Well bissogled trotters (Michael B), Sunday, 12 March 2017 01:53 (seven years ago) link

I wish I liked the Thundercat album more, but so much of it is just goofy shit.

I kinda love the goofy bits beacuse its amongst some very strong songs

Laura Marling - Semper Femina

_Rudipherous_, Sunday, 12 March 2017 02:50 (seven years ago) link

^
I'm liking this so far. It's nice that she keeps taking her music in new directionsite. More polished and jazzy than Short Movie.

I really like it. The video for "Soothing" is a bit er, um.

I'm really loving Tennis - Yours Conditionally. Perfect for Sunday.

dance cum rituals (Moka), Sunday, 12 March 2017 23:04 (seven years ago) link

Still warming up to "Semper Femina" - "Don't Pass Me By" is a great track.

Carlotta's Portrait (Ross), Sunday, 12 March 2017 23:14 (seven years ago) link

A couple days ago I thought I wasn't even going to be able to get through the album (LM is pretty outside my usual) but then I came back to it the next day with Wild Once, which really clicked; then came back around and listened to the whole thing.

_Rudipherous_, Monday, 13 March 2017 02:47 (seven years ago) link

Yeah it's outside my usual as well Rudipherous, tbh I like songs like "Soothing" and "Gurdijeff's Daughter" more than the other ones I've heard, which probably makes it clear I'm not familiar with her.

Carlotta's Portrait (Ross), Monday, 13 March 2017 02:50 (seven years ago) link

"Gurdjieff's Daughter" is my favorite song of hers. Maybe it is Laura Marling for people who aren't into Laura Marling. I've always wanted to like her though. She always seemed really solid, just making types of music I don't listen to much.

_Rudipherous_, Monday, 13 March 2017 03:05 (seven years ago) link

"Gurdijeff's daughter" is like a really solid Pretenders homage IMO

Carlotta's Portrait (Ross), Monday, 13 March 2017 03:08 (seven years ago) link

"Gurdjieff" definitely one of her catchier tunes. It's not my favorite on "Short Movie" any more though. That honor would go to the lovely "Easy". Of the three albums I have by her, they all have there fair share of keepers.

o. nate, Monday, 13 March 2017 03:30 (seven years ago) link

Mordy mentioned them upthread but the Sacred Paws album is great in an 'Electrelane play Vampire Weekend' kind of way. I really like the final track 'Getting Old'

Lennon, Elvis, Hendrix etc (dog latin), Sunday, 26 March 2017 22:43 (seven years ago) link

Out of curiosity, how much overlap is there between the Linda Catlin Smith and Charli XCX crowds?

pomenitul, Sunday, 26 March 2017 23:08 (seven years ago) link

EP:

Seiho - Un/Real

especially "Inmost."

Is there a Spotify playlist for this thread this year or did forks get sued?

_Rudipherous_, Thursday, 30 March 2017 15:40 (seven years ago) link

Actually it's just UNREAL, no slash. Slash on the cover confused me.

_Rudipherous_, Thursday, 30 March 2017 15:44 (seven years ago) link

confused himself I bet

Choco Blavatsky (seandalai), Thursday, 30 March 2017 20:32 (seven years ago) link

The recent Linda Catlin Smith album on Another Timbre is frikkin' gorgeous.

I only just started listening to that Saagara album, it is top notch. I was aware of Zimpel and like his stuff, but didn't realise he had a project with an Indian orchestra.

Oh those two are excellent! A couple of brilliant tracks I had missed.

Specially liking yours JF:.. heavy on the outsider pop and r&b... Where do you find all those songs in the first place? Most of these are very off radar for me but have great production.

Lots of going back and getting up to speed on new tracks from artists I've liked in previous years, plus a fair amount of rabbit holing on Spotify itself. I wish I still had time to scour blogs, but a) I don't and b) so many blogs are just dumping grounds for free PR mp3s or soundcloud links now.

Oh, and also soundcloud. Rabbit holing on there is usually productive.

Megumi Hayashibara/Shiina Ringo - Imawa no Shinigami

_Rudipherous_, Monday, 17 April 2017 04:42 (seven years ago) link

I'm enjoying H. Hawkline's new song.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lrqphXJZqS8

He's like a poppier, more high-strung Cate Le Bon, which makes sense since she plays on all his albums and he plays on all her albums (and they play in each other's live bands).

Young Marco's compilation on his own Safe Trip label, Welcome To Paradise (Italian Dream House 89-93) is highly recommended. The vinyl's long sold out (although is getting reissued I think) but you can get both volumes digitally for just £8 on Amazon
