idk when the ACA process started in the Senate there were like 41 GOP senators, at least 3 of whom were known as moderates, plus the party had been pummeled two election cycles in a row. It only seems dumb in retrospect that Obama thought he could get a republican few votes. One of the GOP moderates switched parties in the middle ffs.

point I didn't fully make earlier was that the prescription thing meant there was control over drug/medicine supply. That could also have some drawbacks in terms of what factors effect what gets supplied and what doesn't and how it is decided but at least there is some level of control of standards etc.
Also occurred to me that it tied in with the idea of proffessionalization as to who got to have authority over who did and didn't get to say who got supply. It's part of the ethos of being a doctor that you are in a position to allow people to take the drugs you have some control over. & if everybody could just walk into a shop so9mewhere and have everything available to them without that permission the system would have to change. probably for the worse to some degree.
Also occurred to me taht consequences of this government seemed to be that that system was being undermined to some degree.
