the late great, Friday, 24 March 2017 16:56 (seven years ago) link

i really think if he didn't have a stupid name he'd be getting a lot more attention

the late great, Friday, 24 March 2017 16:58 (seven years ago) link

I liked it, and all the stuff on that label was pretty good: https://open.spotify.com/user/djisbister/playlist/1ZmP6DSReSoEJ2JlSDExQG

I think the music sounds like an episode of Stranger Things

saer, Friday, 24 March 2017 18:24 (seven years ago) link

yes they have that washed out vhs aesthetic

the late great, Friday, 24 March 2017 18:41 (seven years ago) link

It also sounds like when you are waiting for a bus near a bowling alley and there is some music inside.

saer, Friday, 24 March 2017 19:04 (seven years ago) link

I'm really looking forward to this Kelly Lee Owens, I loved her EP from last year

I think I'm gonna need some strong persuasion to listen to Ross From Friends given that every time I am drunk with a keyboard in my reach that is exactly what people compare me to

boxedjoy, Friday, 24 March 2017 19:10 (seven years ago) link

xpost one of my most transcendent music experiences as a young adult was in 1995 (i think ?) walking past a club with friends just after midnight and hearing basement jaxx's "flylife" come pounding through the walls

the late great, Friday, 24 March 2017 19:17 (seven years ago) link

I like that muffled filtered sound a lot

the late great, Friday, 24 March 2017 19:21 (seven years ago) link

before getting into his current jazzy percussive phase kyle hall was doing some cool filtered disco edit stuff ("down", "crushed", "measure 2 measure", etc) and this stuff reminds me of a less hiccupy, more heavily filtered version of that sound

the late great, Friday, 24 March 2017 19:23 (seven years ago) link

That one is not available in my country!

saer, Friday, 24 March 2017 19:42 (seven years ago) link

I've never really clicked with Jay Bliss but I've grown to like this track off the new album, has a 2pm at Fabric kind of feel where you're not sure which direction things are going to go in next

saer, Friday, 24 March 2017 19:53 (seven years ago) link

saer the track is "empty" by hysterics (aka girl unit)

the late great, Friday, 24 March 2017 20:30 (seven years ago) link

ross from friends is good

bomb diggy diggy diggy bomb diggy bomb (jim in vancouver), Friday, 24 March 2017 20:30 (seven years ago) link

The Kelly Lee Owens is excellent, desserves its own thread for sure

Carlotta's Portrait (Ross), Friday, 24 March 2017 21:22 (seven years ago) link

I really like the new Ross From Friends.

pretty cool little video on Karlos Moran here https://vimeo.com/65041085

I quite like his ep and he seems like a nice kid https://soundcloud.com/klasserecordings/mmg001-karlos-moran

mickcsmith (micarl), Saturday, 25 March 2017 08:36 (seven years ago) link

That new Karlos Moran EP is good not just as functional tools but as an immersive listen, touches on lots of different strands in dance music but feels totally unified.

The new Harvey Sutherland EP is basically a fake Metro Area mini-album in the best possible way.

boxedjoy, Saturday, 25 March 2017 14:33 (seven years ago) link

this is corny but I like it

the late great, Sunday, 26 March 2017 01:45 (seven years ago) link

just bought this one, the sub is pretty great on it

the late great, Sunday, 26 March 2017 01:50 (seven years ago) link

if you play the he men track at the wrong speed it turns into a cool cosmic groover

the late great, Sunday, 26 March 2017 01:55 (seven years ago) link

conversely the interplanetary criminals track turns makes a great juke track pitched up

the late great, Sunday, 26 March 2017 01:57 (seven years ago) link

give it a try on 1.25x (which is a pretty good approximation of 33 → 45 -8)

the late great, Sunday, 26 March 2017 02:04 (seven years ago) link

That Interplanetary Criminal EP is the shit.

yesca, Sunday, 26 March 2017 02:27 (seven years ago) link

Marco Passarani with a nice sunny day house track

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yg9nVX3jrWw

Objekt with some breakbeat techno. Probably the most commercial thing he's done so far

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iaRNvwrlIdE

Big room house track from Denis Sulta. This has been out for a couple of months now but I don't think anyone's posted it in here

hardwax

the late great, Monday, 27 March 2017 20:13 (seven years ago) link

despite being sometimes too verbose for my taste, hardwax reviews are still the best

The guy that used to write for the Chronicle would always tip me off to new records but the paper cut his budget so I just wing it now

very good hardwax take on 24 k magic:

Effective cut-up funk and electro floor-filler.

The times they are a changing, perhaps (map), Monday, 27 March 2017 21:35 (seven years ago) link

it seems somewhat unnatural when there's product info in the review, kind of disjoint:

Stunning 2nd chapter of AC travels into puristic, tonal sound synthesis - Highly Recommended! (comes w/ download code)

The new Module Werk record is great, particularly the first track, very assured for a new artist

"Tell us a little about what its like to work with the Hippie Dance crew." is a pretty weird question to ask Superpitcher

This is good

I'm not sure where to put this, a short mix of artist-only selections from a new artist, Neksha. Only one release so far with dj spider which was ok this stuff a lot better

https://soundcloud.com/spinning-plates-records/nekhsa-spinning-plates-mix-vol-1

Hopefully some of this comes out later this year

saer, Sunday, 2 April 2017 07:40 (seven years ago) link

It would help if i got their name right!

Nekhsa
