first track on the new Rozaaay (f R Saadiq) is so pretty

Mastermind, Black Market and this new one really live up to the hype on Ross's production imo. Kinda reminds me of that 2014 Jeezy album that had a bunch of gorgeous soul beats, really like the suspended vocal sample on "Santorini Greece" in particular.
Dude has the worst "hyped up" voice in the game tho. He doesn't use it much but it's on one of the tracks here. Same one he used a bit on "Free Mason" off Teflon Don

this was produced by a kid named chad thomas, who is going into his senior year as a football player at univ of miami. he started at defensive end last season. he & ross have made some music before but that beat was way more accomplished and soulful than i would have expected.

deej, I noticed you were complaining on twitter about songs that are only available for streaming and asking about how djs cope with this development. The answer, I think, is that mp3 dj pools are going to become even more important to most djs as the sale of mp3s steadily declines. My main issue with the dj pools is that they're quite expensive - at least as long as you can't actually find everything you need on there anyway. I tend to spend about $ 20 a month on afro/london/dancehall stuff anyway and subscribing to get big sean mp3s on top of that for an additional $ 20-30 a month sucks. I can send you Living Single though. They have it on digiwaxx, which is free as long as you give it a quick review before you dl it.

dope plz send. Yeah I had a dj pool sub but it kept me up on shit i didnt care about & mostly missed all the stuff i want...like do any dj pools have the new carti/uzi "woke up" record? i bet they dont, but they do have (as does amazon) the song that they pushed as a single first.

it's running out of puff now finally but lowkey one of the biggest music stories of 17 is popcaan's version of the roy woods tune becoming surely the most successful one minute twelve second tagged unmastered demo leak mp3 ever. pure culture; ppl rinsed it, djs rinsed it (the soundcloud loops it once over, the join is rough, no one cares), perfect daydream ephemera infatuation spring jam form & function

devastated was really weak attempt at riding current fads nagl for him at all 1) cuz he wasn't any good at it and 2) it seemed weird to switch lanes when he'd somehow actually had some commercial success w/boom bap throwback. new song w/schoolboy is nice cuz it feels a little bit less like duck down/black moon cosplay and modern but still nyc rappity rappin

still kinda baffled at how the sonics of late 70s/early 80s dentist office jazz have become so popular w rap producers, these washes of synths w no attack and burbling fender rhodes chord clusters that float around with occasional horn stabs or sax riffs swimming along. I don't dislike it but it did seem like an odd sonic backdrop for like the first half-dozen songs on the album w their angrier/despairing sociopolitical-commentary rhymes. Feel like things start to pick up and cohere around the midway point w Y Don't You Love Me (lol @ "If I Was Your Girlfriend quote, also lol @ Sun Ra dialogue sample in the opening track for that matter), and then Rockabye Baby and Ring the Alarm really pull things together.
