimes i sub for a friend's band that plays mostly covers for a college crowd. most of it is cool (blackstreet, phil collins, jay-z) but i kind of hate him for making me learn three sublime songs after all these years (never had a cd btw). at least the beats are pretty fun to play.
Anytime I go to a karaoke bar and see "What I Got" appear on the television screen, I know I don't like the guy holding the microphone.
their drummer was probably the absolute worst drummer to play on any hit song in the 90s.
I remember performing Date Rape at karaoke night and getting dagger eyes from everybody in the audience.
Sublime had some good songs but the ones they were most famous for were just real fucking boring. if I'd give them a genre it'd be "brocore"
― Usain Bolt Cola (Cattle Grind), Thursday, 25 March 2010 23:54 (fourteen years ago) link
really, why? i've only heard the singles but the beat to santeria doesn't suck.
can't believe i'm arguing about the drummer of sublime in 2010.
i did
but a lot of strange shit went down in the 90s
My thoughts are often haunted at by remembering the girl in my 12th grade history class who did a pretty good video project on famed 1920's aviator Charles Lindbergh, which was all Ken Burns-style black and white footage and sepia tone photos until the end credits where it was vintage footage of airplanes while the music was inexplicably IN SCHOOL DEY NAVER TAUGHT BOUT HAMBURGAH OR STEAK, ELIJAH MUHAMMAD OR THA WELFARE STATE, AND I KNOW BECUZZA KRS-ONE
one of my senior year hs art projects was a "documentary" on hk action cinema that mostly featured pause-button edits of the goriest two-handed-gunplay sequences set to black flag and mdc songs
