one of the starkest and most stressful rock albums ever, no relief or release at all (or when it comes it feels mocking)

You're really selling it Simon!

cajunsunday, Friday, 10 March 2017 14:16 (seven years ago) link

I mean, it also rocks and has riffs and stuff

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Friday, 10 March 2017 14:18 (seven years ago) link

lol just realised we still have meadowlands coming up

devvvine, Friday, 10 March 2017 14:20 (seven years ago) link

gr8080, Friday, 10 March 2017 14:38 (seven years ago) link

oh whoops forgot that one lol

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Friday, 10 March 2017 14:39 (seven years ago) link

this album comes so close to being too clever for its own good so many times but just barely stays course

gr8080, Friday, 10 March 2017 14:41 (seven years ago) link

also this post-reunion braid track would be high on my tracks ballot https://youtu.be/BF4r32HxhFs

gr8080, Friday, 10 March 2017 14:42 (seven years ago) link

Don't sleep on No Coast either

gr8080, Friday, 10 March 2017 14:43 (seven years ago) link

Oh now this is too low

tt played me about two songs off this and I put it in my top 5 I think?

an uptempo Pop/Hip Hop mentality (imago), Friday, 10 March 2017 14:49 (seven years ago) link

I voted for the fugazi but had to cut the Braid album from my longlist as I hadnt heard it in years

Odysseus, Friday, 10 March 2017 14:55 (seven years ago) link

it will sound better than you remember

gr8080, Friday, 10 March 2017 14:57 (seven years ago) link

haven't been able to stop listening to lp2. goldsmith's ghost notes on "iscarabraid" are incredible, i don't think i ever noticed them before. can u believe dave grohl recorded over all of goldsmith's drum tracks for the colour and the shape? (i can but what a shame)

the raindrops and drop tops of lived, earned experience (BradNelson), Friday, 10 March 2017 15:03 (seven years ago) link

It's going to be fun when 4 None Blondes top this poll

Odysseus, Friday, 10 March 2017 15:34 (seven years ago) link

well yknow you can't spell "4 non blondes" without...oh actually nevermind

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Friday, 10 March 2017 15:49 (seven years ago) link

can't stand bright eyes but this record is indisputable

devvvine, Friday, 10 March 2017 15:49 (seven years ago) link

Listening to Braid again for the 1st time in years and it really should have been on my ballot.

Odysseus, Friday, 10 March 2017 15:50 (seven years ago) link

This is also great and also went straight into my ballot after a couple of songs

an uptempo Pop/Hip Hop mentality (imago), Friday, 10 March 2017 15:50 (seven years ago) link

this album proves that oberst is emo cause the only way you wouldn't make a bunch more records like this was if you hated fun

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Friday, 10 March 2017 15:50 (seven years ago) link

I thought Desaparecidos would be top 10. Great album.

Odysseus, Friday, 10 March 2017 15:50 (seven years ago) link

This was my number one!!

cajunsunday, Friday, 10 March 2017 15:51 (seven years ago) link

the perfect situation for conor oberst's voice is extremely loud electric guitars, which is why bright eyes records always sound like gross miscalculations to me

the raindrops and drop tops of lived, earned experience (BradNelson), Friday, 10 March 2017 15:53 (seven years ago) link

haven't heard any of the last three.

Lebro v. Wade (Spottie), Friday, 10 March 2017 15:54 (seven years ago) link

gr8080, Friday, 10 March 2017 15:55 (seven years ago) link

He wanted to move away from the sound of Commander Venus

Odysseus, Friday, 10 March 2017 16:00 (seven years ago) link

lol I forgot how ridiculous the "candid" "man on the street" clips on this album are <3 <3 <3

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Friday, 10 March 2017 16:01 (seven years ago) link

hate bright eyes so much that I've never listened to this despite all of the praise. need to finally break down and check it out.

cwkiii, Friday, 10 March 2017 16:01 (seven years ago) link

to reiterate brad's earlier point I'm extremely stoked that this soundly defeated all the bright eyes albums

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Friday, 10 March 2017 16:04 (seven years ago) link

I love that the b-sides flow into each other with a segue, classic rare advanced wanker move

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Friday, 10 March 2017 16:05 (seven years ago) link

Someone had nominated this album as Read Music/SpeakEnglish, and it almost ended up that way in the rollout, if only just one person out of nine hadn't corrected it :)

ArchCarrier, Friday, 10 March 2017 16:11 (seven years ago) link

I had no idea Billy Milano was an ilxor

Odysseus, Friday, 10 March 2017 16:14 (seven years ago) link

xpost Yeah I noticed that when voting - I couldn't very well put the wrong title for my number one. It deserved better!

cajunsunday, Friday, 10 March 2017 16:18 (seven years ago) link

I'm not sure if anyone has linked to this masterpiece of experimental criticism yet:

ArchCarrier, Friday, 10 March 2017 16:22 (seven years ago) link

lol I did earlier, though there's plenty more where that came from

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Friday, 10 March 2017 16:23 (seven years ago) link

this album was so good it transcended my teen pitchfork-reader bias

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Friday, 10 March 2017 16:23 (seven years ago) link

OK, I wasn't sure, and too lazy to check.

This is a great album btw. Hadn't heard it before.
