Wasn't U2's last album supposed to be 2 parts too?

duped and used by my worst Miss U (President Keyes), Friday, 14 April 2017 15:38 (seven years ago) link

wait a minute...
U2 is on the album.
U2 has the number 2 in this name.
Kendrick dropped 1 album today

WHERE'S NUMBER 2???

human music...I like it! (voodoo chili), Friday, 14 April 2017 15:41 (seven years ago) link

*its name, not this name

human music...I like it! (voodoo chili), Friday, 14 April 2017 15:41 (seven years ago) link

yea it is just so dumb. if he drops another that would be dope but people have immediately moved on to anticipating the next thing when the fucking album dropped TODAY

marcos, Friday, 14 April 2017 15:50 (seven years ago) link

currently on LUST. and am digging this a lot

although, surprisingly, I'm not sure I'm digging it enough to knock Drab Majesty out of its current "must play once a day" spot in my routine

Rachel Luther Queen (DJP), Friday, 14 April 2017 15:51 (seven years ago) link

(Of course, what this means is by the end of the day I will be proclaiming this the best album ever recorded and listing every track as my favorite.)

Rachel Luther Queen (DJP), Friday, 14 April 2017 15:53 (seven years ago) link

ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmm holy shit @ XXX (I have not gotten to the Bono part yet)

Rachel Luther Queen (DJP), Friday, 14 April 2017 15:56 (seven years ago) link

Yeah, I'm still into it even after Bono's entrance, ppl like hating I guess

Rachel Luther Queen (DJP), Friday, 14 April 2017 15:58 (seven years ago) link

Bono's appearance is pretty good! His persona has subsumed his music for so long that people forget that he actually has a really cool sounding voice. It helps that he's the most subdued he's been in decades.

human music...I like it! (voodoo chili), Friday, 14 April 2017 16:24 (seven years ago) link

this is a fine record, looking forward to ignoring all the whig history people will be spouting over the next few weeks, Bono kinda doesn't even sound like Bono good work tick tick tick

Raul Chamgerlain (Noodle Vague), Friday, 14 April 2017 16:25 (seven years ago) link

i didn't even notice Bono when I listened to this last night

flappy bird, Friday, 14 April 2017 16:52 (seven years ago) link

yeah me neither. success!

Οὖτις, Friday, 14 April 2017 16:57 (seven years ago) link

I'll spare you the track-by-track review my 12-year-son and I posted on FB, but here's the sum-up:

Dad: If GKMC was the launch and TPAB the triple backflip with a twist, DAMN. is the well-stuck landing. With a few logy exceptions, it’s terse, focused and fierce. He’s as good as he thinks he is, and where he has weaknesses, he knows those, too. 8/10

Zoller: A good album it has its weak points yes but when the good tracks come in you are in for a treat. If you could get past the weak tracks, I would recommend the album for you. 8/10

(Tracks we both awarded 8/10 or better: DNA, ELEMENT, FEEL, PRIDE, HUMBLE, LOVE)

U2 lay back and did what they had to do, not really worth talking about tbh

this is a really good spring for new music

Uhura Mazda (lukas), Friday, 14 April 2017 17:56 (seven years ago) link

Let's not talk about that. Let's talk about this album.

It bangs. I am falling in love with it. I want to play DNA. 800 times in a row.

Rachel Luther Queen (DJP), Friday, 14 April 2017 18:43 (seven years ago) link

lol the same thing happened with Radiohead last year

flappy bird, Friday, 14 April 2017 18:48 (seven years ago) link

Yah, Feel, LOYALTY. Lust, Love, so many highs on this and I haven't even made it to the end!

JacobSanders, Friday, 14 April 2017 18:48 (seven years ago) link

HEY YOU KNOW WHAT BE EVEN COOLER THAN A NEW KENDRICK LAMAR ALBUM??? TWO ALBUMS!!!! HAAA!!! A MORPHEUS MEME!!!

marcos, Friday, 14 April 2017 18:50 (seven years ago) link

The beat in the middle section of XXX is amazing. Holy shit. The only bad thing about the U2 collaboration is that it interrupts this beat and that's a minor miracle. Good Friday, indeed.

Fetchboy, Friday, 14 April 2017 18:53 (seven years ago) link

Fear/God/Duckworth is some of Kendrick's best storytelling.

Duckworth is definitely a highlight and a crazy story if true (which it prob isn't)

i love the sound of the sexy line on ELEMENT.

I'd love to see a rundown of all the Drake jabs on this album.

Crazy Eddie & Jesus the Kid (Raymond Cummings), Friday, 14 April 2017 19:39 (seven years ago) link

I'm on my third listen already and it's getting better with each listen. Also, marcos OTM, people have been waiting quite a while for this album to come out, so I'd rather see discussion about it without it being hijacked by some idiot hipster Pitchforkian psuedo-Radiohead-fanboy conspiracy theory rumour mill bullshit.

This album rules.

I'd love to see a rundown of all the Drake jabs on this album.

someone will have to point these out to me, since I remain blissfully oblivious to the nuances of Drake's output

Οὖτις, Friday, 14 April 2017 19:58 (seven years ago) link

cover art suits the album. no frills just good rap

marcos, Friday, 14 April 2017 19:58 (seven years ago) link

Slate has an article that Damn is "Finally available" today. Yes, this album we found out about a few weeks ago by an artist with two releases in the past two years is probably the new Chinese Democracy.

my friend over gchat today: "Lighting ones head on fire is the only reasonable response to this beat"

royce jung (slothroprhymes), Friday, 14 April 2017 21:49 (seven years ago) link

cant remember if that was about DNA or HUMBLE but either way it was in praise of mike will made it, and it is correct

slate is bad

this album is great

i enjoy listening to it more than TPAB i would not necessarily say that means "better" but w/e

royce jung (slothroprhymes), Friday, 14 April 2017 21:51 (seven years ago) link

I know it's a lyrically dark album, but some of these beats ("Feel," "Pride," "Duckworth" "God," the end of "XXX") give me such a warm, fuzzy feeling. It's like he stretched out "Momma" from TPAB and made it into a whole album.

human music...I like it! (voodoo chili), Friday, 14 April 2017 22:39 (seven years ago) link

Obviously, on the flipside, he's got beats like DNA, Humble, Element, that are impossibly hard.

I'm gonna enjoy living inside this album for the next few days.

human music...I like it! (voodoo chili), Friday, 14 April 2017 22:39 (seven years ago) link

I love that this album is tighter and seemingly simpler but still has a solid conceptual framework. best of both worlds.

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Friday, 14 April 2017 23:20 (seven years ago) link

Album is spectacular. Also, I like Humble about 300x more than I originally did, and I liked it initially anyway.

Ⓓⓡ. (Johnny Fever), Friday, 14 April 2017 23:30 (seven years ago) link

Not as obviously dazzling as TPAB, but I appreciate the stripped down beats and greater focus on his raps.

Moodles, Friday, 14 April 2017 23:31 (seven years ago) link

Agreed. And Humble makes so much more sense to me, both sonical and the lyrics, in the context of the album. Booming album. Couldn't have wished for more tbh.

On Some Faraday Beach (Le Bateau Ivre), Friday, 14 April 2017 23:32 (seven years ago) link

Kendrick totally neutralizes Annoying Bono, and makes it work. No small feat.

seriously. I will never doubt k-dot again
