Electric Intercourse is on The Work, vol 1 that I have, and I'm sure on other boots.
― Dominique, Friday, 28 April 2017 15:07 (six years ago) link
yeah, but this studio version is a different version!
― tylerw, Friday, 28 April 2017 15:09 (six years ago) link
this sounds great and i'm so happy
― ToddBonzalez (BradNelson), Friday, 28 April 2017 15:16 (six years ago) link
also i'm so sad that prince is dead and i will be sad forever
Beyond psyched. I'm not gonna be able to wait the one month to get this for my birthday.
Hallway version of computer blue is gonna destroy the world.
I love that this and Tull songs from the wood are both getting gala editions this summer, two albums that are so deep in my marrow.
Eye would die 4 a prince version of g spot in good sound too, Eric, but maybe there's not a good source for it beyond the crappy circulated demo

Xpost Brad otm it will never be ok
Hearing studio version of "Electric Intercourse" is both great and confirms I'm going to be taking a lot of time to rework the The Work material in my mind to the more official versions.
― insidious assymetrical weapons (Eric H.), Friday, 28 April 2017 15:19 (six years ago) link
yeah, i've listened to that live electric intercourse a zillion times, so this is disorienting, but still SO GOOD
― tylerw, Friday, 28 April 2017 15:20 (six years ago) link
The bassline is a lot less prominent and burpy in the studio version.
― insidious assymetrical weapons (Eric H.), Friday, 28 April 2017 15:25 (six years ago) link
wow so glad these reissues really are going to be exciting!
― blonde redheads have more fun (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Friday, 28 April 2017 15:34 (six years ago) link
I was thinking how with the majority of reissues with unissued tracks they were clearly unissued for a reason, but with Prince everyone kinda knows they'll be brilliant.

ned otm
prince unreleased >>> pretty much everybody else released

Btw guys I am reading the new Alex Hahn book about princes life and music and it pretty fucking good so far (he wrote the book Possessed back in the day, which I have not read, it's pretty oop)
― gimmesomehawnz (Jon not Jon), Friday, 28 April 2017 16:21 (six years ago) link
I liked Possessed well enough -- what's the new one called?

what era is "Do Yourself a Favor"? that was my favorite vault discovery last year. also, have the 1999-era versions of "Raspberry Beret" and "I Could Never Take the Place of Your Man" ever been bootlegged?
― flappy bird, Friday, 28 April 2017 17:17 (six years ago) link
WOW, I'd spoiled myself on the intense live versions of "Electric Intercourse", I'm going to have to adjust to the studio recording but beyond happy to dive in
― bunny slopes, Friday, 28 April 2017 17:31 (six years ago) link
I think "Do Yourself a Favor" is pretty early. My iVault mp3 lists it as 1982 (same year as Moonbeam Levels/Extraloveable/Turn It Up/Purple Music) but it sounds even earlier to my ears
― bunny slopes, Friday, 28 April 2017 17:35 (six years ago) link
My favorite thing to have leaked since he died is "9 to 5 People" I think

just bumped "Computer blue (hallway, extended, whatever version)" three times…is it too much to hope that the Revolution is beginning their shows with this rendition? i'm going to Webster hall tonight with at least one other Ilxor, am stoked as fukk and wonder if anybody's been to any of the shows…
― veronica moser, Wednesday, 3 May 2017 21:09 (six years ago) link
I am so fucking envious of you going to that show
I just couldn't do it too broke
― gimmesomehawnz (Jon not Jon), Wednesday, 3 May 2017 22:15 (six years ago) link
I booked an international flight, and then right afterwards found out that the Revolution are playing there (Madison) the day after I leave. :(

http://www.billboard.com/articles/columns/pop/7784716/prince-estate-purple-rain-concert-film-documentary-streaming-services
In one of his first dealings as an advisor to the Prince estate, Spotify executive Troy Carter is helping negotiate a deal that could give one major streaming service exclusive rights to one of the late pop star’s unreleased concert films as well as rights to make a documentary about the film, sources tell Billboard....On the table is a film of Prince’s Aug. 3, 1983 performance in Minneapolis where he debuted several of the songs released on the soundtrack to his 1984 movie Purple Rain, plus additional footage that a buyer could use to produce a documentary about the making of the film, sources say. The storied show at Minneapolis’s First Avenue nightclub was a surprise gig billed as a benefit for the Minnesota Dance Theatre, with a set list that included “Let’s Go Crazy” and “Purple Rain.”

Even on shitty VHS-to-YouTube that show is pure fire
― gimmesomehawnz (Jon not Jon), Saturday, 6 May 2017 01:29 (six years ago) link
was that 83 show the one where he did "a case of you" solo?
Saw Webster H. show, and FCC and our pal said that it was Susannah onstage. Hope I'm not being an asshole when I posit that she looks under 35, not 53.
was gratifying to experience that music from folks who have the perfect right to play it…they did not do the following: "Girls and Boys" "Beautiful Ones" "Dahlin Nikki" "Pop Life" "Let's Pretend We Married" "Private Joy," shit from Dirty Mind other than "Uptown," "It's Gonna Be a Beautiful Night"…

Really know nothing of Prince outtakes at all, but Electric Intercourse and Our Destiny / Roadhouse Garden that are on Spotify are so good.

The Revolution played SF tonight -- hell of a show. Personal highlight had to be Wendy and Lisa doing "Sometimes It Snows In April" with acoustic guitar, piano and nothing more, to a totally hushed crowd. But Bobby Z, it has to be said, is a total machine.
