calzino, Sunday, 26 March 2017 00:47 (seven years ago) link

Evostik Southern, currently being won by Chippenham but also featuring Leamington, Hitchin, Frome and Merthyr (which if Cinderford go down will be our derby match. In another country. Unless Worcester get relegated.)

Mud... Jam... Failure... (aldo), Sunday, 26 March 2017 10:16 (seven years ago) link

hey i support leamington too :)
good luck next season!

nxd, Monday, 27 March 2017 09:26 (seven years ago) link

I say Southern, it might be Northern yet as it all depends on the sides that come down from Conference North/South and their effect on the two Evostik prems. Plus last year there was a court case by Cinderford because they didn't want to go up (they claimed it was because they couldn't afford the travel, far more likely just upset they were going to miss the Hereford payday as we'd swap between leagues at the same time - which is exactly what it looks like will happen. For context why that might be the case, Bishops Cleeve took more money on the day we were there than in the entire 12 months previously.)

Just reflecting on how bizarre Saturday actually was. Salisbury had acted, in all honesty, a bit like dicks in the lead up. We had a minor altercation and three neds on the pitch away at Didcot a few weeks ago, and some Plymouth fans tried to cause trouble (with no effect) at Bideford the week after. Salisbury told the police there were riots at our home games and cited the erroneous Mirror and BBC reports which said there were 100 on the pitch in a mass brawl at Didcot, then tried to stiff us for the entire policing bill at their ground. They then sold only to our season ticket holders and wouldn't let us do a fully traceable sales package. There was a half-hearted attempt at suggesting an overall ban, which got scaled back to "don't spend a penny in the ground". (Which was actually very well observed, I only saw one person eating chips and two with a hot drink all afternoon and piles of food to be thrown out on the burger van - who presumably hadn't been told by the club about the boycott.)

Anyway, in the end we won and the other results were going our way. This is where we begin to give Salisbury and their stewards lots of credit. The home fans all go home, but there are 10 minutes added on at Evesham who are 1-0 up and need to win for us to win the league. The players are all standing about the D and EVERYBODY is watching Twitter because of course we are all following Evesham and Taunton. With 8 minutes over played, Taunton get a free kick on the edge of the box. Some people think about going home. The keeper claws it away to the left back, who hoofs it up the pitch and Evesham score a second on the break. We could maybe start celebrating but many a slip etc... it takes about another 5 minutes before the ref blows up there. SCENES at Salisbury. Then the stewards, whose biggest worry had been a pitch invasion, decide to open the gates and let us on to celebrate with the team. And bless them, it was about half an hour before they asked us whether we had homes to go to. So fair play to them, they could have just sent us packing at the first opportunity.

Still feels a bit surreal, consecutive promotions. It'll settle in eventually.

that explains the bit I read about probably Evostik Southern. wasn't sure if that meant promotion wasn't a formality.

level-headed stewarding is always a bit surreal tbh

Congrats to you, commisserations for Calzino :-/

I'd say fair play to Albion for the smash + grab, but the incessant time-wasting and gamesmanship from the off doesn't earn them any respect. He said whilst the grapes were not tasting even remotely sour, of course!

inventing a new rule seems like it might be up there with inventing a foul on the keeper to deny us our first win over our closest rivals for twenty years, guess we'll have to see if nukey win anyway

fucking scruffy game, but some nicely worked goals from Kachunga and Moyes, wont get too excited - this is an A Irvine side! And Wells!

almost drunkenly greeting over the standing ovation for Hogg (who had a suspected broken neck 2 weeks ago). But it's probably all a load of bollocks really!

the corporate DoF twonk who has left our club for Norwich might need to work out how to get rid of a new role for Cameron Jerome

Shteeve is hovering about like a bad odour at the moment, if this is going to be price of success I'll take the mid-table or hell, even L1 back.

sympathy for Cov's current travails is an unspoken given

now let me moan about my billionaire owners and multi-million pound squad in peace

Raul Chamgerlain (Noodle Vague), Thursday, 6 April 2017 09:34 (seven years ago) link

My fave ever season was the one in League 2 and we had shitloads of troubles. We had just come out of administration and went into pre-season with a squad of 6 players on the books, some of whom wages were still owed to. We had a new shitheel owner who was shafting us so his Giants could get the stadium rent-free. Probably not as dire as Coventry's current stadium situation, but still from such inauspicious beginnings was a great promotion via the playoffs season which included 5-0 + 6-2 away defeats which I travelled to both of!

calzino, Thursday, 6 April 2017 10:21 (seven years ago) link

i'm actually quite excited for next season
in sadder news, yakubu has unfortunately left the club :(

On Some Faraday Beach (Le Bateau Ivre), Thursday, 6 April 2017 11:01 (seven years ago) link

I was on the way home from a lesson in Harrow and went through Wembley Park as the game was in injury time. A few Coventry fans with young kids got on having left early. Imagine having to leave before the final whistle of the one moment of glory inside the last idk twenty years

Goddamn I wish I'd gone today, I love late drama. But those 20k crowds are totally autism unfriendly at the moment. I'm hankering for the days when we had banks of empty seats and a totally shite squad and manager!

quite stoked for Joshua v Klitschko tbh

Raul Chamgerlain (Noodle Vague), Friday, 14 April 2017 16:49 (seven years ago) link

Brighton looked so flaky and like they were going to choke a few weeks back, WTF! they are almost champions now!

calzino, Friday, 14 April 2017 17:00 (seven years ago) link

we'll do one of our second half comebacks and they'll go on a losing streak for the rest of the month

nah, not really

Raul Chamgerlain (Noodle Vague), Friday, 14 April 2017 17:01 (seven years ago) link

If Leeds do us a favour tonight I might actually foolishly think automatic will be on again. If we are in the playoffs, completely avoiding Wednesday Forestieri will be our only chance of progressing.

calzino, Friday, 14 April 2017 17:11 (seven years ago) link

Andy Lonergan is fucking shit

Raul Chamgerlain (Noodle Vague), Friday, 14 April 2017 17:41 (seven years ago) link

Leeds look absolute garbage tonight from what I've seen, it's a miracle it is still 0-0.

hah! literally the second I posted!

calzino, Friday, 14 April 2017 20:10 (seven years ago) link
