Is that video silent for anyone else? I tried other videos and they work fine, but that one has no sound even when I view it on yt itself.

I listened to the Akhlys record when it came out a couple of times and wasn't too fussed about it myself so I might not hit on exactly what you're looking for; also I can't embed stuff from yt myself these days (don't now why) so if you like you'll have to look these up on youtube/bandcamp etc I'm afraid.

Awe - Providentia reminds me of the above in the way that it's a smoother, less frantic Deathspell Omega

Enmerkar - Starlit Passage is an obscure little EP but the guitar sound is very dense and has a great amount of atmosphere

Blut Aus Nord's Memoria Vetusta series is a lot different to the industrial stuff he usually puts out these days, there's three of them so far (with a fourth coming out this year)

NYCNative I never liked BaN until I heard his more straight bm stuff; stuff like Mort etc I find pretty boring so you're not alone in your indifference

The Dreaming I is a very special album imo. You might try this though

A lot of people love Blut aus Nord but I have found myself to be only lukewarm to the band. Since I am in the minority, you will likely find something of value from the band.

BAN's recent Memoria Vetusta III is atmospheric but rather dull, imo. MVII, however, from 2009, is sublime.

I didn't respond when I first saw this thread, because it's hard to know where to start. Seems like at least half the metal out there these days strives for the "atmospheric". Black metal as a genre, reaching back to Det som engang var and A Blaze in the Northern Sky. All the contemporary death metal bands inspired by Incantation, Immolation, Demilich, and poorly-recorded OSDM. Metalgaze & doom & post-metal & heavy noise, etc. So many atmospheres...

I heard this for the first time about a month ago, quickly became a favorite:

three years pass...

does anybody listen to Awenden? atmospheric naturist black metal.

if you like stuff like WITTR it might be up your alley. not EXACTLY like that, it does have some brutish riffs and it's a one person project, the vocals are very gutteral too.

it goes from pretty to overcast pretty fast.
