106. Driver Friendly - Bury a Dream (100 3 0)
this was my most enthusiastic vote for a contemporary emo album

I still listen to Shiner sometimes, didn't know anyone else had even heard of them.

What do you mean "not that Shiner"?

Tough one, it's either Driver Friendly, Hotelier or Saves the Day.

Jeff Rosenstock was super high on my ballot and it was heartbreaking to see him JUST miss the cut on a second poll, so that

Full Collapse though I have a real soft spot for Seaweed.

The Locust
― My Body's Made of Crushed Little Evening Stars (Sund4r), Sunday, 12 March 2017 04:17 (seven years ago) link
I will never understand how The Locust fits in at all.

Ha, I originally typed "The Locust because fuck you" before thinking better of it. Seriously, I totally defer to your emo knowledge but wouldn't they fit in under "post-hardcore"? Pearson was in Swing Kids, who are definitely considered emo/screamo, I think?
― My Body's Made of Crushed Little Evening Stars (Sund4r), Sunday, 12 March 2017 13:16 (seven years ago) link
Not that the latter point proves anything in itself but the Locust seem to me like something of an extension of the style of Swing Kids, Angel Hair, etc.

Haha, so cool to see that the emo poll has already produced two spinoff threads. We just can't seem to leave it alone :)
Mordy, maybe that tracks poll isn't such a bad idea anyway...
― ArchCarrier, Sunday, 12 March 2017 14:00 (seven years ago) link
I think it's more of a tracks genre tbh.

I disagree unless you mean the mall emo stuff
― Odysseus, Sunday, 12 March 2017 14:40 (seven years ago) link
No, the 'mall' bands WERE album-oriented, even concept album-oriented sometimes! The old 90s post-hardcore/screamo/vegan potluck bands were all about 7"s though.
― My Body's Made of Crushed Little Evening Stars (Sund4r), Sunday, 12 March 2017 14:44 (seven years ago) link
true diy 7"s
― Odysseus, Sunday, 12 March 2017 14:49 (seven years ago) link
I voted for My Chemical Romance bc srsly wtf
YOU GUYS
― Yoni Loves Chocha (VegemiteGrrl), Sunday, 12 March 2017 14:50 (seven years ago) link
That Karate album is great and way underrated and Geoff Farina doesn't get enough credit for his guitar playing
I say this as someone who owns this one Karate album, one 7" and a split with Crownhate Ruin
but Karate definitely
― Wimmels, Sunday, 12 March 2017 15:13 (seven years ago) link
I didnt like later Karate stuff at all

Not the circumstances under which I wanted to give The Moon Is Down two #1 votes but ok.
