Seiho - Un/Real

especially "Inmost."

Is there a Spotify playlist for this thread this year or did forks get sued?

_Rudipherous_, Thursday, 30 March 2017 15:40 (seven years ago) link

Actually it's just UNREAL, no slash. Slash on the cover confused me.

I only just started listening to that Saagara album, it is top notch. I was aware of Zimpel and like his stuff, but didn't realise he had a project with an Indian orchestra.

Specially liking yours JF:.. heavy on the outsider pop and r&b... Where do you find all those songs in the first place? Most of these are very off radar for me but have great production.

Lots of going back and getting up to speed on new tracks from artists I've liked in previous years, plus a fair amount of rabbit holing on Spotify itself. I wish I still had time to scour blogs, but a) I don't and b) so many blogs are just dumping grounds for free PR mp3s or soundcloud links now.

Oh, and also soundcloud. Rabbit holing on there is usually productive.

I'm enjoying H. Hawkline's new song.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lrqphXJZqS8

He's like a poppier, more high-strung Cate Le Bon, which makes sense since she plays on all his albums and he plays on all her albums (and they play in each other's live bands).

Young Marco's compilation on his own Safe Trip label, Welcome To Paradise (Italian Dream House 89-93) is highly recommended. The vinyl's long sold out (although is getting reissued I think) but you can get both volumes digitally for just £8 on Amazon

Yeah, I just listened to this ^ over the weekend and it's fantastic. More "streamlined" I guess than her older stuff, but more in my wheelhouse.

two weeks pass...

I'm about to dive headfirst into a bunch of albums that I've been neglecting due to a stressful couple of months (Kendrick, Betty Who, New Pornographers, Mountain Goats), but since I haven't done one of these since the end of January, here are some tracks that I've been collecting since then:

MUNA - Around You
Bill & Joel Plaskett - Solidarity
Aimee Mann - Stuck in the Past
Aimee Mann - Lies of Summer
Charly Bliss - Glitter
Waxahatchee - Silver
Bright Light Bright Light - Stay (I Missed You)
HAIM - Want You Back

My faves up to now:

Aimee Mann - Mental Illness (return to form)
Girl Ray - Trouble (those harmonies, song of the year up till now)
Hauschka - What If (exciting piano music in between classic, jazz and ambient)
Joan Shelley - s/t (calm, understated, glowing)
Juana Molina - Halo (twisted is the word that comes to mind to describe this music)
The New Year - Snow (perfect chillout album)
Pumarosa - The Witch (London indie rock that kicks ass)
Tinariwen - Elwan (nicely meandering Sahara blues)

Ich bin kein Berliner (alex in mainhattan), Tuesday, 20 June 2017 13:31 (six years ago) link

Tarantula Wallpaper, Dracula Screensaver is the debut album from Danish band Starcrash and I am loving it - it's kinda classic rock/power pop with indie sensibilities, I'm thinking fans of Teenage Fanclub and perhaps Flaming Lips will be into it. Unfortunately I can't find much info about the band and I haven't read a single review of the record. But so far it's one of my 2017 faves.

Feel like posting it a rolling genre thread, but not sure where it would fit.
